Inspector by me also gave me a problem with that wire. Doesn't want it running in attics or in sealtight. But he turned me onto using 14-3 uf outdoor romex. Its 10 times cheaper and can be run anywhere and in sealtight. $83 for a 250ft roll last forever compared to about $50 for 50 ft of that mini split wire. Nice job Ralph

Nice tip on the 14-3 uf. Honestly, I don't see a problem with the mini split wire in sealtite. It's not lamp cord.

Do you always braze mini split line sets. I always thought that the line sets on a mini splits were charged with freon from the factory.

Nice job! Only thing I would do differently is that I would start charging with the micron gauge in place. When it read over atmospheric pressure I would remove it. That way I loose just a bit of refrigerant vs adding just a bit of air.

Im from the netherlands... and we NEVER flare ever we always braze and im looking at these american techs all flaring and im still amazed most of the techs there are still flaring there i find flares so weak and they can so easily leak compared to brazing.. even on school where we learn the job they barely learn flaring

What size Allen wrench does service valve take? A 3/16 doesn't fit. I specifically ask a supply house for the adapter to open the valve. I didn't look at it close as I was in a hurry. When I went to use it it wouldn't fit, turns out it was a 3/16. I know not all of them are different but Mitsubishi is..

If brazing on a mini split voids the warranty, then I guess I shouldn’t have replaced the EEV or compressor on some units lol. Better question is why do they have these parts for warranty replacement?

Is there a Need for the Flares at the outdoor Unit Can these ever be Brazed... Clearly you would need a Different Fitting at the Unit Which in turn answers the question ! Thanks for posting

Nice install. I don't usually do these so it was a good refresher course. Going to do one of these tomorrow, definitely will be brazing those evap connections in and will be mindful of the bad factory flares at the condenser. Also going to use the swaged 1/2" pvc trick. I assume the normal bell-end is too big?

My friend needs the inside unit replaced due to a crack/leak. The company is quoting $1,500 to remove the existing wall part of the unit and replace it. Unit is covered under warranty. What would you estimate the level of effort to be? Price sound fair? Based on your video, I think they need to drain the coolant, cut a hole in the wall to get to the wiring, drain, and copper pipes, remove existing unit, hang new unit, make connections, recharge system, and patch the drywall. Great videos! Thanks.

I have a 1500 sq.ft. house with a 500 sq.ft. garage attached built in 2001. My wife parks her car in one half of the garage and I use the other half as my shop, would it be feasible to condition the air in the garage and inside the house using a multi zone mini split unit? I live in central Indiana so do you think I should keep the furnace for when it gets really cold?

Good video as usual Ralph but a question comes to mind...would you braze that line set if the evaporator unit was mounted on an interior wall rather than an exterior wall. Most of your install videos are done directly to an exterior wall, which is ideal and necessary but what's your thought when the wall mounted unit is on an interior wall where the line set would then have to run maybe five to ten feet to get to an exterior wall?

Ralph, I'm installing a MSZ-GE18NA , I've cut the line set length to 10 feet, which is what it looks like you did on this install. Did you compensate the factory charge at all for the shorter line set? Will they run fine with the factory charge at a 10 ft. line length? Thanks, for any input on this issue.

Finally got it up and running. The only delays we had was because we realized we needed some extra parts (I’ll list that below) kzbin.infoUgkxihMYiJNXcHdbH-7ihymsLz61l7jVyb5O . So we have a loft where our current hvac just couldn’t seem to keep cool during the summer. We have been using a window unit since we bought this house over 6 years ago (all the houses in this neighborhood were built in the 80’s and majority of the houses built like ours use a window unit). I hate window units because they are just so noisy and the one we had really only cools one side of the loft. I had contemplated upgrading our current HVAC, but with all the rising prices these days, it would take years before saving up enough to do that. With the advice of my father-in-law (used to run an HVAC business), he recommended we get an inverter instead. We thought we bought everything we needed, but there were just a few other parts we didn’t anticipate needing (which is what caused most of our delay). My friend and father-in-law did all the work to get it installed and running and now we have nice cool air circulating nicely throughout the entire loft. It is very quiet and even the outside unit is much quieter than our main HVAC unit. Saved ourselves thousands getting this.
