Just did this with an MSD! Gotta say man, thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. Your channel and my Haynes auto repair book have given me more confidence to try stuff on my 66. About to do the rear mains and the oil pan gasket, your video inspired me to try it on my own! I'm 22 and you've introduced me to a whole new hobby I had never thought I'd be this into! Thanks again, and keep it up!

That’s great to hear you’re able to use these videos to help on your car. Hopefully the rear main is as easy for you as I make it in the video, it shouldn’t be overwhelming. You can do it!

@@AndyKruseChannel man, punching that seal that's up in the block was definitely a struggle, felt like it was melted or had been glued in! Everything's replaced now, just giving that rtv a little time to dry, then I'll start it up and see how its looking! Thanks again, really needed that video to get the job done!

Awesome, sounds like you got it! Yeah, that upper half seal can be a real bear to get out, but once you break it loose it’s all down hill from there. 😄

Hi Andy. I've got that coil on my 66. I also put the petronix distributor on. If you ever put one on your 66, NEVER turn the key "on" and leave it without starting it up for any length of time, it will fry your distributor.

The 1969 model year used a braided copper wire from the back of the head to the body. Directly to the head and the firewall is one of the best solutions.
@AndyKruseChannel3 жыл бұрын
I've seen those before and I almost did them, but I like the black wire as it is stealthy. :)
@dallasharris89663 жыл бұрын
3 ground wires really ? If you do it right the first time, you don’t need all that extra unnecessary bs . Just saying .
@douglasknutsen3 жыл бұрын
Andy , consider putting another ground wire from the back of the alternator to ground .

That's a good idea, thanks!

Hi Andy, thank you for the easy and clear instructions. I was nervous to do it lol. In your video, you mentioned how to ground the negative to the car. Why is this necessary? Please educate us.
@AndyKruseChannel2 жыл бұрын
Awesome, it really is an easy upgrade. :) The motor is isolated from the metal chassis of the car at its mount points, so a ground wire is needed from the motor to either the negative terminal on the battery, or a metal location on the car. Also, adding multiple ground wires allows the electricity to find the shortest path to the battery, and your current setup may not be the ideal setup for proper grounding. I recommend at least two ground wires from the motor, and at least one from the negative terminal on the battery to the chassis. Having the just one wire from the motor to the battery is usually not good enough. :)

Hi Andy, does your car have a pink resister wire and/or a resistor block, and if so did you have to remove one, the other or both? Thx! Steve
@AndyKruseChannel2 жыл бұрын
My car has the pink wire (it looks more like a faded salmon color), and it's located behind the instrument cluster. I left that in place and made sure to get the correct Ohm rating for my new coil.

No need to disconnect the battery to replace it? Just got my 68 Coupe!

It’s a good idea to get in the habit of disconnecting the battery when working g in electrical components, but sometimes it’s not going to make a difference. 🙂

did u notice a difference in engine function post install ?
@AndyKruseChannel3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no, but to be honest I wouldn't know what that would feel like if there was a difference. There really wasn't anything wrong with the coil I removed, I was just trying to get ahead of the part failing over time, when these coils fail it's usually after it causing firing issues for a long period of time, a slow process. With all the other mods I have on the car, it's hard to see if the new coil was kicking butt or not. :)
@midnightraiin40353 жыл бұрын
@@AndyKruseChannel oh, thank you for that. my car is misfiring. i freshened up distributor (points, rotor, condenser). and better but not 100 percent. i will do ohm test and get one to be safe. great channel

Hey Andy, long time no talk. Hope you're finding a nice way to reflect on memorial day. Did you notice any changes after completing this upgrade along with the new electronic ignition? Mine are still stock and currently have 0 issues but any improvement for me is worth it
@AndyKruseChannel2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, the Memorial weekend has been great. I have not noticed any difference in how the motor runs or performs, but honestly I wouldn't know what to look for. I do enjoy not needing to worry about adjusting the Points, but this upgrade was mainly to ensure I had good parts on the car. This might play a larger role when I do more with the motor down the road. :)
