I've had a HID kit for sitting on my shelf for 3 years because I've been too scared to fit it myself. This video has just given me the confidence to do it, thank you! One question though, what are you going to do in regards to MOT now? As it was made illegal last year to have aftermarket HID kits.

Deedious These are legal if you have projectors lights which is the one I have installed and have been adjust correctly also can be legal with reflector headlights if you have it adjusted in a way it doesn’t dazzle it will require some modification so it doesn’t reflect and dazzle other road users

@@CARLISONIT In uk maybe, everywhere else in europe it's illegal. Besides, projectors alone aren't enough, you also need integrated washers and auto leveling functions for the projectors. Basically, oem or nothing. Your headlights look a bit off compared to oem, but overall they look great, much better than the old one. I would have stuck with halogen bulbs though.

David Viner Thank you! and yes they are legal with projector headlights however if you have reflector headlights then you would need to adjust and may need modifying to deflect the glare for oncoming drivers

Ah, I have the legal requirements for this below, worth mentioning that the lights need to be tested to the required standard so check this before installing otherwise you could be breaking the law and would be essentially driving without insurance: Therefore a HID headlamp unit sold in the aftermarket should: be type approved to ECE Regulation 98 as a component when fitted to the vehicle should enable ECE Regulation 48 to be complied with (although no government inspection will take place) comply with RVLR as far as “use” is concerned In practice this means: the headlamp unit (outer lens, reflector, bulb) shall be type approved to ECE 98 and be “e-marked” to demonstrate this. That can only be done by the headlamp supplier - Hella, Valeo etc. - who must test the headlamp in an independent laboratory once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have “self-levelling suspension” and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam the headlamp must be maintained in good working order, kept clean, and aligned/adjusted correctly in the same way as any other headlamp Under the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is an offence to supply, fit or use vehicle parts which are not legal. In summary: it is not permitted to convert an existing halogen headlamp unit for use with HID bulbs. The entire headlamp unit must be replaced with one designed and approved for use with HID bulbs and it must be installed in accordance with the rules stated above.

David Viner Yes this goes for cars with reflector headlights it would be illegal as they will reflect the lights all around and would dazzle other drivers, however projector headlights it is legal as it projects the beam pattern correctly

David Viner there are over 100 thousands of cars without headlight cleaners and sorry if I sound harsh but where does it say it’s illegal I know for a fact its illegal if your lights are obstructed and beam pattern is out of line and no I wont be installing headlight washers I’ve not seen any police officer pull someone over for not having them also i’ve not seen any mot tester say because you don’t have headlight washer you have failed sorry if i’m sounding harsh but dont worry too much about those things, as long as the car is safe to drive your lights are working so others can see you on the road (without dazzling others) it’s all good 👍🏾

Nice vid, I was going to get the angel eyes and get the guy that done yours in Kingston not too far from me but my water pump and stat failed cost near enough £600 it’s put me off spending any more doe on the motor nearly at 100k with these cars u never know 😫 what year is yours and how many miles?

Yeah that’s true, mines 57 plate 118i great condition inside and out was thinking of getting rid as too many people telling me they can start to be a pain with things going wrong with them. But I do like the motor so will see. Upgraded the bulbs in the mean time 12 quid off eBay ice blue they look like xenons too 🤙

Yes these will pass MOT so long as you have projectors hence I bought angel eyes, because the standard headlights don’t have them but these Angel eyes have them
