That kart is bad to the bone! And hey, we’ve all been there sometime we get a vision we just can’t see around to save our lives. I’m restoring an old hammerhead for my boys and was researching that very reverse gearbox. Hope it’s still working out for you, good video.

Definitely subbed. I have a hammerhead 150 and have been wondering what kind of power that box can handle too. I've been wanting to go 420cc or a bike engine in the 250-500 range.

Unfortunately, there is no other shaft that can be used, that I know about. A machine shop can do this work for you although, I wouldn't know how much money it would cost.

The frame and motor usually break before the reverse does from what I've seen

What size engine is that? I have an xs650 I am about to start making, and its also 50hp. So I'd be very interested in knowing how this has been holding up for you and even your clutch dumps, lol.

XJ550 and the engine has performed verry well. No issues from the reverse so far.

bit risky the location of the lever, last thing you want is it to get bumped and engage reverse accidentally could be catastrophic

This can't happen. Lever is spring loaded and has a long travel before engagement happens.
