Installing running board lights 2019 Ford F150 STX

In this video I explain and demonstrate the installation procedure for the running board lights made by OPT7. In this kit there are two 60" LED lights with wiring and associated hardware. This kit will be installed on a 2019 Ford F150 STX. Link to the item below.

After filming the video it dawned on me I could wire the white courtesy light on the running strips to the rear bed light on the cab. I suggest you try that if you want the courtesy light feature of the running strips to function without having to find the dome light circuit.
Lastly, it should be noted if you wire the turn signal wire for the LED strip to the rear turn signal or trailer harness like we did in this video, your running strips will glow brighter when you apply the brakes. This is the better option as if you were to splice into the front turn signals, you'll have strobe effect coming from the led strips when the engine is running. Installing diodes doesn't seem to help resolve that issue either. Now that you know all the things, you can make an informed decision. Wiring the LED lights to the trailer harness will trick the truck into thinking you are pulling a trailer and the cylinder deactivation will no longer function. You can decide if that is a benefit or not based on your personal preference.

Thank you for the video. I'm doing the same install now. I've read that wiring into the rear turn signals causes problems with the LED strip when the brakes are applied; likewise with wiring turn signals into the trailer wiring harness as turn signals are shared with the brake lights signal. Have you had any problems with your install? In hindsight, would you wire the same way again? Any advice? Thank you!

You are correct that wiring into the turn signal causes a weird strobe effect when the brakes are applied. Something that wasn't noticed until later because it only happens when the engine is running. Something to do with the alternator I think? In any case installing diodes into the circuit didn't fix that either, so that was a colossal waste of time. Thus the turn signal wiring was abandoned and now the LED strips on the sides only come on when the parking lights are on, and they turn white and act as courtesy lights when the truck is unlocked. I spliced into the bed light as it illuminates when the doors are unlocked or opened. In conclusion if I were to do it again from the beginning only slice into the parking lights and the bed light and call it a day. Don't bother with the turn signal wire...unless you don't mind the strobe when brakes are applied whilst the engine is running.

@@PhilipWahlbom No problem. Keep me posted on your install. You'd do good to only splice into that bed light for the courtesy lights and I'd also suggest using a toggle switch to turn on the LED strip wired directly to the battery. In hindsight I'd wire the parking light wire directly to a toggle switch connected to the battery. Then you avoid running a lot of excessive wire and splicing. Unless you have a solution for that strobe effect, that's the fastest and cleanest way to do the install.

White light was wired to the truck's cargo light since that light also illuminates when opening and unlocking the truck.

nice yea you can wire it on pasanger front theres a gray with purple line or a all purple wire the biger one theres 2 purple ones a big one and a smaller one
