Installing Our VCT Tile Floors!

Bathroom Remodel Part 11: Today, I started installing the light fixture and switches, but realized that I was trying to wire up the wrong type of switches, so I'll take care of later. I moved on to installing our VCT (vinyl composition tiles) flooring for a cool, sort of retro look. We had a bunch of vct tiles left over from our kitchen & bath downstairs, so we used them up here in a 3 color pattern. They turned out pretty cool!

Great job on the floors. I originally didn't think I would like them, but after it was down I like um. Great pattern. Too bad you have to now cover them up with a toilet and vanity, but I guess those items are pretty essential to a bathroom... lol.

Use a vct cutter makes job easier, also use a torch or a heat gun on the tile the soften it up then cut with a utility knife /blade cleaner and easier..looks great though

Thanks for the series. VCT looks awesome. What's coming after the bathroom is done? I wanted to talk at my phone to tell you to reuse the mounting screws from the switches or outlet you were replacing, instead of running to the store. I don't know how many times I've made a 30 min run for something that I already had. Sucks.

I learned about it when we first did the kitchen/dining floors a few years back. I read/watched a bunch of vct tile tutorials, and that trick made it so much easier & quicker than measuring.

That's exactly what it was. I pulled both switches & the outlet at the same time and didn't pay attention to how they were originally wired which was a mistake. Mix that with my novice wiring skills, and it took a long time to figure out. haha

Yes, the VCT can get slippery when wet or oily.

I love watching your series. Your bathroom renovation isnt hard, but also not for a newbie either, but I can see a big change! I love renovations, but I sadly dont have the money or someone to support me to do it with. When we moved in my husband was too lazy & cheap to do any renovations; I just gave birth to our daughter at the time so I couldn't get anything done either. So after about a year, I got fed up with the old yellowed stick-on tiles from the previous tenant that I went out myself to HD and bought 2 boxes of these stick-on tiles that are suppose to be almost like real tiles. I spent the whole day myself taking off the old ones & sticking the new ones. It was a lot of work. Cutting the tiles was pretty easy. I wanted to make spacing for grout but the Mister said no because it'll be a BIG dusty mess. So instead we just finished with some silicone caulk on the edges. I regret not doing the grout. When I finished the floor, I was so surprised that one little change has changed the whole feel of our apt. I went for a white/grey marble tile and it LIT up our apt sooooooooo much! Before with the old ugly yellowed tiles the whole apt. looked yellow & old. Once I laid out the new tiles its as if we were in a different apt. I love it. I can't wait till we can afford to own a bigger place so I can make it our own space - renovate it to how WE want it and now how the previous owners had wanted it. When that day comes, I'm gonna be showing my husband your videos to show him, RENOS EASY! WE CAN DO IT IN A WEEK TOO!!! LIKE HIM! 😂😂😂

Renovations are always pretty messy and it gets all over the rest of the house, but if you can keep it more of a simple makeover (paint, re-tile, etc) instead of full on renovation (knocking down walls, building a new shower, etc,) it can be so much quicker & easier and you still get that "new place" feel. Our house was just so rough everywhere that we had to get rid of just about everything and start over.
