Back in the early 70's when i was first learning to play the guitar, I built up the calluses like most player do. But when you get to be in your later years, your skins don't rebuild and shed the same. The super glue trick is not new to most of the semi and pro players that I perform with. I play several different types of string instruments and that makes getting a consistent callus going. What you have stumbled on is not new. It's just not talked about much because of the stigma attached to it. But, I look at it this way; I'm going on 50 years of playing and I still make money at it. It's not cheating, no more than using fingerpicks and capos. Those too used to be shunned as sissy. I play - 6 string, 12 string, bass, banjo, dobro, pedal steel, fiddle, and mandolin. Whatever it takes to stay in the business.

Out of those instruments, would you say mandolin is the worst on your fingers?

@@aaronwalker5253 Twelve string guitars are the worst. Mandolin really not as bad.

THIS is a common solution among musicians and there are a bunch of videos about doing this if you are starting out or maybe haven't played in weeks or months and want to get calloused up fast. Your skin will build callouses under the super glue. When you don't want it anymore, or get it on the wrong place, nail polish remover on a tissue from the dollar store does the trick. Before you ask.. yes I do this trick when I haven't played acoustic in a long time and my fingers are softened from my extra light flat wound low set strings (thickness of a dime above the frets) on my electric guitar.

PS.. Super glue is used medically.. search on here for "medical uses for super glue?" It was even used by field medics.

I use nail glue to make fake calluses when my fingers are too bruised to play on their own. It helps when I want to keep practicing.

Rock Tips is a product on Amazon that is sold for the exact purpose your video describes. Rock Tips may be more expensive than superglue, I haven't checked yet, but it's exactly the same liquid as what is in superglue.

Is it really the same? They say it is more skin friendly.

This is not a short cut this is another tool and very useful when youre playing 5-7 hr gigs and your fingers are shredded to pieces

Thanks for the watch and comment. I can't stress enough that you have to be careful with super glue; it can become a nightmare. They don't last as long as I wish but they give a few good hours of playing. Hope they work for you!

It's kind of a crutch though. I mean you're going to eventually want to have real callus. It's good if you bust open a callous and you really have to play or something though
