I just made another instant pot recipe version and I used a whole cut-up chicken in pressure for 10 minutes and then removed to de-bone after cooling. The "dumplings' are made from scratch and are rolled out into strips-like 1" x 2" noodles almost but not taken through the pressure cycle- added during the boil to cook for 10 minutes. The rest is similar to yours, except for no peas- I might add them next time since it adds some color. .

This is my new favorite kitchen tool! Day 1 I was going to pressure cook a meat kzbin.infoUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg and potato stew, decided I wouldn't eat it that night so I went with a slow cook so I could go to bed and put it away in the morning. I love that versatility! The sauté feature works great and adds tons of extra flavor to dishes, and I can easily sizzle meats in the bottom then deglaze for some restaurant worthy flavors.Big bonus - you can cook a whole frozen chicken in about 2 hours. Amazing! I've seen a couple videos, haven't tried it yet, but I will soon!

I made this last night and it came out perfect! Thank you for the recipe! Got home late and didn't brown the chicken or saute the onions, just put all the ingredients in the instant pot raw. The chicken and peas were frozen. And it tasted absolutely awesome. So flavorful, and yummy. Cooked for 10 minutes. I added just a half pinch of sage with the thyme.

My insta pot is the duo evo plus. So when I press the pressure cook option there are different options to choose from. Should I do the custom setting? If so should it be on high or low heat? I assume high? Mine also goes into a keep warm setting and I’m not sure if I’m suppose to let it go through that process after the cooking timer is done?
@ericd.44605 жыл бұрын
That is the model that I have as well, so yes, use custom most all the time, and yes on the high setting which is the default setting. Keep warm also will be on every time by default. If you just leave it alone when the cook time is up, it will begin slow releasing the pressure, and that might take 10 minutes. Or you can choose to quick release. When you quick release, your food will stop cooking and just stay warm. With slow release, you're still going to have a little cooking going on during that ten minutes, so it's something to be mindful of.

Im sorry but that looks more like a chicken potpie to me. Especially since you have the biscuits all covered the top. Hey I reckon everyone makes 'em different but that just aint my traditional southern dumplings. Also if you dont want to make the dumplings from scratch there's these ones that you cam by at the grocery store that work amazingly I use them every now and again when i want the flatter noodle like dumplings and I make then homemade when I want thicker ones. The brand is Anne's old fashioned flat dumplings in the freezer section with the frozen biscuits and garlic bread. Its a dark orangish red box with yellow in the design as well. Google them if interested. Thanks to the content creator for some tips I didn't know that will come in handy though.

This turned out pretty well. I don't have a instant pot cooker, I have an electric pressure cooker. I'm guessing at least 6-8 quart. I noticed yours was pretty full. Mine was just at the bottom. My question is how do you add the ingredients to make it in my pot? I guess just double up the ingredients. It's just my husband and I so maybe a smaller cooker would do better. The biscuits didn't do so well, they were a little tough. Over all it was a little dry. But it was tasty and I would make it again. Do you know the difference between a pressure cooker and a instant pot? This cooking thing is so new to me. Sorry for all the questions.
@christinagaffney20546 жыл бұрын
pressure cookers are all basically the same, instant pot is just the name brand of pressure cooker, it's equivalent to a cosori, insignia, presto, go wise, etc
@Thespicyapron6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mylene! Yes, Christina is correct that pressure cookers are fundamentally the same. Each brand may have different buttons or functions, but they work pretty much the same. I was using a 3 quart in this video, which is why it looked full. The recipe can be doubled for larger pots, but I would not double the flour. Too much flour in a pressure cooker can cause it to get too thick too quickly and not come to pressure. It will still be really good that way!

Chicken n dumplings is my favorite. I’m in the south so we probably do things differently. Mama roll out her dough or biscuits if she used the canned ones and dropped them into a boiling pot of broth. Salt and pepper. Daddy didn’t like the chicken so she served it separate. No veggies. Don’t know if I’ve ever seen veggies in chicken n dumplings. But I will eat it anyway it is served. When I make it, I use bisquick. I’ve never mastered the art of biscuit making. Thanks for the tutorial. Just used my Instant Pot tonight for the first time. Made chicken noodle soup.

Take 1 heaped tablespoon of self-raising=self-rising flour per person / sieve into a bowl / add a good pinch of salt / add enough water to create a light dough / knead it on a floured surface / cut into dumpling-sized pieces / roll into balls. Finish the chicken recipe above! PS: Use baking powder plus plain (=all-purpose) flour if you prefer.

@Thespicyapron6 жыл бұрын
Hey John! This easily feeds 4, so you should get 8 servings if you double it. I don't have an 8 quart so I can't say how well it works doubling. The only thing I would suggest is maybe don't double the flour, that could be too much for any one pot and cause the dreaded "burn" to come up. You can always thicken it more after it's done by adding a slurry of 2 tablespoons cornstarch and 2 tablespoons water. Let me know how it turns out! I'd love to know.

I saw how full your pot was and wondered if you were worried. Personally I like my Pressure Cooker and Slow Cooker to have plenty in it but I have a couple of technical questions. I live alone so I tend to batch cook and freeze in portions. I cannot remember the last time I had dumplings, more than 60+ years ago probably 70 so have not experience of freezing and re-heating them - that would probably a quick Miro-wave reheat unless you advise otherwise. Cream - I tend to avoid cream and milk in dishes because I am concerned about the freezning. I would omit the cream part. Never been a fan of creamy soups, for instance anyway. Would that detract too much? I know it is a while since this was output. I like your presentation, zany and followable for a basically incompetant wannae be cook.
@Thespicyapron3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, James! Yes, my pot is full because I used the 3 quart, but it wouldn't be that close to the top in a 6 quart. My "Burn" message came on so I stopped and scraped the bottom of the pot clean, the started pressure again only to get the burn message after about 10 min. Could this be because of the added flour?
@Thespicyapron6 жыл бұрын
Oh no! Bummer. I've made this several times and haven't had that issue, but yes, you could try cutting the flour in half next time you make it to see if that helps. The other way to make it and still make sure it's nice and thick is to eliminate the flour altogether and mix a slurry of 2 tablespoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water and add that after it pressure cooks, release the steam, remove the lid, press cancel to turn the pot off, then turn the pot onto Saute, add the slurry (you'll have to dig through the dumplings) and simmer for a minute or so. That will thicken it right up too. Then add the peas and cream. Both ways should work. Sorry you got the dreaded "burn" message!! :(

Thanks for your comment and you're not the only one who said that. This is one of my older videos and I listened to you guys! So I took out the music. Here's one of my newer ones! I hope you like it! :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnqVcp2drKidfK8

How much total chicken broth?
@Thespicyapron6 жыл бұрын
I used 2 which is perfect for 4 average servings. If you want larger servings, then just add another cup or 2 and it will still be great!
