I believe I have found the best KZbin teachers of every trade. You are now my electrical teacher, and I am very picky! Electrical is admittingly my weak spot, so I am extremely grateful to have you aboard. Thank you very much sir, you explain things in a way that I only have to run through my head a few times, instead of several more and still not get it! God bless you!!

@@theinternetelectrician ...I am very glad to hear that! Gonna focus more on electrical so I acquired your fundamentals course which I have already began. For the price I paid I consider it a great value to lay the foundation of the basics. I realize their is a lot more to it then that, so much more study and hands on required, but again establishes a great foundation to continue from. For the reasonable low cost, anybody who dares to complain about it in any way is simply looking for something for free. Well the real world doesn't work that way! I hope you enjoy each and every day, thanks again!

My previous Thermostat had O/B, so when I went to install NEST I ran O/B to O/B but all I got was cold air. After 3 hours of trying to figure it out I saw your video and saw you plugged it into the W. I was so ticked off lol. But thank you for the help, you helped take care of my wife and kids last night while its 19° F outside.

Hi there Terry peterman, I’m Jon! Is it possible using a Nest thermostat that I could somehow use it to hookup to a120 volt and 15 or 20 amps as a line volt and transforming high voltage to low voltage and low voltage to high voltage using transformers? The other type I’ve heard people making is an extension cord junction boxed controlled thermostat to plug in a electric portable ceramic space heater into.
@theinternetelectrician Жыл бұрын
Good question. I installed this in my former home that had a gas furnace, and have since moved to a home that has electric baseboard heat. I wanted to do what you are considering as well, but haven't got around to doing that and making a video on the subject. It can be done, you would have to use a transformer to get the control voltage down to 24v, and then use that 24v for the Nest T-stat to control a relay or contactor that would then control the 120 or 240V for the electric heating. With many different heating devices on separate circuits, and in all the zones in the home, it could get complicated, but it's possible!

Hopefully a easy question for you Terry...My old thermostat didn't use the "C" wire, but it had a 5th blue wire that I could use for the "C" terminal, but when I take the electrical panel door off of the furnace I see that there is a Red wire that runs to a wall mounted switch that acts as a master power for the furnace unit. The blue wire on this end is not used. Should I attach this blue wire to the "C" contact in the furnace electrical unit is addition to the red wire that is there, or should I install the blue wire in replacement of the red wire that is connected to the "C" contact? Or maybe a 3rd and better option?

i have problem to push the wires back to the wall, these are a bit longer than needed. should we cut them short so the control unit can fit properly? Also, if one of the wires was connected wrongly, can we release it and reconnect the wire correctly?

What if the heating is a base board heading style? The original thermostat is something from the 70's. Will this still work? Please help...
@theinternetelectrician5 жыл бұрын
Anthony Tony, Toni, Tone Unless the baseboard heating uses a transformer and a relay for the thermostat controls, almost all baseboard heating uses line voltage thermostats so no, the Nest stat here can not be used.

Hello I have a ritetemp thermostat 8050 my wires are blue is C. RC & RH are jumped white is O. green is G but here’s the question the yellow wire is jumped from W & Y I did hook it up to Y is that right. The thermostat I tried had heat only It’s a Goodman heat pump. Wish I could post a picture of the wires.
@theinternetelectrician5 жыл бұрын
What is connected in the heat pump unit, or is that where the jumper is? Send me by email a picture to terry@electrical-online.com If there is cooling functionality with that heat pump, and W and Y are connected, then the unit will run on a call for heat and with a call for cooling. Just depends on what is connected at the stat, and at the unit itself.

I attempted to install my nest yesterday. I have a all electric heat pump setup and upon completion when turned to ac it would only blow hot air. The orange o/b wire was attached correctly, I even changed "o" to "b" and vise versa in the equipment settings, and still hot air. I was on the phone w nest for 2.5 hrs with zero luck. They are sending me a new nest hoping it was just a bad thermo. Any ideas

A question For residential why is it important to ensure that any device box you install is adequately sized for the application you intend to use it for?
@theinternetelectrician6 жыл бұрын
jeffrey cordero it’s important for two reasons, so the device physically fits easily without pinching or putting pressure on conductors. Second , to have adequate airspace around conductors to prevent the buildup or heat.

I'm happy with mine, but my primary reason for having it is to monitor the house temperature indoors while we're away, and then the ability to adjust if needed. Haven't really used it to the full potential of monitoring energy savings, the establishing of "learning" our personal schedules, etc.
