When you said you were using a Windows 3.11 CD, I realized I have my own CD and decided to do exactly everything you did (down to the mouse being broken). Did this because I realized the Windows install I used to set up some old games that would only run on Win3.1 broke after a reinstall.

(26:25) I believe you can go faster in _SkiFree_ with the 'f' key (toggles like Caps lock); I didn't know about the 'f' key back then. Tried different ways of evading the abominable snow man, including seeing how far up the slope the game would let me climb. DOSbox seems to be a bit weird about detecting changes to the file directories while in operation. It typically doesn't notice them until you restart the program, or as you demonstrated, make some direct change to the files through DOSbox itself. Which is weird, but there it is. At least, that's been my experience with the "dir" command in DOSbox itself, outside of the Win3.11. - Lewis

Hey, Druaga, I discovered something that may be useful to you; if you want to install Win 3.11 on DOSBox 0.74 and have the mouse working, you just need to perform two extra steps. 1. Copy MOUSE .COM into your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory for DOSBox 2. Add "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MOUSE .COM" (without the space; it's just to keep the filename from showing up as a hyperlink) to your autoexec.bat file. Next time you start WIndows 3.11, the mouse will work. A little fast, but you can just adjust that in the Mouse control panel.

I did this last year. I havent updated dosbox ever (I have 0.74) and now it crashes when I open wfw311. Even reinstalling it 5 times didn't work. EDIT It seems Standard Mode (win /s) works fine while 386 Mode (win) doesn't. I have no clue why.

Linux for a while was an option but doesn't run everything which Play on Linux or Crossover is hit and miss. MS recently just bought Linux and Git Hub (the central respiratory system) for getting any files. Apple uses a (soft) form of Linux for a decade now which Ubuntu is a (free) version that's experimental and if it is a success Apple makes a user friendly version of the program. See where this is going? MS owns Linux which Apple uses Linux in a modified layer for professional use.

Been using Linux for a year now (Xubuntu) and been running all my Windows apps through Wine without major issues. It's not "hit and miss" at all, I hate when people spread false info like this. And I'm using a pretty old version, 2.21 staging. What I like about it is the flexibility, I can have multiple Windows "drives" compressed down to 20MB and I can choose which drive an app runs into. I dare saying that I'm having better compatibility with old software than I had when using Windows itself. Should had migrated sooner.
