This is one of those must-have parts, I should have done this sooner.
This overflow tank was designed to work with my Champion Radiator I had previously installed as the mounting tabs align with the bolt pattern on the side of the radiator.
Overflow tank, polished aluminum, 2" x 13" tall, ordered off Ebay.
The car is a 1966 Mustang Coupe with a factory V8 and T5 transmission.
Shot with GoPro Hero 8 with the Media Mod, edited on Davinci Resolve 17.

I also bought that overflow tank, haven't installed yet. PS: that fan so close to the engine gives me goosebumps 😂

You and me both! Moving that radiator forward about 1/4" (to the other side of the sheet metal it mounts to) would probably be best.

HI Andy, love your videos, they have helped me do heaps on my 66 mustang here in Australia. I purchased the overflow tank from eBay and it arrived today. However the lid is very loose when you put it on. ( i just had another look at your video and yours appeared very tight when you put it on and off) should it be pressure tight or just tight so it wont come off?? Regards Jeremy
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 5 ай бұрын
The lid does not need to hold any kind of pressure, so it doesn't need to be tight enough to do so. I actually think the lid on mine is too tight, and I keep thinking I'll do something about it, and then I get distracted and never touch it. If your lid is like mine, you can bend the tabs on the lid in a tiny bit (towards the lid) and that should tighten it up. Make tiny adjustments so you don't make it too tight on the first try. Good luck, you've got this! :)

Andy does that system draw the coolant back in when the radiator cools off? I am looking to add one to my 1959 corvette and have not been able to find a video where they showed the connections and how it worked. Thanks and great job on the video.

Thanks! Yes it can as the inlet tube on the overflow tank barely goes up inside the tank. The shorter of the two tubes on the bottom is the inlet. The long tube goes way up inside, almost to the top.

@@AndyKruseChannel but how would the fluid in the overflow get sucked back into the radiator?
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel Жыл бұрын
@@NoblesTx By the vacuum created from the low pressure that takes place once the engine cools and therefore the coolant temps are reduced. This is the same design as OEM overflow tanks, nothing magical here. :)

Hi Andy, great video. I have a 65 Mustang with a 302 Stroker. Do you have any videos on how to burp/bleed the air out after changing a thermostat? Thanks
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel Жыл бұрын
I have found the easiest way is to drill a small hole in the top of the thermostat (around 3/32" or so) and it does a pretty good job of getting the air out. You'd think with a hole in it that the coolant would get by it and cause issues with the cooling system, but I've never had an issue. I done this on all three of my Classic Mustangs with no problems. I cover the details about it in my video called "Replacing the Thermostat Housing Gasket". :)

Hey Andy, great video. Do you need to add any coolant to that overflow tank? I've read that there should be some coolant in the bottom of them and that the radiator should be full to the brim also?? Thanks Dan
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Ideally, the coolant system has been successfully bled of all air and topped off correctly, therefore not needing any coolant after a norm drive. The radiator cap would have to open and release some pressure if the system wasn't bled properly before it would pull fluid back in. It wouldn't hurt anything to have some in there. :)

Ordering one now. What size mounting bolts should I pick up? Also, is it ok to place it so close to the heat source? Any advice/video on how to bleed radiator? Appreciate your input. 🤙
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel Жыл бұрын
You're better off heading to the hardware store after you get the overflow tank so you can see what size bolts would fit your application. There's no issue placing this tank next to the radiator, it's just an over flow tank. I have videos where I install the Radiator, Water Pumps, and Intake Manifolds where I go over adding coolant to the system and how to get the air out. :)

Very informative video. Question is that there are two tubes coming from the bottom of the tank, but one hose? Which is connected? Thanks!
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! One tube is the "breather" tube, it goes up to the cap, and the other is the filler tube. The longer tube is the "breather" tube.
