I finally ordered one of these update kits myself. Midway had a Lee press sale and I finally bought a 4 turret deluxe press and added the Autodrum update to the order. I have long wanted to try their 4 hole turret out. So I went looking for your video about the update kit. Thanks for all you do Vieho! That's a nice upgrade, and the old style hopper was always better than the new style bottle, wish they made it in smoke or clear. I may eventually get one and put it on my Auto Drum, but I have several risers that serve the purpose right now. On a side note, I've been using the translucent 1 lb. bottles that Eastwood PC come in, used the bottle adapters that came on the new style bottle and had my brother 3D print me a couple of the valves.

I just ordered a second old style hopper and an assortment of O-rings from Lee. I ordered a new Lee Auto Drum from Midsouth. They have some really good prices. Did not opt for the upgrade kit, which they do carry. I'm not having any issues with the older style locking ring. I've had pretty good success with the Lee Auto Drum and can usually hold about +/- 0.10 gn per throw. For load development, I still stick to my large or small cylinder RCBS Uniflo with the micrometer adjustment. I can hold 0.10 gn repeatability and document my grain throw settings for future loads with a particular propellant. Love Lee products though!

@@macoppoc7560 hiya, Mac. Thanks so much for stopping by. In many ways we fish in the same pond. I love my Uniflows. I also have calibrated my micro’s for various powders and have video on how to do that if you haven’t seen it. My Uni’s are my go-to for small-batch or even load development where I throw-low and trickle up on a beam scale. I get about the same resolution as you with the AutoDrum. I have several on Lee turret tool heads. Mine see the most use on that Lee Classic 4-hole turret press. All fine for range, trigger-time ammo. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

@viejo2a9 ай бұрын
Thanks for stopping by, Draque. I currently have autodrums on all my turrets. The new nut makes it so easy to remove the powder measure, I'm thinking of taking them all off, just leaving the die on the turret sand moving the same powder measure from turret to turret as needed. That would simplify my storage somewhat.

@@viejo2a Walter, I been reloading rifle ammo since 2010. But I recent started loading for pistol ammo. I have zero issues when loading 40 cal. But I keep on getting the “coke bottle” effect with 9mm. Any advice on what I’m doing wrong?
@viejo2a10 ай бұрын
@@williemoreno7801hi, Willie. The 9mm case is tapered from the base up to the mouth. If a full-length sizing die is used, the case mouth will be narrower than lower regions. When the bullet is inserted, particularly cast bullets at .356 or more, the top of the case will be wider than the middle and base. It is a common occurrence, and generally is not considered a problem as long as your cartridges chamber appropriately. The issue is sometimes mitigated with a different sizer die. The Lee carbide sizer is reputed to resolve the effect. Beside the sizer die, some other culprits are oversized bullets, too much pressure at the crimp die, and certain brands of brass. Personally, I only notice it when I use my Redding FL sizer, and don’t regard it as a problem. It’s doubtful that you are doing anything wrong. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

Nice video. But here’s a heads up. I like the old powder hopper too. However, I had one of the tabs that hold the body of the measure to the adapter break off while charging a case. It flew off my press like a rocket, spewing powder all over the place. With the newer hopper most of the powder would have been contained. I will never use the auto drum powder measure without the new style hopper again.

Gene..are you talking about the part of the ‘red hopper’ that connects to the black valve? You know..the twist one way to open, the other to close?

...I b0ought a Pro 4000 and am thinking of setting each die up initially in the no 1 station to make accessing the set up easier than doing it in the successive stations...any comments, criticisms etc??? I would think that since all the dies index off the shell holder it shouldn't make any difference...am I wrong??? And why??? Thanx...
@viejo2a9 ай бұрын
Hello, Mohammed, and thanks for stopping by. While I don’t have a Pro 4000, I’m not sure what you are saying here. If you are talking about, for example, adjusting your seating depth with the die in station 1, then moving the die to its proper station, then no. I would not do that. The tool heads are not all that precise (and neither are the breech lock bushings), there is the possibility of a die lock ring getting moved, and the shell plate will flex differently with just one die in place than it will with the plate full. For best precision and consistency, your seating depth and crimp need to be set with the shell plate full, and the dies in their proper respective locations on the tool head. I hope this is helpful.
@mohammedcohen9 ай бұрын
...I should have mentioned that I'll be using the breech lock system, that would, at least theoretically, allow me to change the dies between stations (and presses, mebbe???) I started reloading 50 years ago on an RCBS Rockchucker that I bought at the post Rod & Gun club in Germany - I have an RL550B that I'm fixin' to use for rifle cartridges and this 4000 for pistol cartridges and thought it might make adjusting the individual dies easier to do at station #1...thanks, my friend...@@viejo2a

Do you still need a riser for rifles dies
@viejo2a5 ай бұрын
Thanks for stopping by, Mike. I think that the answer to your question is somewhat complicated. With presses where the die stations are farther apart then you probably won’t need the riser. Also, there are some seating dies with micrometers that may need more room. I think you would have to test it with your own scenario to make sure. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
