Thanks so much for your helpful videos! I watched this one, the one on how to remove this type of flooring along with the one about the temperature that the floor needs to be for installation. We bought our home in September 2018 & the basement has old peel n stick tile that needs to come up in 2 areas that are different patterns in each area & indoor carpet in another area. So watching your great video of how to remove the old tile & prep for the new tile taught me the best way to remove it. This video taught me everything I was looking for as to how to best install the new tile that is already on the way. Thanks again for making all the videos so helpful!!

My husband layed sticky tile on our basement floor over the weekend. It's popping up in spots. He only did a small area to make sure we'd like it. My dad said that the floor is too cold. Should we put a heater on the concrete before we continue? Or do we need to wait until the weather changes? We wanted to get this done during the winter months.

Thank you for your comment. I have never needed to use that tactic, but it makes pretty good sense. I would go with the hair dryer because I'm sure the heat gun could be too hot and compromise the tile. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for your question. I would suggest you fill in the gaps of the expansion joints. The tile will sag into the spaces, especially when under the pressure of traffic. You can get floor leveler in premixed form and apply it with a simple putty knife. You'll need to give it at least a day do dry.

Thanks for the comment. Our tile is not recommended for walls because the adhesive is not made for holding in the vertical position. We DO get many inquiries about that. Now we carry a wall tile in 4" x 4" squares, mainly used for back splash. We have a video on it.

Great question. Thank you. I have personally had experience installing tile over top of a sticky surface from where we removed peel & stick tile. It worked out great. You SHOULD KNOW, however, we removed our own brand of tile and replaced it with our own brand. So the adhesive was exactly the same. While I can make no guarantees as to the compatibility with another brand's adhesive with the adhesive of our brand, I think it should be fine.

I have a painted concrete garage floor with some salt damage. I plan to patch the floor spots but leave the existing paint which I think is the latex variety based on wear evidence. Will this go over it? Is it slippery when wet? This looks like the right thing for me. I hope its within budget. I was dreading the nightmare painful and uncertain repaint - which ultimately fail. Plus I don't have the 2 weeks it'd take to paint my gar 1/2 at a time. I need a lay-down tile product.

Thank you for your question. I have no doubt you'll be fine with the drips so long as you clean up. This tile is generally something you would use in a kitchen, bathroom, laundry room or foyer. I have (and lots of our customers have) used the product in far more demanding environments with much success. Tiles which may get damaged from abnormal traffic or chemical spillage can easily be removed and replaced with the leftovers from your original installation, making our tile a great choice.

Thank you for your question. There's no reason moisture should be a problem. When you install the tile, you'll position each piece to be tight against each other piece without spaces. That's natural because it will look terrible if you don't! I wouldn't expect anyone to let water stand on their floor either. If you're concerned about mopping, don't worry. Mop away. This will not be an issue.
@mazerwholesale12 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. The surface you're installing on certainly must be dry before applying the tile. Once the tile is installed, moisture doesn't seem to be a problem. However, standing water should not be allowed. Just as you would mop up a spill on your kitchen floor, so should you keep the surface of the tile dry from standing water. Basements tend to be moist but have not had any negative feedback about basement application in the 12 years we've been selling the tile.

Thank you for your question. The tile will take the shape of the floor you lay it on. If there are any holes or cracks, the tile will ultimately sink into them. Also, if you were to spill a glass of water on your kitchen floor, you would clean it up promptly. If your basement gets water and it tends to remain wet, you will have problems.

Thank you for asking! It's now 9 years and 2 months and every tile is still firmly in place. But let me tell you what I did 1 year ago, and I'll also include a link to the video. Many people ask: "Can I use this tile to cover the tile already on my floor, or do I have to remove the old tile?" So, after 8 years, my garage floor was as good as new in the low-traffic areas and a little beat up in the higher-traffic area. It still looked pretty good considering we seldom swept the floor and NEVER mopped it. Hey...it's a garage floor! A few tiles took more of a beating than others and in this video, I demonstrate how to remove and replace a few tiles kzbin.info/www/bejne/aH64k2B3otR2nq8 . And in THIS video, I show how a new tile can be installed over top of the previous tile kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKSxqo2fnKeomZI . We sold that house 6 weeks ago but the new installation of Salt & Pepper had behaved just as the Black and White. We had 3 offers on the house in 3 days and sold it to one of them. Not saying it was because of the tile on the garage floor...but you never know!

Henry's Floor Patch / Crack Filler. Home Depot sells it. Lowe's probably has a different brand and any hardware store carries a similar product. You can buy it in a quart-size can or a gallon and you can buy in powder form if you have a lot of cracks and holes to be filled.

Thank you for your question. The floor should be at least 65 degrees. Think about applying sticky tape to something cold...it doesn't stick well. Same with tile. The two difficult parts I wanted to see must have been edited out or forgotten. How do you cut the edge tiles, and what do you do about the raw edge under the garage door?
@mazerwholesale3 жыл бұрын
Cutting the tiles is simple. Simply use a razor knife (utlility knife) and score the back of the tile, then break it off. No need to cut all the way through it. One stroke of the blade with slight pressure is enought. As for the raw edge, it's not NECESSARY to cover it but if you want to, go to a hardware store where they sell vinyl/rubber runner. Apply adhesive (contact cement will work fot this) and overlapt the edge with the runner.

"Hey, I wanna rip up that ugly, old linoleum on the basement shop and put in a new floor!" What does she do? She rips up the old floor up on a whim, buys exactly *one* box of new tiles from the local big-box store (because, ya know, why measure the actual surface you need to cover when you can just guess?) and, for a year, never puts down the new ones. I finally took matters into my own hands and went to buy more but - you know it - the handful of tiles she bought were now discontinued. Into the trash they went. I had to buy a totally new set and sit at ~25% waste before I had made a single cut on the new stuff! I love her, but good grief...

Beautiful ... one question in winter how this tiles stand with harsh weather like car tire fill of snow or water ? Plz reply I am planning to do this in my basement laundry room concrete floor.
@mazerwholesale7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. The cold temperatures don't affect the tile. However, when you install the tile, the room and the floor should be over 60 degrees F. As for snow: I tell all my customers to think about your tile as if it were a kitchen floor. If your floor should become wet from a spill or a leak, you would clean it up not not leave standing water. Our tile is naturally water resistant being vinyl but it's not a miracle product. Floors aren't supposed to be submerged in water. Likewise the salt you may bring in from the roads in winter is corrosive and abrasive. There's not a surface in the world which will not suffer from grinding salt into it. In winter, you may want to put some rubber matting on the tiles your car tires touch. They will always drive over the same tiles.
@AndrewMazeraka-Maze11 жыл бұрын

I am sure the directions on the back of the box says you NEED TO prime the floor before you lay ANY tiles. 2:41
@mazerwholesale12 жыл бұрын
I have complete confidence the tile will adhere to you surface after repairing the damaged areas. The tile is very glossy, it CAN be slippery when wet. However, salt will be unkind to the surface. You wouldn't wear your slushy, salty snow boots in your kitchen and grind abrasive material into your floor....it wouldn't be good for the floor. Car tires will be driving over the same tiles all the time and that makes it easy to replace the occasional corrupted tiles so it IS a cheap alternative.

How long or year, (estimated) it will last a vinyl tile?
@mazerwholesale3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. How long it lasts depends on the traffic/punishment the floor takes. In my garage, the high traffic area started to show wear in about 3 years but we NEVER TRIED to keep it clean. The dirt that comes into a garage is abrasive. With sand and dirt grinding down on it under foot, car tires, trash cans, bicycles, etc. it will wear faster, of course. The areas which don't get as much traffic stay looking new indefinitely.

Great video! I had alot some questions which you anwsered perfectly. I am also doing my garage with the checkerboard pattern and using the same nexus black and white tiles. I was thinking of using some cvt adhesive lightly on the floor to give it that extra hold but you said it is strong as is. So i guess i won't need to buy the adhesive. You started from the center but i'm going to start from the front of the garage so its all full squares and not cut. What would you recommend to use as a transition where the tile ends at the front of the garage. I was thinking of running a strong black caulking along the edge.
@andrewmazer74007 жыл бұрын
The warranty on the Nexus is void if you park a car on it. We have a product which is almost exactly the same but it does come with warranty for parking a car on it. My floor is Nexus but I don't park my car in the garage. Next month (April 2018) it will be 7 years since I installed the tile. There are a few chips in the front where the tile stops at the door. Not a big deal. Adding a bead of caulk might work...not sure. You could also consider buying a strip of rubber or vinyl and glue it. Every one of my Nexus tiles are still firmly in place. I can't imagine they would suffer from the weight of a car, but I don't know for sure.

It's important to remove paint which is bubbling or flaking, but the tile generally sticks well to the paint which is in good shape.

As a precaution, I had a homer bucket filled with water I could place on any tile to put pressure on the adhesive.

Just got my tiles, and it say not to lay floor on radiant heated floors. Why? Will it make the glue dryout, or the floor tiles melt? Its not like radiant heated floors get that hot, just warm Please let me know if its ok to still put these tiles down. ASAP

It seems to me that starting in the center of the room will result in equal cuts on the opposite sides of the room. It will result in twice as many cuts as compared to starting in the corner. At the same time, if your room is not square, starting in the middle will assure that our tile is straight.

I've been researching flooring for my garage and this looks perfect...thanks. I'll post pictures when it's complete. Can you recommend a floor polish to increase the shine?

I was told the floor had to be sealed before I could lay tile on concrete. Was your floor sealed prior to placing the tile down?
@kente99 Жыл бұрын
I would like to just document my experience with these tiles. It may not correspond to anyone else's experience and I'm not trying to post a negative review. The people at Mazer have been communicative and have attempted to be halpful. My installation was on an epoxied garage floor that was in pretty good shape but ready to be renewed. I cleaned the floor thoroughly with a pressure washer and filled in gaps and spauls with a concrete mix. We then proceeded to install most of the tiles. The adhesion was poor to nonexistent. The tiles bubbled up around the edges and can be lifted up with just a fingernail It is almost as if the floor repels the adhesive. I talked to Mazer about this and they recommended drops of superglue around the edges and I tried that but it just bonded in spots and isn't really a solution. I am now using a 3M spray adhesive and it looks like that may work but it will require me to pull up all the tiles and spend many hours to fix the problem. They claim that this only happens in 3% of their cases and I have no reason to doubt that but I would recommend that if you want to use this product you might want to buy just one box and try it out. The product is heavy, and even if Mazer was willing to give me a refund (which they aren't), the shipping cost to return them would be prohibitive. The tiles look great and they are staying in place with the cars driving over them but i don't know how long they will stay in place, what will happen when it gets cold in the winter, and the bubbling around the edges makes the installation look cheezy.

How resistant is this to Hot tire lift?
@mazerwholesale7 жыл бұрын
No customers have ever reported their hot tires affected the tile. We have been selling the tile all over the country, including Florida, Arizona, California, and the cold states of the Northeast. Once the tile glue has cured (about 24 hours), it's a done deal.

Unless you're doing burnouts with your car before you enter the garage your tires should not be that hot

Too bad you didn't get your tiles originally from us. We never had a customer with a problem like the one you're describing...12 years running!
@mazerwholesale13 жыл бұрын
@zetapsicq Although I've tiled my garage floor, I don't use it for my car. However, we've had dozens of customers who have. One customer reported peeling of a tile which is directly under his tail pipe and another told me he had to replace 2 tiles over the course of time. So holding on to whatever is left over from your initial installation is a good idea.

How will this hole up on a high vehicle traffic industrial auto ship garage
@mazerwholesale7 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question. This material is not for high automobile traffic. It's for basic parking in a residential garage which generally experiences in-out once or twice a day. It's not a commercial tile product. We DO have something new coming soon.
