Installing Windows 95 on a 486 Gateway 2000

This was the first PC that I owned back in the early 90s. Originally, my parents bought it with a 386sx 16Mhz processor, 2mb of ram and a 40meg hard drive. At that time, it came with MS Dos 5.0 and Windows 3.0. A couple of years later, Gateway was offering an upgrade to the motherboard with a 486dx2 processor (which I bought) + an extra 2 mb of ram upgrade. I later swapped out the 5 1/4 disk drive for a Sound Blaster CD-ROM drive and added a Sound Blaster sound card. That was my PC up until I went to College. Many fond memories of this machine... All that's left from it now are the 124 key "Any Key" keyboard and 2 huge Manuals for Windows 3.0 and Dos 5.0. I don't know why, but I have a huge nostalgia feeling for these machines... A 486DX2 66MHz only 486 or it can be upgraded beyond the DX2 66MHz?

Probably, but anything past 95b would probably slow down a 486. But it should run decently enough

@@cappaculla Spec wise its on par with 98. c has most of the features as 98 rtm. On paper it would work fine on a 486, but it would just be a little slower on a 386 or 486.

@@dylanash2569 Nahh, no discernible difference to be fair... I've been installing windows since its been in early beta (I worked at MS in Ireland 91-97 doing allot of localisation and dev support). And 95c ran just fine on a DX-50 with 8mb... Win 98, yep 16 to 24 on preferably a p5 75.
