This worked for me using a TX16S, Pixracer FC (old model), Yaapu cable (from Amazon) to connect RX S.PORT to Pixracer Telem2 port, and a Radiomaster FRSKY R161 receiver. Set Serial2_protocol to 10 in Ardupilot parameters, ignore BAUD rate setting, and leave Serial2_options at zero. Do not worry if you don't see many sensors on the TX16S before setting up the scripts, I only saw GPS, the script seems to magically pull the sensors from the MAVLINK stream. I also used this on a setup with a Kakute F7 ardupilot with FRSky receiver and no special cable and it also worked there. Thanks for the help!

Man this is so cool 😎. I followed your instructions for installing the scripts from this video and your instructions on how to setup smartport telemetry on a Pixhawk without an external inverter board from another of your videos, and it worked beautifully. Thanks for your excellent instructions 👍.

Jeez Lee! Me again. I just installed this Lua Telemetry script on my Horus x10s. Once I had smartport working and enabled Telemetry I started getting all these parameters flooding in! Wow! This has to be one of your best shares! It’s the bomb!

Hi, Thanks for the clear explanation of how to load the Lua scripts. Just one thing to add. I fly a Holybro Durandal, with s.port for telemetry back to the receiver. For reasons I dont understand, only GPS sensor shows up on the transmitter when I search for new sensors. I was confused for ages trying to get more sensors to be discovered. However, when I loaded Yaapu, it was fully populated with all the sensor data. No need to try to get all the sensors showing first!! Cheers Jon

Might be useful with DJI goggles that don'e save OSD data (to my knowledge). Offers the possible of determining the lat/long of the crash site. Others have mentioned that a phone can be plugged into the TX16s to directly view the logs. Fascinating as always!

How about a quick video to show how to get into the LUA telemetry menu? I pulled a fair amount of my hair out trying to correctly configure the telemetry once I'd set it up...could be a useful wee video!

Lee I I'm using the same radio as you, loaded with Edge TX and Yaapu, latest versions - when I click on Yaapu's config script, all I see is the word "English" as opposed to the full list of config options. Also, when running Yaapu, I basically see the just the center section of data (the artificial horizon and a few others things), but almost the entire perimeter is mostly blank. I deleted and rediscovered all the sensors - a couple times - and still have the same symptoms (I also redownloaded Yaapu and reinstalled). This was all working fine a couple days ago before I installed EdgeTX.

I feel dumber and dumber. 1.9.6 is also listed on the main Github page. Thing is that's the first link I downloaded, and Yaapu didn't work (who knows why), which is what led me on this odyssey.

Adding on to my comments below there's another thing worth noting. To make Yaapu work using ArduPlane and a FrSky control radio, you have to select ArduPlane's "FrSky pass-through" protocol for the serial port. FrSky has limits on the data that can be sent via sensors. This protocol was written to get around that. One down side is that when you "discover sensors" - the only one that shows up is GPS. None of the others show up because they're passed in a way that's outside the way OpenTx handles sensors. I point this out because the PainLess360 videos make a point of saying that the first step in running Yaapu is to get "lots and lots" of sensors when you do a "discover sensors." This is false in the case of using ArduPlane and the "FrSky Pass-Through" protocol.

@@Painless360 I actually spoke with the fellow who wrote the FrSky Smartport Telemetry Passthrough protocol used in ArduPlane to get telemetry back to Yaapu on FrSky radios - he's the one who explained that the "passthrough" was required to get around the data limitations that OpenTX imposes on sensors. Because the data passed back to the transmitter using the "passthrough" is encapsulated, it doesn't show up when doing "discover sensors." I noticed that there's another generic "passthrough" option on one of the parameters - my guess is that its to be used for CRSF. As it happens, CRSF isn't supported yet on the latest stable release - 4.0.7. Your videos helped me get my EDU-450 off the ground - and I'm extremely appreciative. Some of your information has a few holes in it - which has a good side and a bad side. The bad side is that it takes some digging sometimes to figure out exactly how things work. The good side is that it's the process of digging that really provides an avenue to learn this material. For that - I thank you Mr. Schofield!

Hi Lee, I was trying to assist a friend in putting Lua script on his TX16S. I have done so on my own TX16S, and it works. The difference is that he is running Edge TX 2.7.1., and I am running an older version. The problems arises when we come to the part where we shall populate the widget. On my TX16S it follows your video, but on my friends TX16S we are guided to a menu where is says “Select Widget”. In this menu we can select a lot of items (e.g. timer, output, etc.) but not the Lua script. Do you have any idea how to solve this? Best Ivan

Thanks lee, but I'm still struggling with my Atomrc Dolphin (loaded with iNav6). I'm using a Radiomaster Tx16s with a Radiomaster R161 receiver. The Atomrc F405 NAVI has UART Port 2 for the SBUS from the receiver and the iNav6 configurator shows that all the transmitter channels are working. For telemetry I connected the R161's SPOT "blue" wire to the UART 2 Tx pin. The receiver was "bound" using the option Ch1 - 8 Telem ON, and the iNav6 Configuration Port has both Telemetry Output and Enable CPU based Serial Ports selected. The only telemetry received was the default 4 channels. I have also tried using the UART 3 Tx pin for the receiver SPOT wire, with the Port Telemetry options Disabled, FrSky, or SmartPort. Nothing is working (even after your deleting all sensors "trick"), so have you any suggestions ?

A UART can only do one thing at once. If one is doing SBUS, then you'll need another one to use for the telemetry... Best of luck

I used in my long flight range, when video goes out, there is not way to know what is going on, so you look you radio and you can tell if the plane still flying and where it is because you have the gps in the radio, now when it crash there radio will start vibrating and the voice , telemetry lost, but you have the gps coordinates in the radio where the airplane is with in 10 feets/.

Hi thanks for the video, I got it working this far. The distance however stays on 0 meters no matter how far the plane is away. Because of that the arrow on the little map in the top right hand corner of the screen always stays in the middle. I would appreciate if anybody could help me. Thanks

Hmm... Either I'm doing something wrong - or the slide about Crossfire and MavLink isn't quite right. I have a Quad (a Hexsoon EDU-450) running an Orange Cube and ArduCopter. I have a Crossfire receiver connected to the flight controller via S-Bus. Previously, I've run Yaapu successfully when I used a FrSky receiver and the handy-dandy cable. But adding MavLink to my S-Bus connection on my Crossfire receiver doesn't provide the telemetry sensors required for Yaapu. I looked at the ArduPlane/Matek/Wing build video - mentioned in this video - but found no help there. So if it really is possible to get the proper telemetry back to my TX16S with standard Crossfire transmitter - I'd be be very grateful for some additional guidance on connection and configuration. Many Thanks!

Nothing special you normally need to do but connect the MAVLINK TX and RX signal cables to the pins on the FS that are outputting the MAVLINK signals. ardupilot.org/plane/docs/common-crsf-telemetry.html

Hi Phil, I have finally got telemetry down from a jumper R8 to my tx16s, BUT i have no sensors shown for distance like sensor 0420 and no tilt on display. got compass, battery, altitude, gsp cordinates, mainly want is distance from home. Any ideas. Was going to down load yappu, but if not working complete with inav the I guess it will the same. Regards Dave.

On this video, you said that we really don't need this in order to get telemetry info. Do you have a video that explains how to get telemetry info without LUA?

The LUA script only presents the telemetry received. You can display the telemetry values in a basic form without them. See the setup for the telemetry screens in OpenTX and EdgeTX.. Happy flying

Looking at radios.. thought for Shure radio master t16s. But seems to be allot of little things wrong with.. gets stuck in emergency mode? Sticks are lose? Figured out my aux channels not working on my x-lite..y old ass forgot to add to mix. Lol been a long time.. I just copied my first set up. Lol great vid!!

Does anyone know if I can connect my TX16s to mission planner so I can use the Arduplane telemtry via my R8 instead of having a separate 900mhz radio for the telemetry to the laptop with mission planner? I have this working and it's great, just would like to eleminate the telemetry radio in the plane and still be able to use mission planner real-time.

Thanks for this great video! Do you happen to know what version of OpenTX you were using in this video? I’m trying to install the Yaapu script on a Taranis running OpenTX 2.3.11 and it doesn’t seem to work. I’m wondering if I have to downgrade to a 2.2.x version instead.

Hi I have TX16S using it with H743 FC and I have an issue. When I tilt my FC to the left my graph on the transmitter tilts to the right and when I tilt the FC to the right, the graph shows tilting to the left. Any ideas??

Ive got a Cubepilot on my Quadcopter and Crossfire, TX16s, and Bi-directional telemetry, my direction arrow appears to be incorrect in the Yaapu Script.. any thoughts?

HELP!!!! I deleted sensors but when I went to "discover new sensors" nothing happened. I've tried multiple times and still nothing. Using TX16s with IFlight Nazgul5 4s analogue XM+ receiver.

If it can't see the sensors then check the flight controller settings and telemetry wiring back to the RX.. Best of luck

I just purchased a boxer radio (4 in 1 with external ranger elrs module). When I drag and drop the iNav lua files onto the SD card I’m getting an error message. Any advice much appreciated!

Hi Lee, what is the baud rate did you use for your model? I found a weird thing that when the baud rate for external crossfire TX is equal to or smaller than 400K, the telemetry data won't fully show on the screen. Only part of data was there. But if I increased the baud rate more than 400K, then the issue disappeared... Not sure what is the cause... I tried deleted and discovered sensors, but the issue persists...

I've never had to change any setting on the radio for Crossfire. I only use it on EdgeTX radios though... Happy flying

I've not tried it on the latest EdgeTX. It may be a setting or bug. I'd let them know in case it is a bug. Best of luck

Hello Lee. I have been using this on my OpenTx configuration without any problems (since you last helped me) but having spent the last two days trying to help a club member configure his system I have an issue that I hope you can resolve. His transmiter is a Radiomaster TX16s MkII running EdgeTx v2.10.1 and the telemetry is all being received OK. I can only find one set of iNav Telemetry files to download (the same one I use for my OpenTx configurations) and that has installed OK on his EdgteTX transmitter but although the basic widget window is displayed a lot of text is missing. For example the gauge headings are not displayed, and as soon as the GPS gets a "lock" the GPS coordinates vanish (displayed in a colour you can't see ?). Do you know of a solution to this, or have I installed the wrong iNav LUA telemetry "system" for EdgeTx ?

Check for an update to the widget. Some older versions won't work on the latest EdgeTX. Please let your flying buddy know about my videos too... Happy flying!

Once more you have shown me a useful tool, thanks. Being old I shall watch this a few times ...and still get it wrong but everthing is backed up. The lzsest version of open TX seems to have a big, seems I get a throttle warning on startup, the a fail safe alarm ...why ? Recibrated sticks still get warning ? Take care.

I have a Radiomaster TX16S paired with and X8R. I am trying to use the Yapuu script with an Arducopter Cube Orange. I am not getting the long list of sensors shown in the video. I am using a Craft and Theory cable in the Smartport. Do I need to download both scripts mentioned in your video? Am I missing an update? Any help would be great! Thx.

Hi, i have small problem with yaapu script and Frsky archer rs. Do you know how i can get tellemetry from it? I have tried many seeting Sport/Fport different serial ports. Nothing change. When i use frsky rx6r everything works well.

just installed the INAV lua and everything is working 100%...thanks! is it possible for this to make changes to other screens? My radio timer activated by the throttle used to be black numbers on a white background, now it's dim white numbers on a white background, very hard to see. How do I get it back? or change colors. Crossfire/tx16s

Does anyone have their Crossfire working fully with Yaapu? The roll, pitch, and yaw graphical gauge does not respond to any physical changes in the orientation of my flight controller. I can see the corresponding telemetry values refreshing properly on the model telemetry page as I move my flight controller around. Furthermore, there is a flashing NO GPS error and NO TELEM error message in the upper right, even though I can clearly see GPS coordinates appearing in the lower right section of the Yaapu widget. I am using a Matek H743 running ArduPlane V4.1.0dev (acfdf6a3) and a crossfire diversity receiver with SERIAL_7_PROTOCOL=23, and RC_OPTIONS=256. On my Radiomaster TX16S transmitter, I tried running various versions of the Yaapu script starting with the older “horus_crsf_190b_0.7” up to the current "FrskyTelemetryScript-Horus-Widget-1.9.5-beta1". I ensured that CRSF is turned on in the Yaapu config. I'm not sure if CRSF is supported, that this is a bug or my user error. I have my CRSF receiver wired to Tx6/Rx6 (Serial 7) of the Matek H743. The receiver is configured with CRSF TX and CRSF RX on outputs 1 and 2 respectively. I also have another 2 outputs of the crossfire diversity receiver connected to SERIAL 2 with the Mavlink version 2 protocol running on those outputs. I've tried with and without Mavlink. I've tried a combination of outputing PPM for control and Mavlink for telemetry. I can't for the life of me get this to work. I've also tried both Yaapu with EdgeTX and OpenTX, crossfire running at 150hz or 50hz. Nothing :-(

@@Painless360 I finally resolved my issue here. Lee, in your diagram, you suggested setting Crossfire to use SBUS out and MAVLINK back into the FC. Since Ardupilot has evolved since then, I think it would be better for users to simply use CRSF_TX and CRSF_RX. That said, you must use an Ardupilot version with Crossfire support. No need (at least that I can find) for Mavlink. This worked for me, but there are some very important gotchas that I think many Crossfire users will overlook: 1) Firstly users must consider what UART they are using. I had my crossfire connected to a UART which certainly works for Crossfire RC control and allows telemetry, however it would not work with the Yaapu widget. That is because the UART port does not have Direct Memory Access (DMA) with my flight controller (the Matek H743 Wing). I could only get the Yaapu widget to successfully work moving and connecting my CRSF_TX and CRSF_RX wires to SERIAL1 (UART port TX7 & TX7) or connecting them to SERIAL2 (UART port TX1 & TX2). By default, the Matek flight controller documentation suggests using UART 6 (as they label it “RC input receiver”). The only UARTs that should be used for RC control and successful use of the Yaapu widget (for this FC) is UART 7 or UART 1 (those have DMA). There is no need to set any extra outputs of your Crossfire receiver to use Mavlink. 2) I noticed that another user on a blog made another mistakes of mine. Alex (Yaapu) told me, I must set Ardupilot RC_OPTIONS = current value + 256. I thought I did that. Instead what I was doing was heading to the “options” under the serial settings section… I was incorrectly setting SERIAL7_OPTIONS to its current value + 256 and not setting “RC_OPTIONS” to its current value + 256. I realize this is really old - but thanks again Lee! I've decided to finally add TX telemetry for iNav and Ardu. RM TX16s, latest edge, followed all of the installation notes. I select a new telemetry page with full screen - but when I pick either widget I get an error saying "Full screen required". Any ideas?

Hi, thank you for you videos, so much help. I have a problem with Taranis X9 lite... Opening Open TX companion 2.3.14, i dont have the box to mark LUAC, so yaapu lua is not working. Actually any luas are working.. do you know how I could solve it? thank you!!

I'd check the release notes for that version of Opentx as LUAc may be included in the firmware automatically now... Best of luck

Hi and thanks for the video, with the lua script I am getting warnings of low battery and altitude. I do know how to change it on a Taranis but can’t find the screen on the Radiomaster. Can you refer me to a video or show me the page on the radio please.

I am using arduplane will it work properly?? Actually mine one is working but horizons is working very slow and most of the values is absent,I discovered several time by deleting sensors

Hey! anyone know if with lua you can take the telemetry and push it out the USB or out a wifi port to be interfaced with a computer? trying to make a little program that wants the gps data, but would be great not to use mavlink for a more plug-and-play feel

Quick question. I am trying to install the Inav lua script to the TX16S and i have it on the SD card. I go into the telemetry page and I have all 23 sensors registering, but they are slow in feedback. Movement of the board stuff. I go into the SCRIPTS section of the SDcard and select to execute the Inav.lua and get (attempt to call a nil value ?:0) not a nice Inav telemetry screen. Do you know what the problem may be??

At 13:42 you speak of sorting out sensors if they are not discovered. I cannot discover anything more than basic crossfire information, as a result my teletry widget is 100% still. Tried everything - different software, receivers etc. Could you share what exact version of software did you use in this video for FC and TX? My radio is a Jumper T16 and I'm getting really frustrated by not being able to make it work. However on my quad with BF4.2 this widget works flawlessly.

The latest version although I've not struggled here to get it to work with different versions. I'd suspect the settings or wiring on the model .. best of luck!

@@Painless360 Figured it out - UART TX and RX mixed. RC worked somehow but no telemetry went back. Rewired and it works like a charm. Only the fuel sensor gave me headaches, but I found out how to calibrate it (default was 1500 mAh while I fly with 4600 mAh packs)

This has been VERY useful information. I have one question, Followed all your steps read all the required reading and when I discover new devices they all have asterisks by them and some are flashing. What does that mean? P. S. I am using a TX16s.

Hello can you help me out with my issue? .. So just a days back I tried to install yaapu on frsky qx7 accst model. But after installing it can't run on my radio, it simply says, "script panic not enough memory". What should I do? am I missing some steps..... Note. I used open tx 2.3.15 and yaapu version 1.9.5.

The EEPROM storage used for models and the memory that things like LUA scripts use are not the same thing. Make sure that no other LUA scripts are running at the same time and if the issue persists then log a bug report in the GitHub pages.. Best of luck!

You need the telemetry on the radio for those scripts to work. Still not sure what you're asking. You want the same detail on an inav model?

great video! i got it working. but... how do I turn off (or set a new value) for telemetry low battery alarm? I believe it's default is 14v. I am running 4s but LiIon, so i would like to have it either off of set to 12v. Is that possible? if so, how? thanks in advance!

Hi, I have a RX Jumper R1 + plus and I would like to use yaapu script with FC omnibus F4 nano V6.0 (fw arducopter 4.0.4) and radiomaster with original FW I need the outpus on S.port and therefore with F4 a non-inverting pad on the rx. I connected the serial of the FC to the central pin of U5 (pin 2), but I cannot read the telemetry data on S.port. On the RX I have not updated the FW. What can I try? Thanks

Hi Lee great video. I have a Jumper t18 with the latest tbs nightly build of opentx, the crossfire firmware is the latest also. I do run the latest inav lua script and see all my sensors but notice a "glitch" when powering up my wing. The battery percentage will start at 100% then immediately drop to 0%. If I power cycle my radio while the wing is still running it then shows correctly. I have double checked the battery/voltage settings that the lua recommends in the wiki. I have also tested this with different battery voltages and they display correctly after the radio power cycles. Not sure whats going on. I did notice that you don't use percentage for the fuel on the drak but mah. Any reason behind this? How does it work different to the percentage?

@@Painless360 Fixed it, crossfire nano was sending the rx voltage and not the fc voltage. A Crossfire update fixed it.

@@Painless360 sorry, I've been on a short hiatus and have come back mid way through this frsky rx debacle. Rather than trying to aquire suitable rx that still functions with my current equipment i was looking to move to a whole new radio setup and was looking at the TX16s and crossfire as an upgrade from QX7+R9, since I'm also looking to move away from inav/beta flight to ardupilot for more robust mapping applications I was also looking at telemetry control capabilities. I could be misquoting now, please put me straight if I am!... but, It was suggested of moving to an 868Mhz rf modem such as the "RFD868 TXMOD" which is capable of doing everything in one package ie. Radio control, telemetry control and video feed all back to the tx and then WiFi to a laptop ground station. All the goodness without using 2 or 3 separate systems.

The iNav Lua Telemetry script does work with BetaFlight via Crossfire on my 5”. But you may run out of memory on some radios if you run the BF lua script and iNav Telemetry at the same time. I find it handy if flying LOS without googles/osd.

Thanks for video, I followed your steps more than once but when i try to select inav in telemetry menu it says inav disabled I rechecked settings in inav all telementery tabs turned on, in radio in model menu im showing all sensors live data.
