Ingredients:
2 tsp Olive Oil
1 Tbsp Butter
1 small Onion, diced
1 cup Carrots, chopped (about 2 or 3 carrots)
1 cup Celery, chopped (2 stalks)
3 large cloves Garlic, pressed or minced (about 1 Tbsp)
1 tsp Salt (more to taste)
1/2 tsp Pepper
1/4 tsp Poultry Seasoning
1/2 tsp Sage, dried
1/2 tsp Tyme dried
1 4" sprig Fresh Rosemary, 2 tsp leaves, stripped off and minced (or 1 tsp dried & crushed)
4 cups Chicken Broth, low sodium
1 large Potato, chopped
1 1/2 lbs Chicken breasts, cut in slightly larger than bite sized pieces
To Finish
1 cup Frozen Peas (or mixed vegetables)
1/2 cup Heavy Cream
6 Jjumbo Canned Buttermilk Refrigerator Biscuits (16 oz pkg contains 8)
Directions:
Roll each canned biscuit one flat and cut into 6 equal slices. Do this to all 6 and set aside in a bowl. You can also just cut them and not roll them flat.
Prepare the Chicken and Sauce
Turn the pressure cooker on to the Sauté setting. When the pot is hot, add the olive oil and the butter. Then add the onion and and stir.
Add the carrot, celery, and garlic. Cook for a few minutes, scraping the bottom of the pot to get up any brown bits (deglaze).
Add the salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, sage, thyme, and rosemary. Cook for a few seconds to let the spices become fragrant.
Add the chicken broth. Put a glass lid on the pot and let the contents warm up to barely a simmer.
Add the potato and chicken and stir.
Cook for 10-15 minutes. When it is done, do a quick release and take off the lid.
Add the sliced biscuits into the broth and gently stir to distribute them.
Press the cancel function.
Place the lid on the pot and lock in place. Turn the steam release knob to the sealing position.
Press the Pressure Cook/Manual button (or dial) and then the + or - button (or dial) to select 10 minutes.
When the cooking cycle has finished, do a Quick Release.
When the pin in the lid drops down, open the lid carefully, and stir in the frozen peas or mixed vegetables.
Stir in the heavy cream (if using) and put the glass lid on to let it sit and heat through.
Taste and adjust salt, if needed.

I started making this for my wife's Birthday since it was her favorite dish. It was almost done as she walked into the door and asked me what I was making. I told her and you could see the look in her eyes. I said what? she said I don't think it will have the taste as the traditional way. So I kept on cooking and when it was done you should have seen the smile on her face. She told me this was one of the best meals I have made in a long time. She also said, don't loose that recipe.

TRY THIS: Put the dry spices in first into a dry pot and 'toast' the spices. Then add in the oil & butter, then saute the onion, celery.... See if that makes a difference.

Substitutions: Due to lack of availability with some of the ingredients, Tonight I substituted frozen chicken tenderloins for chicken breasts. I had them thawing for about 2 hours before cutting them into small chunks. They were still mostly solid but since they are smaller thinner pieces, the cooking time was about the same. I think I did 18 minutes instead of 15 for the first round. I also used pillsbury crescent rolls instead of the biscuits. The crescent rolls were rolled out, cut up and arranged the same way as the instructions. The end result was a softer dumpling that was definitely cooked all the way through. Hope this is helpful!

works great. i love that it has stainless steal pot inside kzbin.infoUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg and not the one with coating. we used to have a coated pot before, and the coating slowly peels, and i am sure went into the food that we cooked. Absolutely love stainless steel, and will not use a coated product again. This pot has many settings and many buttons, and i need to sit down with a manual to figure out which setting to use. I used the basic functions, and even though i am not technologically skilled, i turned it on and assembled it without any help.Very satisfied with this product overall.

I made this tonight. I made it pretty much exactly the way the recipe called for except I added another potatoe, a little more poultry seasoning and pepper, I used the whole can of bisquits. First, thank you, ladies! Awesome channel! I have been watching for a while. My crock pot stoneware has cracked and It was the push I needed. I got my instant pot and of course, chicken and dumplings is my favorite! My wife is an extremely picky eater ... ugg! But this is one of thing, she repeatedly asks me to make. I saw someone post about substituting the "canned biscuits." I agree, they are easy... but switching it with Bisquick makes a HUGE difference. I would also switch the cream for a can of campbell's cream of chicken soup.

I'm trying celery in ours today. I grew up on my grams recipe. Just chicken, seasonings, biscuits. She of course made her dumplings from scratch but I can't ever get mine just right so I use canned. I make 6 quarts because my kids, grandson, as well as hubby & myself eat on it for a cpl of days lol this will be my 1st time making it in the instant pot. I'm praying it's a hit. Also, I don't have heavy cream on hand so milk it is lol 😆

Hate to be critical but chicken and dumplings are a staple here in the south. I've never, ever had anyone's version with potatoes in it. Why on earth would you want dumplings made with flour (starch) and potatoes (starch), way under seasoned as well. Also if you want to make it use an entire cut up chicken, or at least a couple of breast and thigh meat, you know a good mixture of white and dark meats.

Yum. Thanks so much! This looks a lot like chicken pot pie “in a pot.” Our Tennessee family has always done chicken and dumplings like Cracker Barrel serves. Homemade rolled and cut biscuits. No cream. Stirring the biscuits does thicken the broth.

Here's a tip i bet you and your family and many people would like. At a winter campout for alot of people I went to, i was one of the main kooks😁 cooks. I made two big pots of chikin n dumplins, a southern family staple, i got a crazy idea to add radish to the kettles. The ones i had were quite large so i cut them into 3rds. When the meal was done kookin the radish had turned very light pink and had a consistancy of soft water chestnut/sortof. They still retained a slight bite to the radish. I and the people Loved them. Didnt tell them until they asked what it was and most had second bowl. I was a hero that evening. Yippee!!! 😊😊😊🏁🏁🏁 Hope you try it and let us know what you think about this simple addition. Thank You so much for the Love you're sharing with us. 😊😊🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

My mother always used the fluffy dumplings too! Found her recipe the other day so I’m going to try it with this. Blend together 1c flour, 2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt. Using pastry blender (or two knives) cut in 3 tbsp of shortening (butter, margarine, etc). Stir in 1/2 c milk, 1 tsp dried parsley (optional) and 1/4 c grated carrot (optional). Blend until flour is just moistened. Drop by large spoonfuls into simmering stew. Regular time cooking is 15 min with tight lid on. I’m going to try the 10 minutes used for the biscuits.

Prep Time 20 minutes Cook Time 15 minutes Pressure Build 10 minutes Pressure Instant Release 3 minutes Total time: Approx. 48 minutes 4 servings. Double ingredients for 8 servings. Ingredients 1-pound Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast 1/3 onion diced 1/3 cup Baby Carrots 1/3 cup Celery 1 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. Pepper (optional) 2 cups of water I can of cream of chicken soup 6 refrigerated biscuits Instructions Prepare 1/3 cup of each: diced onions, ½ inch cut pieces of carrots and ½ inch cut celery. Cut chicken in 1-inch pieces Add 2 cups of water and one can of cream of chicken soup to Instant Pot. Stir well. Now add chicken, onion, carrots, and celery to instant pot. Add salt and pepper (optional). Stir well. Place Instant Pot lid on. Set Pressure cook on high and set the timer to 8 minutes. During the pressure pot cooking of chicken and vegetables, put flour on cutting board and roll each biscuit flat, then cut each biscuit into 8 equal pieces. Remember, biscuit pieces become larger when cooked. When Instant Pot is finished carefully release instant Pot pressure. Remove Instant Pot lid. Press Sauté button and add biscuit pieces. Stir slowly for about 7 minutes. After 7 minutes, check one or two pieces of dumpling to see if they are done. If done serve in bowls and enjoy. Set Instant Pot on warm to keep warm for additional servings.

Your version of chicken and dumplins is interesting. I would love to try it. I am from the south and we would prob call this a chicken and dumplin veggie stew?

@@elic903 It did motivate me to cook some real c & d after watching this video and they were the best that I have ever made. Yes, it can be done in the ip. That saute button works great and then you can switch to the slow cooker once you get them thickened up. I had pressure cooked my frozen ch thighs for 20 min with 2 cups of broth.

I can't help but ask before I make this, with the two different times, are the carrots and potatoes mush by that point? I'd like to adjust time to avoid that happening

They have come out with a few newer versions of Instant Pot, Duo Plus and Duo Crisp. Also different sizes 6 or 8 qt. Can you please recommend if you had your choice of the "newer version" which one would you like? Thank you.

This is similar to my version but I like to sprinkle a little bit of seasoned flour ( flour+ poultry season) on the board when I roll out the biscuits. It's the easiest way to thicken the gravy and helps them from clumping together

I tried to copy and paste the recipe, but it wouldn’t let me. Is there a link to click on so I can save it? I love Chicken and Dumplings and would love to try this recipe. Also, can you skip the heavy cream?

Do you let it manually release when it's done and you are putting in the biscuits

Are there two cook sessions or one? There’s a 15 minute one and also a 10 minute one? Or should there just be one cook session? It’s confusing when you watch the video. I notice others have this question. I ended up using someone else’s video and they only cooked 8 mins with natural release. Also they cut biscuits in 1/4 and they plumped up really nice. They sautéed a little longer before cooking and added a little flour to thicken before cooking everything

Thinking about making C&D in the Instant Pot tonight for supper but I have a question that I hope can be answered. I'm doing just the chicken and canned biscuits so do I need cut down on the liquid (chicken broth)? You used 4 cups here for all those other ingredients but with just the biscuits and chicken, logically I'd say I'd have to.....any help folks?
