Installing (Hardwire) a Nextbase Dash Cam - Nissan Qashqai J12

This is an install (Hardwiring) of the Nextbase 422GW Dash Cam to my J12 Nissan Qashqai 2023 plate.
The install took just over an hour to complete.

Literally took me a few minutes after seeing your video! I used the upper dash beam bolt as the earth rather than add any in. It does require a Micro 2 Fuse tap which wasn’t part of my hardwire kit but are readily available elsewhere. The nextbase tool is also very good for tucking the usb cable up into the headlining across the screen and also tucking into the plastic trim where the rearview mirror is. Very pleased. @@CarGuyUK saved £50 on fitting from Halfords so definitely worth it. Yes it was my Wife’s new Qashqai.

Hi buddy I ended up hardwiring my next base instead of running a usb cable. It was an absolute doddle to do. I was a bit worried about removing the A pillar trim but it was so easy to do. The only thing I found a bit fiddly was fitting the fuse tap. I ended up using one of the wife’s pocket make up mirrors.😂. You saved me £50-£70 going to Hellfords for them to instal it. Thanks Again. Nice one. I am all about saving money and tend to watch lots of KZbin videos on how to do things if I think it will save time and money so glad it worked out for you. Fuse box is fiddly, never know why they don’t make them more accessible.

The trim pops off quite easily. It’s like plastic and has clips that help it pop back into place. That’s the bit I was worried about the most but once I took it off I knew it was going to be ok. Let me know what you do, if you try it or get someone else to do it.

A useful video but i just wish it showed more of your issues removing and replacing the A post trim. I will fit my own dash cam but my nervousness is more around refitting the trim because of the airbag.

I felt the same however, it’s a very easy process if you have the removal tool from the hardwire kit and the plastic trim just comes off easy and clips back on easy. I am glad I attempted it

Hi buddy I’m finally thinking of doing this. In the Nextbase hard wire kit include the right fuse tap. I read somewhere that someone had to buy a different fuse tap. “Micro 2 fuse tap”

That’s great that you are going to give it a go. Do you have the J12 Qashqai? as the fuse connection that is needed for the J12 is in the kit. I did not have to buy any further product, don’t know specifically what the fuse size is called but the hardwire 2 kit should be fine. Let me know how you get on 😀

@@CarGuyUK just incase I’ve bought a 3 meter usb cable that I can plug in the arm rest usb socket and hide the cable under the centre console. My last dash cam was fitted by Helfords and my old car started to lock and unlock its self. I took the car back 3 times eventually I asked on the Skoda Karoq forum and got it tapped to the rear windscreen wiper fuse. I’ve downloaded your video for reference.

Hi there, watched your video while a mechanic who couldn’t speak English spent a really long time installing the camera in a car he’d never seen before (hardly any new gen Qashqai’s in Singapore). I persuaded him to use the power socket fuse but the camera is on 24/7. I’m paranoid about this because my last car drained the battery in 4 weeks. Should I changed the fuse to Elec Parts ign? I don’t want it on while it is parked. Tks.

well that socket in mine turns off and the dash cam goes off when I turn the car off so if yours stays on then it might be different. Yes I would swap to a fuse that only works when the ignitions turns on so you are sure that your battery will never drain as it could do if left on all the time, hope that helps

Hello mate, I am trying to fit a Blackvue 2ch LTE dashcam into the J12! But I am hoping to use parking mode. Which fuses would you recommend using? I try the cabin light/ Audio.. etc., which works temporarily even if the engine is off. (I used a multimeter to check if the fuse slot had 12V power when the engine was off.) But the problem is ... whenever I lock the car, it cuts off the power. Is any fuse sure to have constant power? I also can't find the hazard light fuse I hoped to use. (as it's not marked behind the fuse box cover....) I am not worried about draining the Battery, the cam comes with a little box monitoring the Battery. It should turn off automatically before it drains the Battery.) Any suggestions are welcome :)

Hello. It was Nissan who recommended to me which fuse to use, I wanted a switched fuse that was not live all the time as was worried about battery drain and never really asked what fuse was best for a permanent live. I emailed my local dealer who then spoke to their in house tech team and they came back to me with diagrams and which fuse to use so if you ask them which one is a permanent live even after locking I am sure they will be able to tell you. Hope you get an answer.

@@CarGuyUK 2:59 They've provided fuses for dashcam hardwiring labelled "Elect Parts (IGN)" for connecting the ACC wire of hardwire kit to be powered only after ignition in on and "Elect Parts (BAT)" for connecting BATT wire of hardwire kit which is powered all the time by the car's battery during Parking Mode.

Hi, I think you can run it up the door seal however, I found it easier to run down the A pillar and then down the back to drop into the back of where the fuse box is housed, its all hidden away even more neatly than having to push under the door seals but I guess that is an option too

Hi mate. I also have the E-power hybrid version of the J12. I wanted to hardwire a Nextbase 622GW but the technicians from both Nextbase and Halfords won't touch the E Power variant of the J12. Is there any reason why I couldn't install mine in exactly the same way that you have yours? I'm not good with electronics etc. so I'm really clueless - sorry!

That is odd. Did they say why they would not install it for you? I would presume the epower fuse box set up is the same and the MH but if in doubt before you have a go maybe call or email your local dealer and get them to ask their tech guys at the dealer, that’s where I got my info in which fuse was best etc before I did mine. Let me know how you get on, I was apprehensive but honestly I found it so easy to do once I got going.

Hello my friend. Where should I plug it in the fuse box to get constant power? There is a parking kit. To use it, you need a place where energy is constant. I want to attach it using a micro 2 fuse tap. Could you help? Also, would the airbag in the trim section be dangerous? thanks

I would ask your dealer which fuse is best if you are wanting a permanent live. I just wanted a switched connection. Regarding the air bag I am unsure what you are actually asking. I put the cable down the side of the air bag in the A pillar. It’s more dangerous if you put the cable over the airbag as this would cause a problem should the air bag need to be deployed. Not sure if that is what you meant.

Getting a 2023 tekna+ 1.3 dig-t 158 mhev xtonic next week want to fit my nextbase 622 in it, does the start/stop function of car reboot the dashcam when car restarts after a traffic light start/stop?

Hi. Stop start has no effect on my Dashcam and it continues to run when stop start is active tho I do turn mine off mostly. The only time it stops is when the ignition is turned off. Enjoy the new car

I cannot remember exactly however, if you have the Nextbase hardwire kit which you will need if hardwiring, I used one of the fuses from that as they supply one that fits, the pack comes with 3 various sizes.

hi fitted in half hour to 2023 tekna plus, for earth tag i used a blue circle power ring one and attached it to one of the bolts directly against bulk ( there are 2 with a bullet type thing in the middle fitted ferrite core to cable ran cable from dash behind the screen centre module ( groove at bottom so slid behind just right and up to headliner) tested and shuts off with ignition thanks

I did the same but how long does your cam stays on after turning the car off, I have the epower and takes around 2 minutes to turn power off to the fuses

My cam turns off before I even get out the car when I switch the engine off. Seconds. What brand is your Dashcam, maybe it holds a little more power before it dies?

Hi dude, I have a Qashqai e power 2023. I have bought a very powerful dash cam for it and the dealer is asking for a lot of money to install it. I have checked my fuse box which is similar to yours. Do you know if I need to connect the red wire to the Power Socket? Also, the headlights of my Qashqai are very dim. Do you know how to make the lights brighter, please?

Hi, firstly if your lights are not working as normal I would go back to your dealer as if it's a 2023 model they should be working perfectly. Regarding the dash cam, if it's the red wire like in my video, once that is plugged into the fuse box then that will provide the power to the dah cam. The power socket is rated at a power of 20 amps which should be enough to power a dash cam however, if you look at the specs of your dash cam it should indicate somewhere what type of power it would need to run. Hope that helps

If I connect it the way you showed, I hope it would not malfunction with the vehicle itself. I can share the pictures of my Fuse Box with you if you have time to guide please.

Are you able to tell me what make and model dash cam you have? Also if you have a J12 Qashqai I think the fuse box should be the same as mine, does it not look like mine from the video?
