Our TREX deck was started today. About 300 sq. feet. 3 guys and about 6 hours got all the framing (except for the stairs) and 90+% of the deck boards done. I can't recall if your contractor filled in the surface holes with a "bung" of sorts of not. Loving it so far!
@randallwingett3 жыл бұрын
Hey Cheri Jim, thank you for your comment and question! No, our contractor did not fill in the screw holes, if that's what you mean by "bung." He only use screws on the faming; the main deck boards were attached with hidden deck fasteners. The screw heads are small in diameter and designed to melt the top layer of the Trex composite board from the heat generated during installation, thus sealing the hole in the composite board. I hope that you are as pleased with your choice of a Trex decking as we are! - Randall

Good looking deck. Helps when builder knows what they are doing too. Hate to see expensive Trex installed incorrectly, which is what happened to my deck by original owners.
@sealteamryx67584 жыл бұрын
We did a deck with that same trex it was 48' long and like 18' wide with like those clipped corners so it was trapezoid shaped with wrap around stairs on the whole thing lol it was a pain... but it was the first time we had used Camo system so that was cool.. ended up looking amazing

I noticed that the corners are touching. Is that okay? I thought that you need to leave room for expansion? Thanks for the help!

I’ve seen a lot of builders butt the Motte’s corner joints together. I’m in the process of that myself and not sure how to proceed.

I hope it was a good hot day - those Mitered corners on the long boards should be gapped 1/8 inch.
@randallwingett3 жыл бұрын
Good observation! The gap was a bit tight in some places. In direct sun, there is no gap. I’ve reached out to the contractor many times to fix this and some broken screw issues, but he hasn’t responded. So I fixed what I could myself - not the gap.

Chris Blue seems like a nice guy. A lot of people would probably have been annoyed with some Huell Howser-type person following them around with a camera while they're trying to work. I guess I'd put up with it for twelve large, though. Very nice build. Enjoy your view, and your wine.

Looks good but $11,584?.???? From the scenery I can tell that this isn’t in Hollywood, Chicago or Manhattan. Did I miss the other two decks attached to this house that were part of this project?

Trex is not cheap and neither is craftsmanship. Higher some fly by night, cheap fella and you'll get what you pay for.

Did you miss the sentence where he wanted to look at the Olympic Mountains from his deck? That means this project is in the upper west coast where real estate and labor costs are ridiculous. That's why it's $12K for an $8K project.

Maybe it’s just me but the spotty dark area’s make it look like a wood deck that needs refinishing . But the rest of the color looks great.

Almost $11,600 wow that sounds like a whole lot of money for that small deck it looks good good quality work I am wondering if most of that money went for the material if not that's a pretty high labour charge

@@randallwingett roughly 30 of 16 feet boards = 1800$ , wood and butyl tape - 300$. ?

I just had a 675 sq ft trex deck built, all new framing underneath.. 2 wks labor.. was nearly 11,500. 3x size of this one.. If customer is happy… its a win/win.

I noticed that you had to use a full decking board for the riser and a small piece of another to get your proper riser height. Did you rip that on a table saw vs some people use one full piece of pvc and paint it for the risers. I guess it’s just a preference. One smooth piece vs. two pieces.

Beautiful deck. It’s well done, thorough, and complete. The only thing is the critter screen isn’t small enough to keep out rodents. The project looks easy enough as a DIY project, but it’ll take 4 times as long with some shortcuts and some mistakes. The prices are high. I think you already paid $4000 for materials so the actual price is $16000?
@randallwingett3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the complement! The total cost of this Trex Transcend composite deck was $11,600. And there were a few mistakes made by the pro (broken screws and loose boards), some of which I was able to fix myself.

I'm looking to replace my existing redwood deck with Trex but cannot find Harvest Gold on their website as a color choice. Havana Gold is the closest color to what you have. I'm guessing that from other comments, Harvest Gold is incorrect and Havana Gold is the correct color. Am I correct in my assumption. Nice looking deck by the way.

How do you keep your miters tight? I found that they can start off tight in the morning and by the afternoon they are wavy and open up. Are you using an adhesive or putting a screw through the corner?
@randallwingett4 жыл бұрын
Interesting question. Coincidentally, one board at the corner miter joint pulled up today leaving a potential trip edge. It seems the recent heat from direct sunlight pulled the screw loose from the wood joist. I’ll follow up with the fix by the contractor providing he responds.
