Installing The New Hornby TTS Class 66 Decoder And Upgrading The Speaker

I've finally got my hands on the long awaited class 66 TTS sound decoder. I was half expecting this to be a re packaged class 67 decoder but to Hornby's credit this is an all new sound file with plenty of new features. I have installed it into a Hornby class 66 as well as a Bachmann one. In this video I show you how to do this as well as choosing the best speakers for the job. I was pleased to see that the Bachmann model runs smoothly without adjusting any CV's, Hornby are clearly taking on board feedback which is great.

Your video was very helpful. I have about thirty Bachmann Class 66s, different liveries, with only a few, factory/dealer installed. I will be ordering chips, adapters and speakers now.

Handy video Richard, cannot believe the Hornby loco didnt have lights. I am the chap that just purchased the Class 66 TTS decoder off you this morning that you took out of one of your models. Do you happen to know what speaker it comes with as it looks different to the ones you show here. Cheers Paul

Hi yes I think its the standard speaker, I'm glad it didn'y have lights to be honest, otherwise it would be direct competition for bachmann and hattons/accurascale. I think its better to keep it as a slightly older design that can be sold at a lower price. If they design a new one it will be the same price as the others and pointless in my opinion

Thanks. Fair point. I have the Hornby COLAS 66 which this TTS will be fitted into plus several of the Bachmann 66s as well as 3x Dapol Class 59s. I agree on the lights, will keep it standard. Cheers

Chris Usher I think it would be fine. You have plenty of control of the sounds with notch up and down as well which would be really useful on a small layout

hi I'm James, I'm looking to fit some speakers to my Hornby hst's (Intercity British Rail Executive livery and the Intercity Swallow livery, john wesley one aswell.) I've got the legoman valenta sound 5 decoders but they came with sugar cube speakers. 😊

Was any CV altering needed with the Bachmann model ?

DallamTMD no I was surprised to find that it ran smoothly without any tweaking of the CV’s

aldofaescotland wouldn’t fit properly, you would lose the lights too
