As a flames fan I'm so happy to have Lomberg back. I watched him in a meaningless prospects tournament in 2016 and absolutely loved his game and he became one of my favorite players. Me and a buddy watching game 7 were jumping and cheering when he hoisted the cup 🤤

The real problem with mantha is just effort. Guy has it all to be a consistent 30 goal guy, he just has patches where he seems to just coast. Coming from a wings fan, he can be brutal

Everything Conroy has done as GM has gone his way. Quite literally, without exaggeration. Toffoli trade: WIN. Zadorov trade:WIN. Lindholm trade: Smash hit Grand slam home run WIN. Markstrom trade: WIN. Mangipanie trade: Win. Tanev Trade: WIN. Hanafin trade: Win, but Vegas signed him, so turned out good for them too. Letting kyllington walk: Win.

Okay timeout not all of these trades are 'wins' in the sense of the return we got (Zadorov and Hanifin come to mind) but it's relieving he and management and fully committing to the rebuild. Conny has been cooking!

@@maxbolton5227 They are all wins. Hanafin was not going to sign, and Zadorov was a problem in the room who demanded a trade to Toronto in the middle of a game against Toronto.

@@ariea.devalois1564 Wins in the sense that we got consideration for players who weren't going to resign, sure. But a 3rd and a 5th for a rental who was huge in the playoffs and who ended up being worth 5x6 is a weak return, and only a 1st, a 3rd and a fringe NHLer for Hanifin is a weak return. Doesn't matter though, going in the right direction finally!

@@maxbolton5227 I don't know what you think Hanafin was going to fetch. A: he basically said only Tampa was acceptable, and had to be convinced Vegas was an option. So, the Flames had very little leverage if Tampa (capped out) wasn't in. And B: Vegas had no certainty that Hanafin was anything more than a rental, given they also knew the player was leaning Tampa. Zadorov had to go, as quickly as possible for any reasonable return. And yes, Conroy has done a great job turning the page.

@@ariea.devalois1564 If you're picking winners and losers of a trade, it's usually a zero sum game. From face value for the Zadorov, Hanifin and Tanev trades without considering circumstances around them, I have a hard time arguing the Flames had a better return that the other team. Conroy did a great job managing situations where he had minimal leverage, but doesn't mean he won every single trade and the other GMs stink.

Mackenzie Weegar had a career year last year, whats boring about that? Lomberg and Pospisil will be a menace. If Sharangovich and Huberdeau can continue playing like that for a whole season thats alright. We have a young d core who will be interesting to see develop and they will be getting ice time next season. Goaltending too. We might not win many games, but i feel like theyll be a really fun team to watch, not devastation every night like the sens rebuild

If the flames aren't in the bottom 10 spots in 2025, their 1st round pick goes to Florida. Good chance ufa's to be sold in the spring

No their first round pick goes to Montreal if they aren't bottom ten. If they are bottom ten, Montreal receives Florida's first round pick that Flames got in the Tkachuk trade. Those are the conditions of the Monahan trade.

I cant see them being good for at least another 4 years when they can really cash out on what they are getting in picks while shedding the old unless something unexpected and wild happens. But overall I think its an ok time to be a Flames fan compared to the last two years, no expectation and small sparks of optimism. Now if it still looks like this when the picks have had some cooking time then its gonna be miserable again haha

Yep it's gonna look bad for awhile. They sold off most the talent but had 16 picks in the top 3 rounds over the next 3 drafts including the one that just happened. It's a proper rebuild taking place.
