Installing Home Assistant on Docker, Docker Compose and Portainer

When installing Home Assistant via Docker or Docker Compose, you instruct us to set the network to Host. But when installing Home Assistant via Portainer, you didn't stipulate a network setting. Seems that the default setting in my case with Portainer was Bridge Mode. Subsequently, my Home Assistant install via Portainer didn't work. After deleting the container and redoing the install via Portainer, I set the network to Host and now it works fine. Hope this is helpful. Excellent video by the way. Thank you.

Love your videos...I'm running Home Assistant and the Portainer add on... do you have any idea of how I can get a Sonoff 3.0 Dongle port to be recognized when I'm trying to setup ZHA integration in Home Assistant? I think the ports aren't available and it is driving me crazy. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

ok couple of differencess ive noticed with my setup. 1st: i installed docker desktop on ubuntu 2nd: google "Install Portainer CE with Docker on WSL / Docker Desktop" slightly different install for portainer 3rd: install Home assistant as you did on portainer.

Did you ever do a video on how to add other containers to integrate I still can't figure it out. It's easy when using supervisor but I don't want to just have containers that supervisor wants me to have

what a great video! made my life so much easier. now I'm wondering if I can use the same procedure to install HA operating system or supervised instead of core. I'm trying but I can't figure out the correct image link 🤔🤔 any help would be great

my yaml file is empty and if i do docker-compose up -d it says "command not found"

What are the advantages of virtualizing vs local hardware install ?

A few, security (if your service is compromised, it likely won't have access to your network directly, also can just dump the image and bring up a new with a fix for the exploit). Ease of use after setting it up: it's a little harder than just saying sudo apt get - however you also gain the ability to make copies of your current running state and even create stacks (collections of services) that you are able to redeploy to the same machine or even new machines if you wanted to upgrade or for any other reason. Both of those reasons I gave have more fine grain reasoning with in, like say someone you trust made a cool version of a tool and you wanted it, if they containerized it then you just deploy that container and it's up and running with no issues. As a software engineer myself, I've had times where I made something for one platform only for it to have issues on another, docker handles that for you so as long as you have docker (or some other container engine) it will run!
