I like this decoupling as brought a few for friend for his layout which was ok, they were manual ones just reversed then they worked, he was very please with them. Myself wish they done them for my gauge N gauge. Well one day someone will come up with a idea as making one for N gauge I hope.Roy

Such a simple accessory but what great play value. Just the ability to quickly and easily swap locos really adds a whole new dimension to the model. Great stuff. Will keep this in mind in the future.

Thanks, James, plenty of fun to be had I think. Plus I will be able to use the older items with mk2 couplings more reliably now. Oscar

Thoroughly enjoy your video's. It takes me back to my first train set - the triang hornby freightmaster - bought for my 9th birthday in 1969. Great when you look through all the old catalogues as I used to wait in eager anticipation each year to see what new models were coming out. Euan

Thanks Euan, glad you enjoyed the video. I remember endlessly looking through catalogues in the late 70s early 80s dreaming about items from there pages. It was great fun then and I still spend many now looking at the pages of these old catalogues and think if only I had one of those! Oscar

Hi Oscar - really nice addition to your excellent layout. Always surprising why Triang never introduced an electric unit given their Lionel USA connections and all the other electric accessories introduced - points, lights, turntable, level crossing, automatic stop start, etc - particularly as it can add so much play value

Good evening Ian, I agree very odd, the earlier series 3 and the Standard track had uncoupling tracks that would have been a good starting point to develop such an accessory. Oscar

Hi Oscar. Nice video what a difference uncoupler's make in a couple of places for swapping loco's and even great when doing shunting jobs great item. Regards. George...

Thanks George, I think I going to have great fun with this item and have just added some more in the sidings. Oscar

Very nice demo, and a clever bit of re-engineering. You have made what can be a pain look simple. Well done. Ps. Do you have a video on the point blade issue and your point set up? I've had this before. Thanks.
@oscarpaisley5 жыл бұрын
Thanks JohnPW22, glad you found that interesting. Sorry at present I have no video with about the point blades. I will see if I can include it in a future video. Oscar

That was great Oscar. I look forward to seeing it in operation in future videos. I was intrigued by the package of new point motors. Is someone making new ones for Tri-ang points? Regards, David.
@oscarpaisley5 жыл бұрын
Thanks David glad you enjoyed the video, The point motors in the packaging I bought used from Elaine ( elaines-trains.co.uk/index.php ) she has a great machine to seal things in plastic tubing. They looked so good like that it was a shame to have to take them out. Oscar

Lovely, I always enjoy watching your relaxing videos, Oscar. BTW, what is the jazz music you play in the background? Thanks.

Good morning Claire, it's great to hear you are enjoying the videos. A friend of mine very kindly creates the music for me using Apples GarageBand and the music loops provided with it and other loops from www.looperman.com Oscar

Nicely done:-) I was wondering, what happens if you inadvertantly leave the ramp "up" and run over it. Presumably a Mk2 will uncouple, but what of the tension locks, which if pulling will be "locked". Does the ramp sping down a little or could it lift and derail?
@oscarpaisley5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Andrew, the locomotives just push the ramp down if left up accidentally, the lighter wagons could derail although the heavy items just slow down with the extra drag. With the mk2's it as you say they uncouple. I have just spent the afternoon replacing the R.488 ramps in the sidings. Looking forward to having some older items out on the layout again. Oscar

Great video oscar I think switchable uncoupling ramps are a lot better

Thanks David these will give me more options with the older items that have mk2 couplings. Oscar

Won't the coil overheat when you leave the ramp up?
@rogerking72585 жыл бұрын
So what on earth are the fins about? Even Hornby advise that they may need grinding back, but in reality they need removing as you have done. If you leave them on, they foul on just about all locomotive's drive gears.
@oscarpaisley5 жыл бұрын
Hi Roger, I really don't see what the fins are for, I had thought it may be something to do with the NEM couplings and holding them in line? but as you say it just fouls most locomotives. Oscar

Hi Oscar. Are you sure it's 8422 and not 8244? What point motor did you use and is that a "passing contact" switch?
@paulmacey90842 жыл бұрын
sorry to be a pain but can you give me the link to where you ordered your switch from please
@oscarpaisley2 жыл бұрын
Good morning Paul I bought switches from a shop local to me " ESR Electronic Components Ltd. They do have an online ordering service also I've included two links below. The part number on there web site is (218-221) and "SPDT (On)-Off-(On) Miniature Toggle Switch - Solder" is the description they use for the item it's also the same switch Gaugemaster markets under there catalogue number (GM510). The first link takes you to a page which has a description of all the products Miniature SPDT Toggle Switches they have with detailed information about them. You can telephone them to make an order all the details are at the bottom of the page. Or you can use their online ordering page which is the second link I've sent you. Hope this is of some help. Take care. Oscar www.esr.co.uk/electronics/products/frame_switches-toggle.htm www.esr.co.uk/shop/contents/en-uk/search.php?searchphrase=218-221&start_page=1&searchFormSortBy=R-A&searchFormRootUse=A

"Two metal prongs" ?.........i'm not a modeler and even i know they are called "Fish Plates"
@gord3075 жыл бұрын
I believe Oscar was pointing to the two prongs on the fishplate, which are absent on more modern track.
@oscarpaisley5 жыл бұрын
Good morning Philip, you are right of course they are commonly called fishplate's and can also be referred to as Rail Joiners by some. And this variation used on these pieces of Super 4 track I was using have two quit large metal prongs that descend from them, these not only locate fishplate/rail joiner positively on the rail but also hold the rail in the correct place on the trackbed. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment its hugely appreciated. Oscar
