Make sure check your doorbell transformer has enough voltage before install the doorbell. Most old house need to change transformer first. My house is 5v 10va, need to change at least 16v 30va to make this doorbell work.

Very informative video. Have had my G4 Pro since August and have been really pleased with the performance. Little to no lag talking to someone at the door when away from the house. Couple of items to note: 1. As another commenter noted, use the proper size doorbell transformer as called out in the installation instructions from Ubiqiti. I had to upgrade to a 16v 30va transformer on my new construction house. 2. Initially my doorbell chime did not work even with the proper wiring/settings. Took about an hour after installation before the mechanical doorbell chime worked. Has worked perfectly since then. Ran across a thread online with others having the same issue.

LOL @ the video clearly showing a REMOVE FILM warning on the Ring doorbell while you state: "The picture with this one has just been okay. I wouldn't brag about it, it's fine." :D Thanks for the video; there's now a holiday sale now on it so I've ordered one. Comparison videos show it's the worst camera they make (it is 2+ years old), but to be fair, this is in the doorbell form factor. While the PoE model would be better, at almost half price, this is worth it; definitely in the absence of a newer model. Happy holidays!

You know I have looked at the doorbell with the cover off 100 times and never noticed that. WOW. Not my best moment. As a matter of fact, I didn't notice until people started pointing it out in the comments. Thanks for taking it easy on me. LOL.

Thanks for another great video! I’ve had a G4 pro for over a year now and love it, but I’m always happy to see what tidbits you might enlighten me with The share live stream has been around for a long time (on all cameras to my knowledge). I know because I was looking at the possibility of using that instead of RTSP as a viewer before I broke down and got a Viewport. I went from the old button doorbell, so I definitely needed to enlarge the hole for the wires. The other issue I ran into was that my doorbell transformer is lower wattage than recommended. I would occasionally get low voltage warnings from Protect when the doorbell was rung. I have a transformer, but I have not put it in yet. I haven’t seen the warning in quite a while. I love the package view feature. It comes in very handy because we don’t use that door often. Nighttime viewing is great! I definitely avoid motion alerts as one of our barn cats likes to frequent the front porch at night, and we also have had birds trigger the motion at night. I have the POE doorbell that I’m going to install on the side of the garage (where most of our visitors come), but I have to run cable for that. (There’s no power, so if I’m going to run cable and I might as well run ethernet.) I’m looking forward to playing with Alarms to fine tune my alerts. Haven’t gotten there yet. I have the chime, but haven’t set it up yet. I’m taking heed of your warnings about letting it auto link. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing your story. My buddy had to upgrade his transformer too. His house was older though. I guess maybe my house is new enough?!? Lots of cool options with alarms. I’m going to play with that as well.

Just bought one myself with the current discount. I have a mechanical chime and checked my transformer and it’s a 16VAC 10VA, so replacing that as well to a 30VA version. Did see on the unifi help documentation they have better wiring diagrams for different wiring scenarios and denote the gray and black leads for the mechanical chime. The picture shows the gray wiring going to the transformer side terminal of chime and the wire u remove from it and the black wiring going to the front side terminal and its wire u remove from it. Not sure why the other online instructions don’t show the same. Great video hope mine installs as easily.😊

@@ethernetblueprint Yes , it might also have to do with it being cold outside when I installed it, which causes a warning and the chime not to work right away.

I had a similar issue with the mechanical chime right after installation. I had switched the setting to use a mechanical chime but it still didn't work. I saw several comments online that after a few hours their chime magically started to work. Well, that's exactly what happened to me as well. Chime works as expected now.

Great video. I too jumped on the Black Friday sale. Received my unit today. Disappointed to see the “test date” on my box is over a year old. Indication this isn’t a very big seller? Hope the hardware isn’t an old version. My Ring 3 has been flawless (unlike my Ring 1), so I really hope the G4 Pro doesn’t let me down.

Appreciate the solid install video. Not sure if this is called out but when i did the ring install, it has me turn off the power on at the breaker box to install the ring doorbell. Is that needed here?
@gregorystevens517311 күн бұрын
And I too took advantage of the BF sale for the same doorbell and yesterday returned it. Adoption and connection issues along with terrible lag in notification and video performance despite several hours troubleshooting resulted in the request for an RMA. My installation runs several G4 and G5 Pro cams on a Dream Machine Pro network. I've read others have had similar problems with their G4 Pro doorbells. My suspicion is that the wired version is the one to get if your installation environment supports it. What's also notable is that the Google Nest camera (in use before/after the G4 Pro trial) provides a longer IR range and clearer images in the distance for nighttime monitoring. And yes, I had sufficient transformer power to the G4Pro, etc. etc. etc. This device, wireless at least, is not ready for prime time.
@ethernetblueprint11 күн бұрын
I appreciate the comment and sincerely hope that I don't have a similar experience. I too have the UDM Pro for my storage, so I guess time will tell. I do agree that wired is always better if you have the option! Thanks for sharing your experience. Its good to let viewers know both the good and the bad!
@gregorystevens517311 күн бұрын
@ethernetblueprint I didn't make the decision to return it lightly. It's going to cost me $26 in a restocking fee. But I gave the device a good 4-day workout. I wanted to like it. But boy, what a frustrating experience. The Nest on the other hand, simply works.
@ethernetblueprint5 күн бұрын
And the funny thing is that the Nest doorbell that I installed for someone gave me nothing but fits and didn't work worth a darn. I had nothing but trouble. Not to say that Nest is a bad brand.... It's not. But we all have different experiences based on the environment it's installed in. Damn Restocking fees...

You might want to be careful with how many SSIDs (Wireless Networks) you are creating. Really, anything over four and your asking a lot for the deployment and clients to keep up with all of the negotiations and communications that happen.

Your Ring doorbell is the Pro and not the Pro 2 since it has the flat back and not the rounded edges of the Pro 2. I use UniFi cameras and WiFi for my home and I am very satisfied with their performance but when it comes to a doorbell I use the Ring Pro 2. The Ring app is very good and responsive. I have used this doorbell since it was released and has performed flawlessly. Package detection is spot on. I don’t mind paying a small subscription price for something that works. I was thinking about replacing it but reading some negative reviews of UniFi doorbell prevented me from doing so.
