Old school game for sure. New York and NJ were both on fire about NHL hockey after this one. You don't hear much about the NHL before the playoffs on NY talk radio these days, but this game was at the top of every broadcast. Rangers and Devils don't like each other and that stretches back to the 1994 ECF coming down to Game 7, a game that if the Devils had won, they would probably have 4 cups. The bad blood is now generational.

I remember lots of those fights years ago. It was time to go to the washroom, get a drink and come back 10 minutes later when I got to watch some actual hockey start back up. Booooorrrriiinnnggg stuff, all that fighting. If you like it, you have other real options to watch. It should all be treated as deliberate attempt to injure, since that is what they are doing. This is why I gravitated more towards football the past 20 something years. Players get hit, start quarterbacks get hit and you don't see so called goons or enforcers going after the guy who does the hitting. Modern NHL players should be playing non contact hockey, because they go after anyone that lays a good hit. Not talking about that Rempe idiot... those were not good hits. He got suspended, so that should have been the end of the episode.

Fighting is a great tradition in the game of hockey. Especially when you see that players settle their “beef” and gain respect with eachother. Rempe has 69 PIM in his short 14-game NHL career. He's recorded an average of 5 minutes and 26 seconds of ice time per game, for a total TOI of 76 minutes and 4 seconds. In his three games against the Devils, he's racked up 47 penalty minutes in 5 minutes and 3 seconds of ice time. His first game, and this game on April 3rd, he tallied 30 penalty minutes and just 15-seconds of ice time... He must have the lowest PIM to TOI average ever (sadly, the free stats sites don't let you search for that combination) with just 1.1 TOI/PIM... [TOI wasn't tracked by the NHL until the 1997-98 season] He's averaging 4.93 penalty minutes per game, well ahead of the all-time PIM leaders Dave Williams, Dale Hunter, Tie Domi, and Marty McSorley. Of top players by PIM, only Steve Durbano has a higher average of 5.12 PIM/G in Regular Season, and a career average of 5.04 PIM/G including the Playoffs. [Durbano only played 8 seasons in the NHL from 1972-1979] It'll be interesting to see how long his career will be...

I was watching this game and I saw all the fight LET'S GO DEVILS
@esbeezy898 ай бұрын
What the hell did we witness? So no one watched hockey in 2012? That game started with both 4th lines fighting and DeBoer and Tortorella about jumping over the glass at each other. It's called the Hudson River Rivalry for a reason. And we play passionate hockey up here. Bout time y'all noticed.

Those two checks from behind to the board... Two days ago, NYI had in Philly two same checks, one injuring Couturier, and none got called. More interestingly, they have scored two goals from ensuing breakaways. That's predictable officiating...

The NHL doesn't care about cheap shots and injured players. Besides, most of the games are fixed. Gambling is a huge industry in sports now.

GREAT NARRATIVE AND COVERAGE, THANKS! This is exciting to see. GOOD GAWD I love hockey! This will set up an intense rivalry for years. Being a Ranger fan, though, Rempe's hits remind me of the questionable stuff Marchand does all the time. And I HATE that guy! I hope he gets some coaching to hit hard but clean, and then kick their butts in fights.
@mattfromwiisports62098 ай бұрын
The problem is that Matt Rempe was a doing it absolutely on purpose, as he literally told fans he was going after players. He an unsafe hockey player and should be banned from the league before he seriously injures somebody or ends there career

Fully agree.
@richardprescott59398 ай бұрын
Huh? What are you talking about
@danp23068 ай бұрын
The NHL's quality of play has fallen and they only care about politics. So, they are showcasing this goon who cheap shots every game. They don't care about player safety or anything like that. But, at least, fans will talk about this guy.
@gregorsmith8 ай бұрын
I'm telling ya players are gonna target his knee if he keeps running around...bye bye ACL
@richardprescott59398 ай бұрын
@@gregorsmithJust goes to show you know absolutely nothing about hockey. The only guys that are going to target his knees are the guys that target everyone's knees. Players aren't going to target him because he will annihilate them if they do. The tough guys will fight him, but that's it. They all respect each other because they all know that they could take one as well. It's a tough league.

That first hit was clean old fashioned hockey and the league needs more of this kinda play
@ProfesseurTou2 ай бұрын
Why?
@Alec-x5l2 ай бұрын
@@ProfesseurTou because the league is soft as hell and they need to bring back fighting in a big way. Goons have always been a thing and they are going away which makes actual cheap hits go unanswered. The dude is almost seven feet tall if he goes for a hit it is almost always going to be considered high he isn’t aiming for skulls.

Rangers have a hell of a team this season and the Devils could win against any team and also be humbled and lose to any team this season, more times the latter. When Jack missed the penalty shot against Anaheim with 2 seconds left to tie it, from basically a gifted penalty shot from Vetrano, I knew there wouldn't be a post season. Blowing leads over and over in games after this happened showcases the fork in the road they took not to make the playoffs.

In Rempke's interview, he paid McDermit a huge compliment while calling him the toughest guy he has fought. He's young, he'll learn when to go and when not to go. But WE ALL KNEW those two were going to go. They didn't get to go last time. However, trouba needs to show him how to hit hard, but clean. Keep those wings tucked in. Play the game, the other stuff will come and go from there, but don't go in there looking for a fight
