Very nice, Evan. You might consider how to install a permanent access ladder to the roof since you may need to maintain that array every once in a while.

You'd be surprised how many times you need easy access to the Solar Array. Ice, snow, birds wasps etc
@robson30rp

@@bay9876 not only for those reasons the ground installation (of course if you have enough place on the ground) is a way easier to be maintained, but the most important issue is fire safety.

Very impressed, Evan, that you were able to complete this huge job, while also filming a great video for your viewers. I love everything about this video from the "eye in the blue sky" views of your house and property to your ability to make it look easy to get the panels in place by yourself while describing the process. Great job. Kudos to Rebecca, too, for her important part in the whole process.

Great job! My old man used to say "look back at the past year, and look at your accomplishments outside work. Did you do more than neighbour Joe? If so, you will become a millionaire." I absolutely love your ambition and I'm glad you had a concerned wife on the ground. My guess is you probably just saved yourself $4000 in installers for the day. Keep it up.

To save on cabling you "jump" the cables to every other tigo and then on the end you go back to those you jumped over, minimizing or even eliminating the need for long cable runs and improving (reducing) rf reciever area.

Evan a couple of eye hooks (heavy duty) installed on your pole barn at high level means you always have a location to tie or bungee cord the top of your ladder to the barn whilst in the roof. It stops any risk of falling in the wind and more importantly is secure when you are climbing back off roof. A few dollars well spent

What an interesting, informative video. I’m with Rebecca. Although I am a pilot I am not fond of ladders or roof walking. Standing on the edge like you did scares the heck out of me. But, to do it with my back turned would cause me to go into cardiac arrest. PLEASE …. Next time have TWO on the roof and one on the ground. Thanks for posting this.

Looks like you have done a great job. It gets harder to work with age! I’m proof of that! I remember framing houses in my 20-30’s and it felt like I was at a playground compared to now! I’m presently 63 years old and I can feel my hamstrings in my legs starting to get much stiffer than I wish that they are. I was warned by some older men about this, but I used to feel that I had plenty more time in my hour glass! 😊 anyways I enjoyed your video. I’m in the process of setting up 6@240 watt panels that only weigh 41 pounds, but to me they may just as well be 65lbs! They’re going on my portable garage that’s 20x30 feet long!

Suggestion you need to tie off ladder always wind can happen any time also recommend a slide out prevent tie off to keep bottom of ladder from walking out at the base been there and done that and got stuck on roof and have the bottom slide out while on ladder if you use ladders long enough it's just matter of time it will happen

Tying yourself off in some way would have been a good idea. One thing I praise your for is wearing tennis shoe's on your metal roof not only helps to NOT SCRATCH your metal panels with boots, etc. but to also stop you from slippage on the metal roofing. Fortunately you didn't have a steep pitch which helped a lot. I use to manage a metal roofing company and was also in charge of the safety dept. Trust me I was watching your video very carefully. LOL Very nice install for sure so far now comes the real challenge powering it all up. You are a very smart man and know your stuff so you should have very few challenges. Pretty good install so far. God bless.

What did you think about safety harnesses? I must admit, when I was up on scaffolding/roofs I sometimes found them something of a safety hazard themselves when trying to do stuff, though of course they would have broken a fall in that eventuality.

I found this video very interesting, in that I installed a solar collection set of pannels on a newly constructed home in Bloomington Illinois in 1978. Thies were "hot air" collectors made by a Company called SOLARON ( a company that no longer exists) .I installed them by myself on a two story roof , assisted by a sign company boom truck. The heated air was ducted to a "rock storage heat sink' in the basement. It had a complicated set of controls and I think it was "Semi successful" . Unfortunately, the whole project was abandoned and the house was torn down , so I don't know how well it worked.
