I'm installing the new Zenith Super Duty nose gear puck suspension system that Zenith has designed. Instead of the old style bungee used on the nosegay strut, this new system uses rubber disks much like the Mooneys.

G,day from (Quarantine house lockdown) Sydney Australia. * Thankyou for explaining the nose wheel assembly. * I really like the CH750 plans. They are highly detailed; and easy to read. 🌏🇦🇺

Your ingenuity in solving the little issues that surface (and the big ones too) are a good method of learning how to be creative. Thanks for sharing your video. Enjoy work!!! But especially enjoy Oshkosh.

Great update video. I started filming and posting videos for my airplane work. Nothing near as nice as yours, but it's what I can afford, and I know I'll have fun flying it. I've used some of your filming techniques as a template to follow, hope you don't mind. Cheers from Winnipeg. (my videos are under my name here)

For O Rings, boil water in the microwave and then drop the o-ring in for about 5 minutes. They will go over easily when heated and dont have to worry about stressing the rubber at less than 100C.

Hey Mark...seems to me that there were a bunch of suggestions on those wheel O-rings when you built the CruZer. I kinda like the zip tie trick, although I can see how you could damage the ring if not careful. Thanks for sharing and Stay Safe!

So it's looks like your nose gear is all pucked up!

It does take 2 people if you try to pull the o-ring up onto the inside of the rim by approaching it from the smaller or inside diameter of the wheel half. However, I've done this several times solo and I've never had any problem putting the o-ring on the wheel by myself. Simply lube it a little with your silicone paste grease and from outside the wheel, hook it over the rim of the wheel and stretch it over and snap it onto the relatively "flat" or non-sloped portion of the wheel just inside the rim. Leave it there until the wheel is assembled and then push it off and it'll slide down to where the two wheel halves meet. I also usually put silicone grease around the periphery where the 2 wheel halves meet so there will be a "bed" of it to replace what is wiped off as the o-ring slides down the wheel half.

I try to ream the parts together when two parts are bolted like this. That generally ensures the bolts will go through both parts easily.

Hey Mark, If a bolt doesn't fit, sometimes you can first try another bolt of the same nominal size - as each bolt size does have a tolerance (min & max dimensions) ; you'd be looking for one with a dimension close to the minimum diameter (within the tolerance range) for the part number. However, holes often have to cleaned out after paint is applied regardless; just consider applying corrosion protection (brush application of Alodine for example) after you clean the hole, if your part and fasteners are made of dissimilar metals and the cleaned surface area is significantly large. Ps - any mention of silicone grease requiring use of gloves on the packaging ? (The type I've used in the past (years ago) mentioned using gloves to avoid possible skin irritation). Another great video. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Mark. Some builders reported that the aluminum rings were really tight fits on their strut. For your painted strut, did you need to enlarge the aluminum disk holes or did they fit as received? Great and informative video. Thank you.

I did not modify the rings or the donuts. They fit great.

I seemed to have missed the work around for the notches not fitting on the main gear attachments. How did you fix it?

Hi Mark, We are just about to install our landing gear on our Super Duty. Did you have to ream out the donuts and spacers to fit over the fork tube since it looks like it is powder coated?

Excellent execution on an airframe that would have been my last choice for back country ... you cant fit a 35" tire on the nose and aluminum spring gear on the mains is archaic compared to what's available on other airframes .. With me ,all the time and effort of doing this I surely would have chosen a Super Cub type or Bearhawk... both of which have twice the resale value and much wider envelope than the Zenith ... With 35" mains and shock gear you can land on a rock pile .. Zenith forever limited by nose wheel ... Having said that I own a Murphy Rebel lol .. a tail dragger that requires slats to get it into the super cub range of landing slow and whose mains are like the Zenith's , solid aluminum gear without shock absorbing/ dampening capability.. though it is a tail dragger ... However Im designing mains for it that resemble the Pilatus Porter .. articulating ,shock dampened . The main advantage of Zenith .. they're cheap .. Main disadvantage .. they're cheap and not near optimal in any of the categories they dwell in ... I think your building talents and perfectionist qualities should have been spent on a truly extreme state of the art back country machine ... A super cub built by you would be worth $250,000.00

Mark, there are many reasons I chose the Super Duty over other bush-type airplanes. I did not choose it because it is the ultimate “nothing-is-better” off airport bush plane. I agree that that other airplanes may have better off airport capabilities than the Super Duty, but I chose this airplane because it has the ability to do what I want to do with it, I thought it was a mean looking airplane, the Zenith kits are just fun to build, I’m a fan of the company, and the folks at Zenith are awesome dudes. If the Super Duty does not fit YOUR mission, then feel free to build something else.

@@KitplaneEnthusiast Ya I dont build planes to make friends with the factory .. I have friends .. and all planes are fun to build .. especially best in class as opposed to worst in class ..Me spending all that time and effort on worst in class actually takes the fun out of it .. then once airborne being slowest in the group and cant land where they land takes even more fun out ... And having the least return on dollar and time takes more fun out ... My mission is for me to make good decisions

Is there any drawback to putting the oring on the wheel half not on the bench (top half as seen)? Seems like it would be easier without the tire in the way and maybe wouldn't require extra help. I've never put one of these together, so I could be overlooking something that completely rules that method out.

I think you might be on to something. It might be easier to put the o ring on the other half. I’ll try that when I get home.

I just had to carefully grind the opening a little wider. Still fits very snugly.
