I fit a lot of alcove cabinets, mostly in Victorian and Edwardian properties. Always surprises me how much the floors are out from one side to the other. I always set up my laser level and fire it across the two alcoves so the cabinets are level with each other. Really handy tool especially when I’m fitting floating shelves on both sides

Yes we level across too :-)

Really enjoy your installation videos with the narration and watching the project through to completion. The end result is impressive to me 🙂

Since I started using uscribe jigs I have been able to do scribes so well there has been no need for silicone or caulk. I would highly recommend trying as you'll be amazed! Thanks for the vid 👍 Sam

Hi San, I think I would always put a small bead of silicone though to get rid of the gap/line, but maybe one day ill try the jig :-) Cheers Ryan

The build looks good, could you show a drawing of the backings that mentioned are against the packers? The install looks good

Never used silicon up the scribes, usually decorators caulk so it can be painted. Do you match the colour of the furniture you fit?
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop Жыл бұрын
I'm the opposite, the customers usually want a finished job and don't want to have to paint the caulk, plus it takes a while to dry. We use tinted silicone sometimes but mainly white 👍

Looks amazing mate. I am currently in the process of some thing similar with the layout. The client just wants all book shelves so no cupboards this time . Also not going full height as the customer has an old decorative cove that she wants to keep on show. Just wanted to know why you use silicone rather than chalk?, and what brand do you use,if you don’t mind. I love your work.

Hi thank you mate I really appreciate it 👍 I use silicone as fitted furniture such as alcove units and wardrobes etc will always have movement, especially if there are doors or items that are taken on and off shelves for example. I've used caulk lots and lots of times but the joint between furniture and wall ALWAYS cracks. No mater the quality of the caulk it will always crack or show movement at something. This is my reason for using silicone over caulk. Silicone is designed for these situations where there is movement. It wont crack or brake with movement of over time 👍

For the scribing of trims, do you or have you ever used the U-scribe jigs if so how did you get on with them?
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop Жыл бұрын
I'll be honest, I've never used them. I'm happy with the way we scribe, we just take multiple measurements in 200 or 300mm increments. Maybe I'll try the uscribes one day 🤣
@faisalashraf237 Жыл бұрын
U-scribe works wonders and if you have a steady hand you can avoid using caulk or silicone.
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop Жыл бұрын
@faisalashraf237 to he honest is always want to use something to cover the joint as it would be visible, no matter how good you get the scribe. But I will try them one day for sure!

Do you not level your base units left to right so the left unit and right unit are at the same height?
