Just a heads up. In the beginning of this video, he lets you know he upgraded the intake and added a spacer. For a true stock car that has no upgrades here is a heads up. First this carb will not fit on the egr plate. The vacuum port on the back hits the solenoid and will not seat. Taking out the EGR plate and installing a Mr. gasket 3404 spacer set. This will keep the style most like stock. Plug the vacuum hose. Next it looks like all the smog stuff was off and some lines were rerouted. My vac line off the distributor does not go to the carb but to the other side to the back of the intake. I'm going to use the original line I took off the old carb. Lastly the fast idle solenoid will bolt back up with the use of a couple washers. It does not hit the kickdown switch on the solenoid. i am working on that.

I’ve been doing research watching a lot of videos to hook up a carb to my 302 and by far this is the most detailed video out there. Awesome job

This is a great video, especially the last piece of information regarding the switch! I've got a similar vehicle except it's a hatchback with t-tops. Keep up the good work, these videos are so important for documentation.

From reading comments, it looks like you did not use the electric choke wire from the original because it was a different voltage. 12 instead of 7. It looks like I could use the old choke, original wire. The next question at the end you hotwired the accelerator solenoid. Why did you not reinstall? I use in cold weather and need the fast idle. Does the new carb. have the mounting holes for the bracket and will it work with the throttle lever.

Thank you for posting this. I need to do this fuel line setup like you did. I was thinking if it would be easier to buy a new metal fuel line that attaches to the fuel pump, cut the line like you did and attach the filter and rubber hose, then attach to the fuel pump. Would that work? Thanks
@AdamzGarage
@AdamzGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that should work for sure. I was originally going to do that so I could save my original line in case I ever have my original carb rebuilt. 👍

When did you add the wood spacer? Could you have used the original spacer and connected the PVC valve to it? Did you add a gasket above and below the wood spacer?
@AdamzGarage
@AdamzGarage 3 жыл бұрын
I added the spacer about a month before the carb swap .I was having a heat soak issue . My original carb was mounted right to the intake, so I didn't have a spacer originally. And yes I used 2 gaskets above and below.👍

@@AdamzGarage tbat would be great! I am doing the same swap on a hatchback GT350 and am curious if it's a bit of bending, or if I have to make a step-back plate. If you want to share a photo, I can provide an email.

Hello Adam! I've been waiting for someone to do this video. I'm about to swap out the original carb on my 85 gt. I'm curious how your charging issue played out after securing the unused switch from the previous carb? Did you end up jumping it? To be clear, the circuit just needs to closed?
@AdamzGarage
@AdamzGarage 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the comment. Once I secured that switch out it has been fine since . I still haven't taken the time to remove and jump it out permanently..lol.. But yes, if I remember correctly, it has to be closed. Basically during wide open throttle it took the charging circuit out of the equation, then it would go right back to charging once you let off the pedal. 👍

@@AdamzGarage Thanks for getting back to me! If it works, it works! Ordering the carb today. I'm curious if 1986FordF-250's idea about keeping the choke thermostat to maintain the 7 volt power. I assume I could use the original wiring, given its the original setup, but i'll do my research. Thanks again!

At 9:05 in your video, you removed a braided vacuum line. It goes into the central part of the carb with a metal line to connect it. Do you recall what it’s for? Mine has a similar line and I cannot find any info on it anywhere!

@@hargbolfamilyvideos7902 The braided line that I removed went to the vacuum advance distributor. Hope that helps.

Thanks! That does help. My distributor vacuum runs to the manifold. I have a different vacuum line running to where yours was connected. Very common to see my setup in pictures, but still can’t find what it is.

Yes it has electric choke. But I couldn't use the original wire from the old carb. The new carb requires 12 volts when key is turned forward.

@@AdamzGarage You could have used the 7 volt motorcraft thermostat off the original carb. I use those 7 volt motorcraft thermostat caps instead of the crappy thermostats the Holley carbs come with, I use the stator wire off the alternator for 7 volts power on a couple of vehicles. I find it to work much better than the 12 volt setup and there's no chance of the choke ever opening without the engine running.
