I am so happy KZbin is feeding me smaller channels now. Lovely video, absolutely love 1995 era PCs. That was when I was 8. What memories! So cool to look back and see this tech up close again.

Grew up on 95 and 98, started on DOS, kids these days have no idea how much of a pain it was getting games working back then lol. Soundcards, different drivers, different versions of DirectX, and all troubleshooting done likely without internet. Used to be you had a dedicated Encyclopedia program, no googling anything back then

Wow nice find! I am in California too and it gets harder and harder to find old computers and components. If I were you I would use the machine for DOS games or pre 3D windows game only. Even with a proper 3D accelerator, you will get relatively low FPS with that CPU. Well it is just from my experience though. Anyway I really enjoyed the video!

Your onboard sound chip is very compatible with DOS games. I could seed OPL2 chip right by Sound Blaster Vibra 16. Phils Lab has PNP DOS drivers that sould work perfecly. I have a Vibra 16 as a card, works fine on DOS with very old games, like 1989 Prince of Persia.

The original S3 Virge is a bit picky when it comes to Direct 3D versions. DirectX 5.1 did work for me but different drivers may need different DirectX versions (version 5 is always a good start in my opinion). The Virge is also not very compatible over all and a bit slow to top it off. The bilinear texture filtering is extremely cycle-hungry and will reduce the frame rate quite a bit if activated. On the other hand, the Virge has good dos compatibility. I would use the original '325 Virge for testing S3D games or DOS only. A nvidia Riva 128 or a Matrox G200 might do the trick for 3D, both having good picture quality and speed. The ATI Rage Pro or Rage XL are balanced speed wise, have good drivers and very good Dos support.

About the game in DirectX, are you sure your Win95 version comes with it ? IIRC, it didn't happen before win95 OSR2, so you may have to install it.

hey mate its so funny and so surprising, I have this exact mainboard that i want to build my win95 pc on, so I came to your vid, its perfect for my needs! mine does not come with the onboard sound - thats ok, I got plenty of good isa soundcards, but what question bothers me a lot more it that mine came without the l2 cache memory module and they are nowhere to be found!!! how strong do you think it will impact my win95 building ENDEAVORS (thats funny, because the mainboard is an intel endeavor 1.0) when I have to go without the extra l2 cache? the cpu is an pentium 100 thank you in advance and best regards from bavaria in southern germany!

I'd say keep the integrated Vibra16 audio. The FM might sound a tad different (CQM vs a real OPL3), but you'll have far better compatibility with games. Also, if you're interested in demos, there are people selling replicas of the Gravis UltraSound PnP online.

95, 98 & XP interfaces were so much better than 10 & 11. Its surprising that nobody has released a shell that emulates one of those versions that can be installed on top of 10 or 11.

Dont forget windows 7! MS actually took shat they learned from 95, 98 and XP and made it even better. In my opinion windows 7 was the last windows where Microsoft actually cared. After that, its been only downhill

@@waifuracer6516 Agreed. The Indian execs who run MS now clearly want to change Window's interface to look like a cell phone. Programs are now "apps", everything has to be downloaded & saved on their clouds, etc. I guess its time to learn Linux.
@LS-ti6jo
@LS-ti6jo 8 ай бұрын
@@waifuracer6516 gree totally. The difference between then and now is startling. Only thing I see that would have cause that was the flood of indian executives at MS & US IT companies. It was bad enough when MS was just copying Apple, but the new execs are clearly trying to make Windows function like cell phones. Nightmare.

The S3 Virge is not rellay a proper 3D card for Windows gaming. It came out before most of the Windows 3D standards even existed. So it does not properly support 3D acceleration in most Windows 3D games. Think of it more as a standard 2D graphics card. Some early games may have special patches to take advantage of it's features. But it has really limited 3D capabilities.

The fastest CPU that this motherboard supports is a Pentium 133MHz unless its a socket 7 motherboard then it will support a Pentium 200 non MMX. however this mobo can overclock its FSB so perhaps your Pentium 133MHz CPU is overclocked ?? :)
