Hello Mike, Thanks again for a very detailed VIDEO This particular one emphasizes just how Different an ENGINE & Transmission installation is ... between the older Flathead / Knucklehead, Panhead, Shovelhead is & the RUBBER MOUNT - EVO - FXR's & DYNA's that I struggle with - LOL Thanks for the DEMONSTRATION COOP .........................................
@pacificmike95014 жыл бұрын
FXR and Dyna, I use two jacks. I lift the engine and trans both until they CAREFULLY align. Then, CAREFULLY align, install engine bolts at the back of the engine and, of course at front onto mount. So, with the front mount loose and the pivot bolt in at the rear of the trans, install the inner primary housing, again, carefully aligning. Tighten it all up a little at a time. Not fun, but not real hard.

Lookn good Mike, most people don't understand that during custom build, you build the bike 4 times before it is done, blown apart for paint and final assembly. I am your age, back in the day we yarded out shovels and Evos in one piece, TC88's were a back breaker, call over the young buck, and the Vrods, crap, get a hoist! At the factory, we used an engine cradle, a jack up hand truck and special engine stand for those big Vrod motors, can't say I miss any of it now. My 1984 XR1000 is all I have left from HD, fun fact, Mike did you know the XR was the first harley model to use the semi torquefree front brake calipers? That caliper was used across the board on all Harley models for years. Stay safe from Seattle
@pacificmike95014 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Information I didn't know. I do know that I'd rather put any lower end in the frame without a scratch. Then I install the topend. That XR should be fun. To quote the great Burt Monroe, " I didn't build it to stop." Just kidding. I like good brakes.

That is beautiful Mike, a little tip for you, have you thought about welding the two together or just smooth them on the inside, then you can widen it just a little so that it is not so visible, and at the same time increase the volume for longer runs, so you don't have to look for a gas station all the time, just a thought.
@pacificmike95014 жыл бұрын
Not a bad idea. Volume should be okay. Going to eliminate the the oil tank wall. It will be all gasoline. There are some other things coming up that may necessitate the tanks staying split. I don't know that it will all work the way I want, but thanks for the suggestions.

I love your channel Mike - yes, I did subscribe and click the notification bell - I also love this particular project and the calm demeanor in which you work and talk about your steps. Awesome. Do you ever allow a local knucklehead to visit and talk bikes? I would let you take a spin on my '01 fxst, Merlin, which is gorgeous and a very nice ride - he is real fine running near stocker.

Thank You. I don't give out my address, but I get to see a lot of folks at the Long Beach Swap meet most monthly occurances.

Great videos !! How will you treat the cylinders ? What kind of paint and how ? Thank you ! Greatings from Norway
@pacificmike95014 жыл бұрын
Thank You. The cylinders are cast iron. I do all cast iron cylinders the same. The only variation seems to be gloss or semi-gloss. I always do them black. I heat them in the oven, load the paint on and stick them back in the oven to bake for awhile.

K models are very cool. Not sure I'd like one as a daily rider though. You've been able to ride that Sportster as much as you want.

Thank you. We tried some combinations. This is the best we can get so far. For amateurs, we're doin' alright.
