Watched Geekie this past season in Swift Current. The Broncos were a middle of the pack team until Geekie showed up and they rocketed up the standings and won the division. Team became a contender seemingly overnight. Tampa got a gem with this guy.

Has a Bolts fan there is a deep pain when losing a guy who’s been such a key part, and a memorable part of multiple cup runs, however this isn’t a bad move. There was an expectation among Tampa Bay fans and seemingly their front office that Sergachev was gonna be the next Hedman. Over the years while he was great he never really made that next step, and an argument could be made since 2021 he’s made small steps back with his game year after year. The main reason to keep him was his amazing playoff performances, but the Lightning have shown themselves to be smart by recognizing that they haven’t had that playoff success for a few seasons. They have lost three straight series, and they’ve been the worse team in each series by a significant margin. Now they are still the Lightning so they came pretty close to winning in 2022 and 2023, and had things been slightly different in either series it’s very possible they would’ve won either year. But 2024 was an embarrassment for the franchise, the one bright spot was Kucherov and his efforts weren’t even enough to win the Hart(I know I sound snobby saying that, still salty about McK winning it this year man wtf). Otherwise they got exposed badly by the Panthers. The main issue was the defense which was pretty terrible this season and a major step down from previous years. So with that in mind if the Lightning aren’t experiencing playoff success and there defense is bad in those playoffs, and Sergachev is one of the biggest pieces of said bad defenses then it’s not a bad move to move him. Especially when he’s making the kind of money you’d expect for a super star. As well if Geekie turns out to be a star that’s gonna make Tampa real interesting for the next fifteen years.

imo this playoff season and the Panthers grinding it out against the Oilers offense has shown that the Devils will need to be able to muck it up in the playoffs to win. I wish Tom Fitzgerald would have traded Palat to Vegas instead of Holtz. Fitzgerald deserves to be in the hot seat and on a leash. Last offseason Schmid's agent asked the Devils for more money -- thus the Schmid move is kind of not surprising. I liked Akira Schmid. He proved himself when he saved the series against the Rangers.
