I had a total IMS failure at 20k on my ‘05 Base Boxster. I’m the original owner and knew about IMS, changed oil every 3k, and would cut the filter open and look for metal. About 1k after my last oil change…total failure. Porsche said too bad so sad…because they didn’t do the oil changes. Sent the car to Jake and it was a great experience, and they installed the IMS Solution, they took pictures, videos etc and gave them to me. I still have the car and I swear it runs WAY better then when I was new. Thanks for these videos, and I have to thank Jake for fixing this problem.

Had the IMS Solution installed on my 996 by a certified installer not long after I bought it. The certified installer program is great because they run through a checklist assessing the overall health of the engine. One major thing is looking bore scoring from the sump. Of course I did tons of other maintenance while the transmission was out. Now I’m driving my early build ‘99 somewhat worry free. Emphasis on somewhat 🤣

I installed the IMS Solution on our 2003 Boxster S in 2016. Tony Calles at Callas Rennsport in Torrance, CA installed ours. He said the engine was pretty much bullet proof after the upgrade! No issues since installation.

It’s a crime that Porsche got away with building a car that self destructs when driven. Now customers have to pay big bucks to fix a problem no car should have.

Question about flywheel bolt torque. It looks like they were torqued to an initial torque and then an additional 90 degrees. I thought 120 degrees? Thank you for any information.

At 41:49. Porsche placed internal freeze plugs under the camshafts. My 986 had an internal freeze plug failure that flooded the engine with coolant and made the milk shake of death. Ruined the engine. Low miles, super well maintained.

At 17:52, I see what looks to be a sliver of aluminum; is that common? You stated it was from the bushing. Was the bushing lubed prior to driving it home? Thanks.
@PorscheClubofAmericaАй бұрын
That material was a result of the bushing fitting the housing with high precision and is common. The bushing is not lubricated prior to installation into the shaft. This is due to the temperature differences that are used to shrink the bushing for fitment. Due to the filming the bushing was allowed to warm up slightly more than would be optimal, so the fit was a little tighter than normal.

These videos scary me, maybe I should just sell my car. 😮
