Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzbin.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

A 6 to 15 hour evacuation on a home system is ridiculous. Watch his face as he's trapped into something he knows is BS. On a 3 ton 2000 sq ft home you can pull vacuum down to 500 microns (EPA rule) in as quickly as 15 minutes using good equipment. Check for any rise between 500 and 1000 microns within the next 10 minutes. Basically if no leaks and no residual water/ice in system, you're done in 25 minutes. But the main point is he should have done a pressure test with nitrogen FIRST. He did the nitrogen pressure test AFTER the evac showed a leak which was a total waste of evacuation time. Under nitrogen pressure, check your connections with bubble juice for leaks. No loss of pressure, no bubbles, means no leaks. Vacuum the system, release the charge, fine tune pressure/temp, and your done.

Just have to say, I’m slightly suspicious of anything that seems so cut and dry in every situation, or of super confident promoters of such methods. A lot of us have seen enough projects to know nothing is perfectly cut and dry.
@KevFlaAVCHD
@KevFlaAVCHD 5 жыл бұрын
I agree with you that nothing is perfectly "cut and dry", and nothing in life is 100% either. Some systems may require more effort to evacuate, maybe up to 1.5 hours, worst case scenario. Here is a link to a professional HVAC tech vacuuming a residential system with a 50 ft line set and reaching 500 microns in under 3 minutes. Then you can decide if I'm "super confident" or just stating plain and simple fact. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYq9aYqrmdCmmJI

Great video and very informative. However, if Brad was installing this unit properly he would have used nitrogen initially as per the Mitsubishi installation manual and stepped down the vacuum which would probably have reduced the potential for ice buildup. www.ecomfort.com/manuals/mzgeinstall.pdf Brad may do some things better than most contractors, but he makes the same mistake as 99% of them. They do not bother to read and follow instructions or manufacturers recommendations, which are typically necessary for product warranties.

I have worked extensively with vacuum systems. A flush with dry nitrogen does a very good job of drying lines. Not on par with a 'bake out' but you can get most of the moisture out. The moisture is adsorbed on the inside of the hoses, so removing the air is really not enough.
@sprockkets
@sprockkets 4 жыл бұрын
Mitsubishi's install guidelines are severely outdated. A nitrogen pressure test is good to test for leaks. However, Mitsubishi's guidelines were made with the assumption of micron gauges from like almost 20 years ago, where their resolution is around 100, and vacuum pumps that were single stage. Today you can get ones that have .1 resolution, and I achieved a 46 micron vacuum using TruBlu hoses, and a decay to 72 after ten minutes. At those levels, there is no need for a "triple evac" because you can't get 46 micron vacuums if moisture was present.
@osiel9203

If nylog is present use it for joints Nitrogen should have been used first, bubble leak detect it second And then finally evacuate. Proper procedure will save time.

Brad seems like he's on the ball. I would recommend to him to start pulling through appion crt tool and always pull the shrader cores. If it really takes him 6 hours to pull a vac that is really too long. Also since it is a heat pump you really shouldn't call either line the suction line because in heat the small line is still a liquid line and the large is discharge line

It's not a suction line either. It's an expansion line. It's still thin to make sure it doesn't expand that much after the EEV. Also, sure, in heat mode, it is the discharge line. But that's not specific to a mini split as normal heat pumps work that way.

This is how to properly pull a vacuum to remove moisture from an HVAC system 10 times faster. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3ivinSjn7yerKM Brad is using 1/4" hoses(too small) and yellow non vacuum rated hoses. The yellow hose is probably why he suspected a leak because they are permeable and will simulate a leak unde deep vacuum (500 microns). Typically the non permeable hoses are black or braided stainless steal. Brad still performed better than 90% of other HVAC techs www.trutechtools.com/Vacuum-Training_c_1100.html

If you read the installation instructions from Mitsubishi, they say to nitrogen purge the lines twice, once from 4000 microns to atmospheric, again from 1500 microns to atmospheric. I'm trying to figure out if I can get away without buying nitrogen, just pull a solid really good vacuum and hold it for days to let the moisture evaporate. But after watching this, maybe I'll try to find some nitrogen.

This might sound strange I work on air conditioning 25 years most the time I did not use nitrogen most mechanics are in too big a hurry if you have that kind of setup that he has with a micron gauge I believe in go down to about 800 no moisture 😋you won't have to worry about leak checking anything but there is a lot of guys that don't have one the main thing is the let that set in a vacuum if you don't have micron gauge that needle on your gauges better not move , they recommend that you triple evacuate it that means evacuate putting in nitrogen dump nitrogen 3 time that is before they had micron gauge

I also never had an a/c fail later when a evacuation was performed. Apparently these home a/c compressors are different and I did not know that you could not tell the state of charge on a unit with and electronic expansion valve using a/c gauges... Update: I looked it of and it's simply a "It is a very fine measurement that provides very detailed results" Meaning it's a much more sensitive method than ready vacuum with a gauge set...

Is this unit still functioning and in good order? Curious about the maintenance since install, and if there were any issues with this unit in particular. I have one of these myself and unfortunately have a few negative things that I'm experiencing. 1. Blower wheel bearing went out relatively quickly (within a year) and is rather noisy now. 2. During colder days (30°F or less) there is an intermittent high frequency sounding noise when the heat pump is on, almost squealing, like when air is slowly let out of a pinched balloon. Certain it's not motor related though. Any info or reference would be very helpful.

In addition to a 150psi pressure test with dry nitrogen we also perform a proper vacuum on every system we install using a proper micron gauge, proper vacuum rated hoses, proper vacuum rated core removers, seal every connection with Nylog sealant and used a 6cfm SuperEvac pump. Every system gets pulled to less than 300 microns and this will very rarely take more than 10-15 mins. Good job overall! Have Brad check this out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3ivinSjn7yerKM

Noe Flores look at multi zone mini splits your going to need a mini split of minimum 36k BTU but 42 will be best there will be one outdoor unit and 1 indoor unit per room some can have up to 5 indoor units per outdoor unit but on systems this large due to the amount of line set your going to need extra refrigerant as the company only puts enough for a certain amount of line set only enough for 1 unit at a certain length
@noeflores5794

HERPY DERPEDY Good point! Have to figure in the cost of the extra refrigerant as I would probably need 5 mini's on 1 outdoor unit. Since this would be a passive home. It's going to be very air tight so I'm trying to figure out if an HRV or an ERV is over kill. Thanks again!

Installation manual must have been overlooked, not supposed to trap condensate line on ductless unit. You have double trapped the condensate line which will cause an air lock resulting in a water leak at indoor unit.
@HomePerformance

Nope, we just wanted it air and bug tight at the outside end. And nope, no water leak problems- I don’t think this condensate line has a trap in it at all unless you add one- the pan runs straight into the pipe, no trap built in at the factory.

I install Mitsubishi mini splits for a living in fact I've installed hundreds of them and you absofuckinlutley can install them in the rain. as long as you do a triple evac and as an added sure fire way to not have moisture in the lines is to make all flare connections except for the liquid line at the out door unit and blast out the moisture with dry nitrogen then connect and tighten. pressure check to over 600psig then let out all but a couple psig of the nitrogen then start evacuating the lines and do a triple evac.

Your explanation about being able to check for a correct charge after it is running is incorrect. You can use temperature to check if it is correct. As long as it can be run at full load 100%. I have done this with large R2 Mitsubishi systems. The same would apply on the small ones as well, but will agree the best way is to weigh in the listed charge this also takes away fractionalization issues if there was a leak and you were topping up the charge.
@HomePerformance
@HomePerformance 5 жыл бұрын
I believe Brad was referring to the difference between a minisplit and full split being there’s not a true superheat and subcooling attainable at the same points in the lineset. So you could get temps, yes, but what to compare them to?
@jeffscanlan3554
@jeffscanlan3554 5 жыл бұрын
Home Performance Manufacturers specs on what those temps should be at the sensors in the unit under full load for that specific unit. Just stating that it can be done as I have just installed a large R2 Mitsubishi system and temp checks are what they use to check final charge. The job I was on had 3000ft of piping total on 7 different systems. And pressure testing is what should be done prior to any evacuation at 600 psi manufacturers spec.
