In this video I show the installation of the insulation on the floors of the 71 C3 Corvette. I will also be adding insulation to the doors for sound deadening. The company I purchased the insulation from is called Insulation4less. Their website is: insulation4less.com

I’ll use this in my 71 project. I think the R-value is over 20 with two layers, which should work great. I also got the insulated carpet lining, so that’s another layer for heat and sound.

It is definitely an economical alternative to some of the vehicle specific products that are out there. Let me know how it works for you. Thanks for watching our channel.

This is a great video. Thanks! I have been working with a premade material for the firewall, and it is thick and cumbersome. I was looking for a better solution. So glad I found your channel!

So it's not necessary to go all the way back with the insulation into the storage area where the dome light is?

Welcome to the channel. I just traded a 2016 F150 for a 2016 Chevy Silverado. I needed something with a V8. Hated to give up my ford tho.

@@timewiththedurbins How are you liking the Silverado? Never had any luck with new age Chevys after 100k miles. Even had the driveshaft completely fail on me on a Silverado which I didnt think was possible

Our truck has around 88k miles and so far I have not any issues with it. I like the way it drives and rides. Hopefully we will have better luck than you had with yours. Only time and miles will tell. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for watching and for your comments. They are greatly appreciated.

Mark, got a question for you on running your insulation up to the heater box. I know there are 3 rubber plugs right below that to hold the factory insulation in place. Did you leave the plugs in place and lay your insulation uo over those plugs? BTW your videos are very helpful so thanks for sharing.

Yes. I left the plugs in place and placed the insulation over them. Thanks for watching. I'm glad my video was helpful for you.

Did you struggle to find the holes for the sears etc? I made holes as I went. Looks great!
@timewiththedurbins
@timewiththedurbins 3 ай бұрын
I did the same thing. I added holes as I went along. After I laid the insulation down, I would feel for the holes and then take an awl and poke it through the insulation into the hole. I would take my utility knife and cut around the awl until the hole was exposed.

Hi Sir I love your content. I'd like your opinion on which brand of interior plastic coating matches the best. My car is a 1977 with buckskin.

The stuff I use and really like is made by Corvette America. You can purchase it through any Corvette parts supply company. I purchase most of my parts from Zip Corvette. Their prices are very competitive, and their shipping costs are reasonable. They sell the Corvette America brand Dye.

Any guess to how much it drops the temp by?
@timewiththedurbins
@timewiththedurbins 2 жыл бұрын
I can't really say how much it drops the temperature inside the car but I think it is very noticeable. When I put my hand on the floor where the exhaust would be it is just a little above ambient temperature. My first C3 was a 1979 and I did not use this on it and when I put my hand on the floor it was a lot hotter than the ambient temperature. The 79 did have a catalytic converter so it had more heat build up under the car than a 1971 would have. I don't know how much difference that would make but I'm sure it was measurable. There are probably products that are superior to this one on the market but at a higher price.

Once the carpet goes in does it slide on this material?
@timewiththedurbins
@timewiththedurbins 3 ай бұрын
My carpet does not move around at all. It is held in place by the seats, door sill plates and center console.

Would it be better to use insulation on the floor or to refiberglass
@timewiththedurbins
@timewiththedurbins 8 ай бұрын
Not sure what you mean by re-fiberglass. On the older C3s the floorpans are fiberglass and on the newer ones they are steel. I would not think you would want to add additional fiberglass to either one.

looks like the minimum they sell is 500 square feet definitely don't need that much. EDIT: Although after looking further I did find 200 square feet for sale for some types of their insulation

I don't remember how big the roll was that I purchased but this is the second C3 that I have used it on and I still have enough left for at least one more car.
