I have a question, do you have to have the brake booster?
@AlfsMustangGarage
@AlfsMustangGarage 3 жыл бұрын
No you don't. The booster is simply a vacuum chamber that assists you when you push on the pedal. Essentially makes it feel softer and more like a modern car. Without the booster, the pedal just feels stiff. Which is fine and you're probably used to it feeling stiff with an old car.

Ok my friend! Time to replace my manual brakes master cylinder, (Wilwood 7/8 bore and new Prop valve! You armed me with all the info I need!!!! Already have factory discs on front but still drums on rear. (street car now). Might convert to disc this winter. Thanks for all you do sir! @@AlfsMustangGarage There is NO room to fit a booster in there. The engine fills up that area, but wish I could! I think with the Pedal change out, 7/8 or 15/16 in bore and new prop valve should take care of it. Everything else has been changed, lines, hoses and a complete brake system bleed with all new fluid. Have fun moving. I would help if I could. Later my friend!!!

Could you rough fit the proportioning valve booster and master . Then take a temporary.piece or 12 wire you can easily bend by hand as a Model then use that to mimic your break line? If you get it fairly close it might make it a little easier and possibly fas a faster

When you go to install the control valve, it's crucial that it goes back in the same position. Make sure you mark it before you remove it. Also when you remove it, don't use a pickle fork like I did. It will just rip the ball stud out and then it will be stuck in the pitman arm.

great video. could you have used 2 plugs at distribution block to cap off original rear line and original line for rear brakes coming off of master cylinder? then new rear line from master cylinder would go to "in" side of new proportioning valve eliminating the last brake line you made?

Well even a car with disc all around. If there is a pressure differential valve to illuminate a light when there is a loss of pressure, that wouldn't be functional if both front and rear systems didn't run through it.

Two things to look for if you can't get fluid to bleed out the rear. The rear brake hoses can swell shut from the inside. Also in the brake distribution block there should be a brake pressure warning switch. If there is a brake fluid leak, there is a shuttle valve inside that will shift towards the direction of the leak and block fluid flow off. This can inadvertently happen when bleeding if you don't use the special tool to prevent the valve from moving.

Thanks for the instructional videos... very helpful. I do have a question. In my 65, I added front disc brakes and left the rear drum as is. I can only fit a single bowl M/C ( shock towers are in the way for a dual bowl) along with the brake booster. What I have found is once the installation is complete and lines are all bled, it seems like braking is different. In doing a test drive....I am pushing the brake pedal more..seems like to the floor....more than when I just had drums all the way around. Is this common?
@AlfsMustangGarage
@AlfsMustangGarage Жыл бұрын
Doesn't sound common. Does your brake pedal need to be adjusted? Did you bench bleed the master cylinder? Were all the rubber lines replaced? Are you 100% sure there are no leaks in the system?
@dougcampbell1546

@@AlfsMustangGarage did not bench bleed ( due to ability to get m/c installed. Not enough room with bowl cover attached) but I’m sure there are no leaks in the system. Had help from a mustang guy to make sure all lines were bled. I am not sure about adjusting brake pedal.

Yes, as long as the distribution block is just a block and doesn't have a built in proportioning valve. Then you would add the proportioning valve for the rear brakes. I hope that helps answer your question.

Are you aware that thing your calling a distribution block is a combination valve that does both metering and proportioning?
@AlfsMustangGarage
@AlfsMustangGarage 2 жыл бұрын
That would be incorrect on a 67 mustang. Those are simply distribution blocks and do not proportion brake pressure in any way.

@@AlfsMustangGarage ok so that’s why the brake light switch for the instrument panel is coming out of the pressure differential valve right? Because it’s just a distribution block?? Okay bro.

@@AlfsMustangGarage and a 76 mustang would have a single piston master cylinder on it with one line out , wo why does your valve have 2 inlets if it’s not for a tandem one?
@AlfsMustangGarage
@AlfsMustangGarage 2 жыл бұрын
So the pressure differential valve is simply that. If you loose pressure on the front system or the rear system, there is a shuttle valve that will slide in the direction that brake fluid is flowing through (or leaking) and ground the switch thus turning on the brake warning lamp. That indicates to the driver that there is a loss of brake fluid pressure. In no way does that proportion different pressures to front and rear. If your Mustang was factory equipped with front disc brakes, it came factory equipped with a proportioning valve that was separate from the distribution block. Cars that were factory equipped with 4 drum brakes, only received a distribution block. Look, its okay to learn something new so don't take it from me. Its not my business to sit here and try to convince you that you're wrong. Go do your own research and then you can come back on here and let me know what you find out.
@twiztidschwartz9292
@twiztidschwartz9292 2 жыл бұрын
@@AlfsMustangGarage you’re 100% correct. Since the car was all drum, it was just a distribution block. Had it been a factory front disc and rear drum, for this year, it would’ve probably had an in-line proportioning valve near the rear axle. Don’t think they started with combination valves until some time in 68.
