Installing the porthole window on the roof of the camper

For some time I wanted to replace the porthole window of my Adria Van, I decided to install a Fiamma Vent Crystal.
Despite a perfect seal, the old porthole window had been mounted somewhat roughly, improvised shims were used to adapt the porthole window to the corrugated profile of the roof as well as an overwhelming amount of sealant.
Removing the old glue and cleaning is quite a difficult job given the sticky nature of the material that must be removed by mechanical means and is also unassailable by acetone.
The roof of the Fiat Ducato 244, as already mentioned, has a wavy surface, so I have prepared some shims to eliminate the differences in height. I didn't have 6mm plastic available, so I used wood of the same thickness, insulated and waterproofed with three layers of impregnating agent despite having been completely protected by the sealant.
As a rule, when you do these jobs there are always surprises: once the old porthole window has been removed, a layer of paint has blown off. A few years ago I had the roof repainted ...
I therefore preferred to finish the surrounding surface with Bostik Liquid Rubber, a product I know well from having used it on many surfaces subjected to extreme weather conditions ranging from sun to pouring rain. Subsequently, to cover the black of the rubber, I applied two coats of Unico Icobit, a material that I had never used but which adheres tenaciously to liquid rubber and being gray improves aesthetics as much as possible.
Liquid rubber offers maximum strength and thickness when used with a reinforcing band which is none other than non-woven fabric. Not having it when shooting the video I tried to replace it with glass wool, but it is a solution that I do not recommend, I had to overlay this first unsatisfactory step with a second layer using the reinforcing band that I had ordered in the meantime.
I plan to finish everything later with an almond-shaped aluminum frame.
Another unexpected event was due to my mistake, I ordered a black instead of white Sikaflex 521 UV sealant adhesive, noticing it only at the time of assembly. However perfect material regardless of color.
I deliberately avoided the sealing tape that is often used in these cases, since the porthole window is fixed with twenty self-tapping screws that make it adhere perfectly, in addition of course to the Sikaflex generously spread as an adhesive between roof and porthole window, in the screw holes and as a final seal along the perimeter.
I publish this video several months after editing, everything seems to be working at its best.

Si usa il terostat e non tutto quel sigillante....i listelli di legno andavano sigillati meglio prima di posare l'oblò

Non c’è dubbio il Terostat è il prodotto specifico per questi utilizzi, ho però preferito utilizzare il Sikaflex vista la presenza degli spessori che richiedevano comunque una doppia sigillatura. Quindi ho preparato degli spessori molto precisi e ho sigillato tutto, le 20 viti serrate a dovere hanno fatto il resto. Gli spessori di legno sono isolati abbondantemente con tre strati di impregnante e non vengono raggiunti né dall’acqua né dai raggi UV essendo coperti e isolati. I due prodotti Gomma Liquida e Unico Icobit li ho usati per coprire e isolare le parti di verniciatura rovinata. Hanno comunque contribuito a rifinire i bordi. Di lì non passa niente, garantito, anche se ho adottato una soluzione alternativa.

Mi spiace contraddirla ma da esperto del settore non è la soluzione giusta...quel materiale applicato tipo guaina non è idonea a quel tipo di utilizzo....i listelli andavano fatti di PVC o teflon e non di legno in quanto marciscono...le parti rovinate bastava ripristinare con della vernice bicomponente da carrozzeria , anche il deflettore bastava solo incollarlo senza forare la lamiera

Con quel trattamento e in quelle condizioni il legno non marcisce, comunque terrò conto dei suoi suggerimenti, grazie.
