Installing Helper Leaf Springs

I installed these helper springs to help level the truck when towing our camper. This will increase the tension in the rear springs. It should help with sway and even help when using the truck for things like loading mulch or lumber in the bed. Thanks for watching.

Installed on my Chevy Express 1500,2011.worked great ! Raised backend about 1/2 in .Rides nice ,not stiff .Van is loaded with tools and equipment. Recommend for helping with a load. Waiting to see if helps sagging when my small boat is towed ?

Never used that brand, but all other brands say to tighten the axle-end of the spring to torque, and use the back end as adjustment...

That truck is gone now. The one I have now is getting ready to hit 200 thousand miles and still doesn't have any rust.

That's living in the south. No salt on the roads. My truck has 160 and is 13 years old and the only rust on it is on the exhaust.

Thank you for the video. Simple install. My question is about lifting the vehicle... do I lift vehicle on the axle or body to reduce load on the springs?

I lifted body. Before I tightened them totally, I put it down and then tightened to the proper foot pounds. Then checked them about 100 miles later.

Wow you say it raised your loaded ride height by 2"?? So this is exactly what is needed to keep a leveled truck from sagging while towing

bought the same kind however they show the plate going on top with the bolts sticking up.

I can't recall but I'm one to follow instructions plus, at least the ones I had, the u bolt fits perfectly in the grove on the helper spring. I don't think that the plate would sit flat on top of the helper. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

It helped. I did it to tow an rv and it put me almost 2 inches higher

First Time RVers yeah for sure going to use one. Also upgrading to 10 ply tires so that should help as well, won’t be as squishy as stock 4ply tires

Made it a little rougher ride, have since moved to airbags

@@rwreuter we didn't film that, sorry. The performed great. I would put in enough air to get the truck back to level. Need to go down to minimum of 5 lbs when not towing because the ride will be really rough for everyday driving. I didn't get the on board air compressor so I manually put air in them with a home compressor and air gauge.

I actually installing these now, though I'm putting two sets on, one in back axle a one in front on both sides. Directions show U bolt opposite (flipped) is there a reason you did that?

I am not sure what you mean. Each u-bolt is the same either way. There isn't a way to flip them.

Just one on each side

You know, I don't recall. I'm sure you could but I didn't use one. Wasn't to concerned. If it was new leaf springs or shocks or something I would have been more concerned.

How much did you lift the truck with the jack before starting the installation?

All helper springs I've seen go under the leaf spring.. why are these on top?? Anybody.. Bueller...

Just do some more research. 1) see the box in the video, these are OVER leaf helper springs. 2) google the directions for this model and you will see that they go over the leaf. 3) there are also UNDER leaf helper springs, these are not that style. I think you're supposed to install those on the bottom of the springs not the top.

They do make some that install on the bottom but these install on the top per the instructions and the box itself. Over Leaf Spring Assists.

Great video bro, but the product is shit. Installed it on my truck yesterday evening and woke up this morning and it was snapped in half. Truck didn't even have a load on it.

Sorry to hear that. Mine lasted almost a year before I took them off, sold them and put airbags on. I pulled a 10000 pound camper at least once a month and also did truckloads of mulch and garden soil.

Does it matter if it Goes under or On top the Leaf spring?

This style is for the top but they do make a style that goes under the leaf springs. The ones in the link below mount under the leaf springs: amzn.to/2U7ih2A

Different manufacturers have designed their leaf spring helpers for mounting above or below the leaf spring. Some mount below the spring to PUSH the spring up into it's original factory position and other mount above the spring to PULL the spring up into it's original position. The position depends on the make and model of your vehicle. Make sure the "helpers" you purchase are compatible with your vehicle and follow the manufacturer's mounting instructions. Those that mount below are generally easier to mount.

Maybe. But as a former hazmat technician I know it would take a lot more than. If it was that easy people driving and smoking or standing around cars while smoking would make an "explosing show!!!!"
