Keith, I’ve been running the reckless 80 v3 on my 500 for the last year and half. It’s a great system and I love it. I’ve got rack system as well from True North Moto in the states that’s built for the reckless and adds additional stability and strength to the 500 subframe. Great review mate.

I checked with them but they don't do one for the 2017-2019 models. Something about a different subframe setup.

I cut down all the mounting straps so only had a little bit to fold back on it self. They are all replaceable so if you change bikes you can get more. Love the idea of swapping out the bar to get a better shape.

Hey Keith, I have been using the Mosko Moto R40 on my last couple of 500’s for many years. I also recently changed to the R80 for the same reason and have been very happy. You may want to consider replacing the leg mounting straps with Voile/Versa straps which have a little give but also remain under tension. The MM guys are also doing this themselves. I was concerned longer term about the weight on the relatively weak sub frame, didn’t like the exhaust heat shield and that it used to wear away at the underside of the R40, and also didn’t like the way the bag mounted on the bike with the need to drill holes in the plastic (I broke a rear fender during a lay down with the R40 with the cleats mounted through holes in the rear fender). I contacted George at Globetrotting in the US and he made me up a nice, relatively light (albeit expensive with exchange rate and delivery) rack which I’m really happy with. The bag mounts great to the rack, no need for the heat shield, the weight is supported off the sun frame. Anyway, feel free to message if you want some photos/video call. Off topic, but if you haven’t already, check out the Motominded rally kit. Top quality, screen and lights are great, and great for mounting gps, switches etc, and speedo is mounted where you can actually see it. Thanks again for the videos. Be great to catch up someday for a ride.

@@keithjob hey Keith, I told him the model bike and that I wanted it for an R80. The only change that I’d recommend would be to get him to put the nut for the front mounting cleat another 50 - 75mm further down towards the front mounting point. With the bags mounted all the way back the cleats only sit just in front of the front leg of the bag with minimal clearance.

Hi Keith. One of the few videos which show a comparison of 40s with the 80s on the bike - thank you👍🏼👍🏼Now that youve had the 80s for a while, would you mind letting me know if you now think the 40s are too small, or the 80s too big / heavy for Enduro touring? What's your preference current day? All the best, Stevie (Scotland)
@keithjob

Personally I like the 80's. Especially with the Globetrottin' rack. The physical volume of the suits my gear better... the 40's were too small for me.
@stevia13
@stevia13 7 ай бұрын
Thanks for that Keith. I'm thinking of putting the Adventure Spec aside racks on to a Huski 701 - I was concerned that the side bags on the 80s would hang to low, and that the 80 system would weigh what's supposed to be a light bike down too much!!?

@@stevia13 I didn't get the lower pockets on the 80's. so no, they don't hang too low.

Have you had any subframe durability issues running these larger bag systems and when loading it down with all of that gear? I'm sure it's better now with the Globetrottin rack but any issues prior to the rack?

Hey Keith I have a 2019 500 here in Australia and I’m looking at putting on an fmf can. Just wondering if you have an idea on if the European bikes need to have the after market ecu since they aren’t choked up like the us models. Can’t seem to find info on this. Or if you can simply put one on and have no dramas.
@keithjob
@keithjob Жыл бұрын
G'day Jacko, great question. The ECU in EU and AU models is very different to US. But still, you're changing the pipe so maybe you should get the ECU tuned to suit. Have a chat to Vortex (in Kilsyth, Vic) - their ECU does have a specific FMF map, but I don't know if you *actually* need it.

Love the setup Keith and looking to do a similar build. I'm a newer rider and considering a 350 exc-f over a WR250R to replace my road Duke 390, any recommendations?
@keithjob
@keithjob Жыл бұрын
A lot of people love the 350 EXC-F as an ultra-light ADV base. I suggest ride both the 350 and WR and see what you think. The WR is a super-solid bike and cheap to buy; I've owned the WR but switched to the 500EXC for its power 😍.

Hi Keith thanks for the video, I am in the process of selecting a luggage system and not decided yet, so this video is very helpful. However I have question about how you mount the bike I.e. how do you get on the bike with the luggage on? Are you tall enough to to just swing your leg over or do you get on first by standing on the footpeg withe stand down? If you do the latter my concern is would the stand break, if not initially, maybe after a few mounts? Would appreciate your feedback on your experience please?
@keithjob

either or. but usually swing a leg over. Bag on top does make it difficult.

Sale Keith, mi chiamo Massimiliano e scrivo dall'Italia. Ti ringrazio anticipatamente.
@keithjob
@keithjob Жыл бұрын
Hi.The choice may depend on the size of your camping kit. Eg. if you have a large tent and sleeping bag, the 80 would be better. But if you have a very small tent and lightweight sleeping bag, the 40 may work. The pockets on the 40's are very small; my actual camping gear does not fit inside them and it goes into a roll bag on top. Thus the 80's are better for my camping setup.

Hey mate, Just wondering how tall you are and inseam length vs the height of the 500. Have you lowered it at all?… I read they have a 38” seat height which concerns me as a 5’8 lad with a 32” inseam haha. I would like to touch the ground a bit rather than becoming a comedy show haha.
