@ Hard to say if the Lions SB window is closed. It could be though, just too soon to tell right now. There are 33 Lions players that are free agents this offseason, but only 1 is top tier (Carlton Davis) and a few we would like to keep (Dan Skipper, Tim Patrick). However 2026 Lions free agents is another story, quite a few top tier players, so the cap will greatly be affected. Perhaps not next year, but the year after Lions SB window could close since cap will be bigger concern in 2026.

Everyone rips on Caleb for his rookie year. He wasn’t great, obviously. But to throw for 3500 yards- 20td and 6 picks is damn decent for his surroundings and coaching staff. Had 3 game winning drives that ended up failing due to Hail Mary, blocked field goal

I mean, tbh, his stats were almost identical to Jayden Daniels stats during the regular season. Jayden had 3 more Tds than Caleb but 3 more picks, and I believe 100ish yards more but look at the difference what they were working with. Caleb did that with abysmal coaching, the worst Oline in the league and put those numbers up. You watch Jayden vs the Lions on his best plays where he was launching stuff down the field ... he wasn't running for his life when the ball was snapped and would stand in one spot while his guys had all day to get wide open which they did. Jayden Daniels would not have put up half of his numbers under what Caleb dealt with.

Lions fan here. Congratulations to the Bears on a great hire. Ben is definitely one of the most innovative offensive minds out there. Very likeable. He loves his craft so much. It will be a big challenge to morph into a top head coach like McVay or Shanahan. I hope that Pols and Warren are of the same mindset as Johnson. I bet you see.the Bears drafting offensive and defensive linemen like crazy. Should be fun when the Lions and Bears get together.

Hey John, during the initial interview with Ben Johnson it was reported that given he got the job, he planned to design an offense completely around Caleb’s skill set. So we can look to see creativity along with an easier ramp up for Caleb that plays to his strengths, not necessarily needing Caleb to completely absorb the lions offense.

Exactly. 4000 total yards, 20 TDs, 6 INTs, 3 should have been game winning drives(thanks Eberflus), and the longest streak ever by a rookie of not throwing picks. To act like he was bad is foolish. If you had the unrealistic expectations of the Bears winning 11+ games and Caleb having a fringe MVP level season, sure, it was bad. But most teams would jump for joy at those numbers if that was their rookie QB. Caleb gets unfairly criticized for numbers and games that most rookies would never. He needs to get better, 100%. But these media pundits(Middlekauf, Canty, etc etc) acting like he was bad didn’t pay attention to all the games.

Caleb pretty much had the same numbers as CJ stroud and Mathew stafford. The entire bears team never played their best together. Either Caleb would have a good game but the WRs would drop the ball, or Caleb would be off when the receivers open, or the O-line would just be bad. It wasn’t just on one player.

@@pjscott2093 yeah Goff is really good with Tight formations and Empty, doing quick game and they had the O-Line to take deep shots as well. The problem with a bad O-Line like the Bears have, you get too predictable with quick game…but you also can’t get into 2nd & short under center running the ball either… And with the WR’s they have, maybe they will do what the Rams did a few years ago and do a lot of under center with 11 personnel. With that scheme you need to have WR’s that block well and an O-Line that is more athletic than normal, and can move laterally.

@ all true, the problem i have evaluating what the bears were or will be is that they did everything wrong on almost all levels…built a bad roster that wasnt even that good on paper but certainly didnt fit what they were trying to do schemewise…and about that scheme, it was garbage…basically they wanted to screen the corners up then throw sideline tracking out cuts that the QB couldnt throw. Its like they chose the wrong option in every respect…coaching, drafting, free agency, trades nothing to feel good about🤷

Is this offensive line really that bad? Going into last year no one was saying that group was a weakness, as a matter of fact they were top half of the league in the final PFF ranking. Darnell Wright was looked at as a stud Tackle and they had had some other really good pieces. Ben Johnson play calling was atrocious Saturday night. David Montgomery had no business starting or playing. Three and out. Gibbs only gets 14 carries for 109 yards. Gibbs could of rushed for 300 yards on that crummy Washington defence. Washington's defence couldn't stop a high school running game. The Jamo pass was the dumbest play call in NFL history. I'm not sure how this is going to go. Not all coordinators make good HC's. I question whether he can read the flow of the game. The decision to call the end around WR pass was so bad. And I'm not just judging the result. They were moving the ball. That wasn't the problem. Their issue was turnovers. Continuing to rip off big runs with Gibbs was the move there. So yeah I'm gonna take a wait and see approach on Johnson.

Terrible decision by Johnson. The bears dont have a good o line and they dont draft that position well. There is a report that Johnson was putting together a staff weeks ago and Dennis Allen has been hired as his DC so if thats true did the Lions know for sure he was leaving? Did this have anything to do with his uncharacteristic bad play calling in the playoff loss? was he showing off for the new boss in Chicago instead of trying to win a playoff game? Not going to lie , that 3thrd and 1 drop back pass when Gibbs was eating the commanders up looks awful suspect right now. If the lions score on that drive they go up 14 - 3. He could ve won a Superbowl with Detroit down the line and increased his value even more , now he will just be fired in two years.

Detroit should have been in the Super Bowl last year and then with all the Defensive injuries it was very tough for Detroit. Think Ben Johnson probably made the best choice given that he had a quality QB in place versus other jobs like the Raiders, Saints, etc.
