I would skip the grease , load it up with cavity wax after cutting the rust out with a panel cutter on a air chisel or cut off wheel , as far as the tape i wonder if panel adhesive they put new cars together with would work better

I agree with you cut all the rust spots out then rivet/glue the panels in place sure it will look "Frankenstein" "mad max" but better to have true metal then polished rust as the end result.

I would use a two part epoxy to bond also, they look kind of flimsy then go ahead and hang your exhaust with a coat hanger.

Make sure you seal it good with sum oil to prevent rust. I use the military oil they use in frames. If not you will make them rust faster since water will get stuck under their

quick question about the rivets. I have a 2004 Silverado 1500 and the underside of the rockers on both sides is pretty much gone. Meaning there is nothing left to rivet to. Would this still be a good solution to make my truck look better if I can't put in rivets?

How far does the cab corner stick out from the body. I feel like it would look weird

The plastic is just over 1/16" thick or about 0.07", so it is not very noticeable. And because it goes up to the natural body line of the truck, it is not very noticeable unless you are looking for it.

How fragile are the covers? After a year or more, have they cracked, faded or warped? Has the double-sided tape come loose?

Hi there! Great questions. Quick Covers are made of ABS plastic, a very durable material. They hold up to rocks, salty/icy conditions, car washes, etc. As long as they are painted properly, the plastic will not fade or warp in any way. Lastly, the tape is a 3M double-sided automotive-grade tape specifically designed for body work. They used to make those I have a set sitting here that I'm just about to put on a 2000 3 door extended cab. To my knowledge they discontinued manufacture of them for the three door cabs.

In the Uk, this truck would fail its annual inspection. This amount of corrosion would need to be cut out and new steel parts welded into place. Plastic just would not make the grade

You have to have a super duty type cab. So a F150 does not fit.

Hi Chrystal. Our products are intricately designed to fit extremely close to the body of the vehicle, and installing covers on a vehicle other than the one intended would likely lead to poor fitment and other issues. Furthermore, we strongly discourage cutting or altering Quick Covers to try to get them to fit on vehicles other than we specify they will fit on. We do not currently offer a product for a Suburban.

Not if you cut the rusty metal and cure the bear metal with rustproofing or something if you think ahead and do all the steps that you have to do but if you cover the rusty panels just to make your truck look good than it’s your fault it’s on the amount of work you are willing to put onto it

This is obviously not a long term solution. It's low cost solution to make your truck look nice for a few more years. Even getting it done the correct way you'll spend about $3000 and with Iowa winters the new rockers will start rusting again in a few years. Also doesn't help this generation of Chevy trucks are rust buckets. It's really not worth putting tons of money into the body and not everything else underneath cause it will rust so bad these trucks can't be driven. If your gonna drive a truck like this daily and in the winter it's days are numbered and this is a cheap solution to make it look ok till that day comes.

Does the bed need to be removed from the cab to be able to reach the back end of the cab?

No. The bed does not need to be removed. In this case, this truck was in the process of undergoing other work, so the bed was already off, but the covers are typically installed without removing the bed. Running boards will need to be removed prior to installation, especially if mounted to the lower pinch weld seam. The doors don't need to be removed, though some people prefer to remove the rear doors to have more space and make it easier to fit the covers and minimize the risk of damage during installation.

I think I would take a pressure washer.Take the plugs out and blast it out for quite sometime.Then put the muratic acid Stick out with the pressure washer then let it dry big time!! And then 3 guesses, the first 2 don't count.Put the POR to it, let that dry.It will turn to Stone, no more troubles. Fricking rookie l o l

Textured Quick Covers are UV stable and do not require paint. Smooth Quick Covers must be painted, as they are not UV stable. Both are black ABS plastic.

Our provincial government requires us to safety inspect ours every two years, do yours pass gov. safety inspections? The reason why I ask is because I live in the most corrosive region in the world (The Northwestern Atlantic region that stretches from New England to Newfoundland). I do know there are states/provinces where Quick Covers would not pass inspections, but I recommend you check yours specifically to be sure.

After greasing the main areas, we recommend using Like90 Wet Black Cavity Wax to get the nooks and crannies and interior spaces that are difficult to coat with grease.

I use Corroseal on my semi frame. Designed for ships with heavy rust of metal like chains and stanchions etc. Just paint it on, let it do it's thing,. I use black rustoleum on top. It lasts for 2 years, and handles prairie heat and direct sun, plus Alaskan cold temps.

These are just a cover. Even the inhibitor isn't going to stop the rust. The other thing, and maybe most importantly is that rocker panels and the inner rocker panels are structural components that provide crash protection. I don't think plastic rockers are going to provide any crash protection. Bottom line is if it's worth repairing, do it right and maintain structural integrity.

You are right that these do not provide structural support. Customers interested in this product are looking for a cosmetic solution. The structure is already gone due to rust, so doing nothing will only make it worse. Adding our covers provides durability and protection from further rust, but does not stop the rust. Unfortunately, getting it repaired the traditional way also does not stop rust. Unfortunately, we've seen these types of customers return to get it repaired again years later when those new panels have now rusted through yet again. That is why this product was developed. It started at an auto body shop and the amount of customers looking for a DIY or cheaper alternative with an original appearance led us to begin designing these.

Better off to go down to your local steelyard take some measurements of your rockers like I did in my F150 and replaced it with some quarter inch steel and just welded together in the fucker last forever I mean absolutely forever with quarter and steel that’s what I did it ain’t got a look exactly the same it’s just Gotta be structurally sound these are trucks people they’re not Cadillacs they’re not Porsches their work vehicles they make money

This is not an ideal repair. The OEM panels are an integral part of the body. The strength is lost in the case if an accident. The cab has no structural integrity. If you dont care about yourself or your passengers fly atter!🤨
