Hi Guys, today I’m reviewing the Instant Pot IP-DUO60 7-in-1 Programmable Pressure Cooker, 6Qt/1000W. DEMO and RECIPES
LINK to Instant Pot Pressure Cooker: amzn.to/1ORKP6Q
LINK to Sealing Ring: amzn.to/1VzBgZf
LINK to Glass Lid: amzn.to/1ORKTn6
If you didn’t grow up with a pressure cooker in the house, it’s easy to be scared of one. The old cook top units are very loud and hiss at you. They work but are not very accurate. You have to figure out when your food is cooked. The Instant Pot is supposed to be quieter. The control panel has 14 smart programs and it’s supposed to be very accurate. The advantage of a pressure cooker is that it cooks twice as fast or faster than in a regular pot on the stove. Steam builds up inside the pot and cooks food faster. That saves time and energy. Whatever you’re cooking tastes really flavorful because the spices have nowhere to go except into your meat or beans or anything else you put in here. All the cooking is done in one pot so it’s convenient. The instant pot uses 10 safety mechanisms to keep it safe for use.

BTW, the silicon seal ring around the lid WILL pick up and retain odors from spicy foods. Amazon has replacement rings for a couple of dollars. We use one for cooking savories and the other just for our yogurts and deserts.

In another video I saw that one tip was to use the trivet, pour some water and then put on top another pot (can be glass oven safe or stainless steel) that way you can put your meat with less water on that pot while under the trivet there is more water to help with the pressure. Either way I think this product could be a good buy. Thanks for the review!

At least 1 cup liquid is necessary. Using broth is a good option instead of water. If unit is not coming to pressure, and especially if you sauteed anything, if you didn't de-glaze the pot, the pot will detect that and will think there's something scorched on the bottom of the pot (and there just might be), which will kick in that safety feature. Remove the food, de-glaze the pot with a bit of water or broth and a wooden spoon, place the food in again, make sure the sealing ring is in well (I find rinsing it in cold water before replacing is helpful), lock lid, set to "sealing," and program. I enjoyed your video. Thank you.

Tony Locicero It appears this review was more of a first impression with out actually any knowledge of how to properly use the Instant Pot. I love my Instant Pot and use it almost daily. Like you I don't find it necessary to use that much water unless I want to for the recipe. And obviously the time it takes to come up to heat and build up steam varies by recipe as well. 😊

You are right. I for one don't use the poultry button ... Looks like she had it on low pressure for the rice .. BUT You need high pressure for the pot to work on the poultry this is why you had so much water in the pot at the end of cooking time.. She did use to much water..

This review was incredibly helpful! I just got an instant pot to take to college with me and I was a little afraid of using it, but this showed me that it was simpler than I assumed. I mostly make rice or other grains and beans so this should be great. I used to have to sit by the stove whenever I was cooking rice or chicken but now I can do homework or study without worrying something's going to spill over or go wrong.

When I retired I took over most of the cooking and cleaning of the kitchen and have been happy doing so. I received an Instant Pot for Christmas and have been mad and upset ever since. The only thing I have managed to cook without a Burning sign coming up is boiled eggs. I thought I'd try it again today and once again the Burning sign came up. I am an old man (will be 70 this year) and I don't do well with new toys. I'll keep cooking with conventional pots, pans and dutch ovens. Sorry, but I just had to take my rage out about this thing and get it out of my system.

I received my Instant Pot about ten days ago. I ran the water test and it worked perfectly. Next day I followed some KZbin videos and cooked a pot roast that came out wonderful. A few days later I prepared everything, seared and started a beef stew but the pot wouldn't pressurize. I tried everything including making sure the pressure valve was clean and the seal was properly seated but nothing worked. I ended up finishing the stew in the oven. I should mention that when I received the Instant Pot I noticed that the cover over the pressure valve I'd seen in the KZbin videos before I ordered mine was missing. So I eMailed the manufacturer who responded promptly and told me the design was changed and that cover was no longer needed. So it seems that problems with this pressure valve is not something new. Bottom line is the Instant Pot concept is very seductive and I'd really like to have one but it seems there is a lurking failure in the design that I'd rather not have to worry about. So I eMailed Amazon and they had UPS pick mine up today for a refund. I wonder how many others have had failures after initial success(es). Should I consider myself lucky that mine quit working early-on rather than after the warranty period expired.

I received this lovely cooker for Christmas and have been playing around with it to see what I can and can not do with it. I have never used a pressure cooker and this one seems to have SOO many options and features. I like this. I actually had just one question. There doesn't seem to be anything electrical in the lid itself and while I will not be placing it in the dishwasher, I wonder if it is safe to wash it under running water with a scrubby in the sink. The first time i washed it it took me a long time because I tried not to use too much water (just in case). After a couple of uses though I am getting braver and rinsed the inside of the lid under running tap water. It is now nice and squeaky clean and did not seem to impact the unit in a negative way. I would feel a lot better knowing that I can do this again and I didn't just get lucky the one time by rinsing it. Thanks again for the great review. I appreciate the honesty and the way you showed the sautee feature. very cool :)

Just thought I'd update the comments I made last month. I ended up buying the 5 quart Instant Pot Duo as other reviews and comments elsewhere were so positive. I'm glad I did. Really interesting comments about the volume of water required compared to a stove top version. I have a late model Fagor duo and I love using it for Risotto, stews etc because there’s no excess fluid. Still, the Instant Pot looks good, convenient, and well priced, so I think I’ll get one. Excellent presentation, thank you.

A good review except, 9:57 even stovetop pressure cooking would require minimum one cup of water otherwise the same result would happen with only half a cup of water where it evaporates away instead of building pressure. Besides. a pressure cooker isn't to be used in lieu of conventional cooking. It's mainly meant for dishes like stews, sauces, soups and anything which requires a lot of liquid for cooking. I have cooked ribs, fryers and roasts in mine by using the steam tray so the food isn't immersed in the liquid. I did add one to one and a half cups of liquid depending on how much meat I was cooking. I wouldn't bother using it for rice as it takes twenty-five plus minutes just to cook something I know I can do in fifteen minutes or less on the stovetop or the rice cooker.

The trivet that comes with the unit could have been used to elevate the chicken up out of the liquid. The chicken would have cooked the same and still absorbed the flavor from the spices, onion, etc...

So it takes 9 minutes to warm up before you start cooking? On my traditional pressure cooker Itcan boil a cup or two of water in under a minute and then have the potatoes cooked wihin three minutes! I thought the main advantage of a steam pressure cooker is speed?

Very nice and thorough review! 1/2 cup of water should be plenty to reach and maintain pressure in the chicken dish you were demonstrating, though it may take longer than the two minutes you allowed to reach pressure. As you correctly point out, the Instant Pot allows for very little evaporation, less than other electric pressure cookers tested. Join us here if you like: facebook.com/groups/InstantPotCommunity/

In the review you did say not to fill it too much, what about if you have a big family or party and want to cook a tad bit more, say near full would that be a problem (explosively)? Kinda like stand by the doorway while it pressurizes just in case? Does it have a safety feature for scatter-brains like me who will forget the valve is not unsealed and try to open the lid? Does it have a safety feature to prevent lid opening before depressurizing? Nice review, I have always looked at pressure cookers such as these as I would a tamed lion or a toothless tiger, It can bite if it forgets it is tamed...Do you feel safe standing near it while it cooks? Or do you have to have one hand on your door knob?
@bestkitchenreviews
@bestkitchenreviews 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, with any pressure cooker - you shouldn't fill above the max line marked inside the pot. There is safety lid lock, so you can't open the lid under pressure. There is also a sensor for lid position, so you can't operate the unit if the lid is not properly sealed. Lol, I don't have one hand on my door knob! I feel it's safe to use and has plenty of safety mechanisms. Hope that helps :)

You should not need 2 cups of water or stock, 1 cup should be sufficient to build pressure. I suspect you have an issue with your valve, since it also seemed to be stuck in the up position, even though there was no pressure.

Hi, thank you - glad the video was helpful. The pressure cooker worked well overall. Like I had mentioned before, the water issue may be because I had a defective unit. Others have commented that they did not have the same issue with their unit. I would definitely give this pressure cooker a try. Please subscribe if you haven't already :)

Thank you for your reply. andre id, I agree with you that there are to many chief's and not enough Indians in the world. People are very selfish, always want to be on top and stubborn. Sorry I went off the path here. LOL I did do some homework on most pressure cookers and think I seem to be leaning toward the Instant pot, because sources say it does not have dangerous metals that food cook on. I do like that aspect. Thanks again and take care :)

very clear and helpful video.. thank you for reviewing. I learned a lot - just got my pc today so I want to review how to use it before I get to cooking. I have a Fagor pressure cooker which I use all the time on our induction stove top. Can't say enough good things about that.. Crock pot died and now buried.. Prefer and now replaced it with the Instant Pot. Im sure it will get a lot of use as I never seem to get out of the kitchen! :)

Lol🤣 Rice isn't soup. Chicken releases water when cooking and a 1/2 to 1 cup of water would have been enough; she simply added too much water. This unit doesn't cook only soup. You can even make yogurt plus the sautee function helps a lot when you just want some sauce and not soup; Just like she said you can simmer down your liquid. This is a great unit. Thank you🙏🏾

I like fluffy rice where the grains don't stick together. Will this cooker do that? It didn't look very fluffy in the demo. I'm still trying to decide which brand of pressure cooker to get.

I haven't even opened my box yet and I think I'm going to return it. I could have cooked those thighs so much easier and faster in my little cast iron ceramic coated pan with lid- faster and juicy without so much nonsense! This seems like such a time waster! I love my little ceramic coated dutch ovens- they can be used for everything!

Great video....but I disagree with your assumption that you need 2 cups of liquid to bring to pressure. I have two instant pots and I can tell you for certain you do not need 2 cups.
@bestkitchenreviews
@bestkitchenreviews 8 жыл бұрын
+missmonasuzette Hi, I actually tested it out with 1/2 cup, 1 cup and 2 cups. 2 cups worked which is the reason I pointed it out :) However, if you are cooking a larger quantity of food, you might not need as much water. I cooked a small amount of food and needed more liquid in order for the float valve to rise.

+bestkitchenreviews The parts of your review showing the different parts of the IP and some of the settings was great! I've got it saved. I agree with missmonasuzette and Pot Insight though that the Instant Pot definitely does not need more than 1/2 cup of liquid even to cook whole yams, etc, or as few as a few pieces of meat/etc. It simply needs enough water to cover the bottom of the inner pot, especially if there insufficient natural liquid from the foods. I've cooked quite a number of things in mine, including chicken thighs with sauteed onions similar to yours and your amounts, without adding more than 1/2 cup of liquid as instructed in other places, and the pressure has built up normally and the food has cooked nicely. I'm wondering if your Venting/Sealing lever had not gotten set *completely* on Sealing (the lever is loose so that can happen) which would keep the pressure from building up as quickly as normal. Or perhaps there is a problem with the float valve on your particular unit since it seemed a little stiff (mine never ever needs tapping down). You might contact the Instant Pot manufacturers about that if so.

Thank you for posting this. Maybe I could use your instructions, since I've contacted this company several times about the fact that I just bought it and don't have the instruction manual or any of the enclosed information. They have completely ignored me. From what I could see there is no instruction manual on their website. Do you have any suggestions as to how I might get a response from them thanks I haven't watched your video yet but I would still enjoy having the materials. I wrote a bad review on Amazon because of this experience but they still have ignored me. Thanks
