Hi, I tried installing Ubuntu on a thinkpad t460s and got "media test failure, check cable", so I could not boot anything. I made a change in the Bios afterwards to UEFI only. After that I tried do the installation again, and now it seem to work, though I skipped the option of additonal installation for Ubuntu. It is now working, and I want to say thank you for this video!

Hey, wanted to make a correction to a comment I left on the Macbook installation of Ubuntu, I had mentioned Etcher on that video as a better cross platform solution because the target machine was a mac and Rufus is windows only. I didn't realize you were already familiar with Etcher and mentioned it in this video. Just wanted to make sure people knew it existed, and was a good cross platform choice. Have a great day :)

I installed Ubuntu Linux on an Acer ES14 that was unusable with Wndows and it's awesome. I'm using it when I'm going through one of my courses. It had some issues with the wireless card at the moment but will fix it a bit later. I just replaced the HDD of a Lenovo Ideapad 510 to an SSD and planning on getting a CD cradle to put the original HDD drive in. I'm thinking of using that drive to install Ubuntu Linux for a dual boot laptop.

Sounds great! I hope the WiFi troubleshooting goes well. SSDs make a huge difference in performance and reliability. :)

@compumatterllc I read a fix on reddit but I haven't tried yet as I can plug my Android phone to access the Internet to get around it, and when I get an Ethernet switch, I'll plug it in there too. Once I install Ubuntu on the Lenovo laptop, I probably won't use the Acer much. I have a HP Split X2 which was making a lot of fan noise. Once I replace the fan, I might make it into a ChromeBook using Chromium. I guess the DIY fixing bug got me again

The impact of Linux on old hardware can probably save 1000's of tons of landfill e-waste. Great guide. Audio seemed out of synch at the beginning.

I have tons of old hardware running Linux Mint these days, but I may spin up a device here or there running ubuntu or simular distros.

Im a lil confused as to why you would recommend such a large usb drive for a 4.7 GiB ISO? Seems overkill. Might put some people off from even trying thinking that old 8 gig stick they have on hand is too small. Btw...I don't use the script.

Yes, that was an error on my part, I must've misread something a while back. 8GB is more than enough.

Hmm..if you can remake the bootable USB media and try again or make it on a new USB stick just in case of faulty hardware, that may help. Sometimes they do not create correctly and it can cause that error.

I get this Error all the time: "You need at least 10.7 GB disk space to install Linux Ubuntu. This computer has only 0.0 B." Any Idea to fix it?

Do you have a hard drive installed in your computer? That might be a sign that your internal hard drive has failed and needs replacement if you do. At that point, I would highly recommend getting an SSD (Solid State Drive).

​@@compumatterllc Thank you for the fast response and the good advice. The hard drive was the problem. I executed the Error checking function on my windows 7 machine and he found and fixed one error after that I was able to install the Linux OS on this machine!

Is the external SSD recognized by other devices and does it show up as a device during the Ubuntu installation process?

I wouldn't recommend using an external ssd as a boot drive in place of a USB stick for the purpose of installation, but you CAN install Ubuntu to an external SSD. That way, you can plug it into other devices and boot to it.
