I'll add that you might want to wrap the wires you tucked next to the fuse box (specifically the power adapter) in foam to prevent knocking sounds when driving on bumpy roads. It gets annoying

That fuse tap can be installed backwards causing two circuit loads to be powered from the main fuse. This can be bad depending on how much load is placed on the circuit

C do the same thing with an 12v electric out and hide cable under the carpet and in the windshield pillar. If I where you, I choosen a permanent 12v out to run the dashcam permanently for car surveillance or aut-on in case of shock

Looking to get this after a oncoming trucker moved 2 or 3 feet into my lane beeping and flashing his lights, then swerving back in his lane just before passing me, he was trying to warn me or something, I still can't understand a sick move to do that. But wish I had a video of it.

You really need to check your piggyback fuse holder is the correct way round or you will be adding the additional load onto the original fuse. In this case, a 1A fuse so if your dash cam draws 1A you will overload the original fuse. You just need to remove the original fuse and the dash cam should still work without it.

If I attempted this, I'd rip the weather stripping, break a plastic tab on the A-pillar, render the airbag ineffective, electrocute myself on the fusebox, and probably never get it to work.

This is extremely wrong: you shouldn't pick any random fuse like that. You might attach your dashcam to an important fuse for ABS, or airbags and in case of dashcam burning your fuse you will risk your life on the road without even knowing it. Always check your fuse box schematic and pick a fuse for non important parts like electric mirrors, heated seats or in best case lighter port.

You really should secure the wires in the A pillar above your air bag so it is not in the way in case your air bag needs to deploy.

Yes, that was a travesty. It's a basic fact about doing that work. If you have gone to all the trouble of pulling the cover off (which you should), you should finish the job right by securing the wires so they stay behind the airbag. You don't want them interfering with the airbag's deployment path and timing. I just did that yesterday when installing my dash cam in the front and today with the rear passenger airbag when installing the back-facing camera that connects to the front dash cam.

Why go to the trouble of removing A-Pillar trim ( as it should be done) and then allowing wires to interfere with the airbag ? Use CABLE TIES to attach dashcam cables to vehicle wiring already present.

nice video, but when doing an install of that sort, make sure you don't run wiring over the airbag.... I'm a professional installer and yes that little wire can cause a lot of damage. Other than that good job.

i dont trust you at all. Considering the fact you have a phone mount in the middle of the windscreen that blocks like 30% of your vision 45 degree to your right....Most people opt for vent mounts for the phone for a reason. That dash cam isn't mean to be in the middle of your windscreen, that model of dash cam is meant to be hidden above your rear view mirror and similar level to ur rear view mirror mount........And please don't put wires in front of your airbags, thats preventing it from deploying effectively. Most people that hide dash cam to the A pillar (including me) uses electrical tape or actual wire mounts to secure it to the corner of the A pillar and run the line down the A pillar to the side of the door and down to the 12v plug)...If you're gonna do it inside the pillar at least neatly group the wires together and not just leave it in front of the airbags...

Great video, its good practice to use a larger fuse to tap from, lager then 5A, the dash cam does not draw a lot but still better to run off a larger source. Also its good practice to tap from a non critical circuit, avoid fuel pumps, engine timing, gauge cluster etc, in case you do get an overload condition your dash cam doesn't hinder or disable your car, use something like heated seats, high beams if they are powered by ignition on.

@@noelcalderon2632 which car is it? there should be a wiring diagram available for almost any car, if you rally cant find a wiring diagram then the only way would be to use a multi meter and probe, i would try to find the running lights circuit and go off of that

Air bags are not designed to not hurt you they are designed to save life’s. You will have some damage from an air bad deploying they fly out an an insane speed there’s bound to be some injuries on you from it. I don’t think a wires going to make any difference

I would’ve hooked it to the fuse that keeps it on all the time even when the car is off to also catch possible car thief’s. It’s also good to have it on when the car is off to catch people that may hit and damage your car while it’s parked.

It's important which way you plug the fuse tap in. After removing the fuse from fuse box, you need to individually test the two fuse contacts in the box with a voltmeter to determine which is the "line" side (supply), and which is the "load" side. The line side will have voltage when the ignition is ON, the load side won't. When plugging in the tap, the wire to the new load must exit the tap on the same side as the load contact in the fuse box. If you plug the tap in backwards, the current for the new load will be drawn from the load side of the original circuit, which means the new load current will pass thru the original fuse as well as the new fuse. If your original fuse was 5 A and your new load is 10A you will blow the 5A fuse. This guy is obviously not a professional.

it's not really a good idea to leave the wires dangling inside the A pillar trim on cars with side curtain airbags as it could interfere or get damaged when the airbags deploy. It's best if you anchor the wires to something (preferably to the pre-existing harness), it also can prevent the wires from rattling.

Thanks for the video. Please also read the comments that warn you not to obstruct the air bag if fitted in the pillar, also it does matter which way around you plug the tap connector into the fuse board. Don't choose an important fuse to piggyback on. Lastly if you use an empty fuse position only use a fuse for your new accessory, don't have a 2nd fuse.

*BE AWARE* of what circuit you're tapping into- *NEVER* tap power from *IGN, FUEL PUMP, ECU/ECM/BCM or SRS* circuits; abnormal drain could cause starting/run problems, and/or ECU/ECM/BCM/SRS damage. *LOOK FOR* a *KON* circuit such as wipers or possibly the 12v socket. I can remember a time when Cops would automatically ticket you for fuzzy dice or feathered roach clips hanging from rear view mirror. Picture that😮

Why not connect to a circuit that's powered when the car is off? The dash cam I have has a parking mode. Plus, I discovered it doesn't keep the time and date after a while. I was surprised how easy you made it look to push the wires in at the top of the window. I had tried and had trouble on a Toyota Venza, but I'm going to give it another try.

Top tip if you are using a front and rear camera when you have digital radio like here in Europe. Throw three or more ferrite magnets around the cables that go along the side and roof to stop you radio not working when the dash cam is on. All dash cam power signals will interfere with the DAB radio antennas in your car unless shielded by ferrite magnets.

Just as an FYI. Craft stores sell self-adhesive felt sheets. With a small razor, you can cut strips of felt to fold around wires and stick to itself. This will keep wires from making noise against the dash due to vibrations.

IMPORTANT. Check direction of plugged in fuse adaptor, because if you plug it in wrong direction, 5A fuse wont work. Ofcouse your dash cam works, but it will be not fused at all. And suggesting to tie wires near airbag, and wire under airbag

As long as its hardwired and with"decent" parking mode it should do it's job. I say "decent" because many of the lower end dash cams will capture part of the incident or nothing due to not having"buffered parking mode".

@Kim: Some dashcams have batteries that are there ONLY for the parking sensor -- my Akaso Trace 1 Pro dashcam is one of them. The camera is powered from a 12v accessory socket that is NOT on when the car is turned off, but when the car is bumped it wakes up and starts recording for 30 seconds, then turns off...until the next bump. So it doesn't need power from the car's battery, if has one but as said, ONLY for the knock-sensor ("Parking Sensor"). The battery can only run for about 20 minutes max but for occasional 30-seconds recordings, that should be fine -- unless your car is bumped/hit A LOT! Then the next time the car is started it recharges the camera's battery (which is not intended for anything else since the camera itself starts up as soon as the ignition is turned on and gets its power that way). I suspect this Apeman dashcam also has a small battery to run its Knock Sensor. -- BR

The downfeed of your cable should be fitted carefully BEHIND the airbag in the side panel. As you have shown it, the airbag might be restricted in the event of an accident.

Good tutorial, but I wouldn't run wires like that in the A-pillar. The airbag will potentially force that wire towards the driver at over 200 mph+ of force which could be fatal. The proper way is to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery, then run those wires 'behind' the airbag.

Dash cam...nice clean mount. Phone holder...not the best. Not sure about other countries, but that's an MOT failure in UK. 'The Highway Code states that obstructions on the windscreen (like a phone holder, sat-nav or a dash cam) must not intrude more than 40mm into the area swept by the windscreen wiper. Similarly, a vehicle may fail its MOT if the driver's view of the road ahead is sufficiently blocked'.

Did you just leave them wire's hanging over the curtain airbag behind the A pillar cover 🤦‍♂️ that's very dangerous. Also I'm pretty sure the A pillar cover shouldn't be able to be removed altogether without breaking stuff (can't on the skoda superb) this is to prevent it hitting you in the face if the airbag goes off so I strongly suggest you look into that!

A-pillar removal isn’t that easy. Where is the plastic hook that doesn’t allow you to completely remove the pillar. It’s used for safety so the A-pillar doesn’t smack you in the face if the airbag is deployed.
