@@eswrg Hence the word MOST 49ers fans. Not ALL 49ers fans. I've been cheering Brandon Aiyuk on since the beginning. But if it turns out to be accurate that the 49ers have offered BA fair and reasonable compensation and he refuses it because he wants to be paid like Justin Jefferson then the 49ers SHOULD fine BA for not fulfilling his contractual obligation. Aiyuk is STILL UNDER CONTRACT and he has a legal obligation to fulfill it. Period. End of the story. If BA doesn't FINE HIM. If he doesn't play his minimum 6 games then this year starts all over again, next year. If he does play his 6 game minimum and refuses to come to an agreement then TAG him next year.

1) Get Trent SIGNED. 2) Tell BA that he has 3 choices: a) Sit out and get fined into oblivion; b) Play on 5th year option with any fines and missed game checks being simply gone. c) Sign the offered extension as currently offered with no changes (but reduced by fines imposed, including prorated additional reductions for game checks missed at the new salary level) 3) Go win Super Bowl.

65 yrs old and lifetime 9er fan. Time to play hardball. Fine BA. Take the deal off the table. And I say that LOVING BA's play! But there comes a time where you have to grow up. Be honorable to the contract that has your signature on it. 49ers gave BA every opportunity to improve his deal of fly. And he took neither. Now it's time to be a big boy instead of whining. TW, best DE in the game, and the team needs him to protect Purdy. But guess what TW, it's too late! You're under contract, making a shit-ton of money too. Go get that ring with the 9ers, or retire and get paid nothing. The 49ers have done TONS to field and keep the best players. There's never been a doubt about it. TEAM MATES have sacrificed and adjusted contracts NOT to their benefit, too make room for other key players to be a Super Bowl competitor. Enough of the selfish b.s. BA and TW.

The fines would mean nothing to me, if I were in Aiyuk's position. He's made millions in his short career, and a lot is on the line. What's disappointing is the seeming lack of concern for the team, but this seems to be the way of the world. Look at the Blake Snell debacle. If he had signed to give himself the needed time to prepare for the season, the Giants, as flawed as they are, might be in the running for a wild card. The fans are not a factor, though.

I agree there can be frustration on the team's side if Aiyuk doesn't meet them halfway, but I think there's equally valid frustration from Aiyuk if the team isn't meeting him halfway, and there's clearly been some of that too. If Aiyuk was "only about the money," he'd already be in New England by now, so let's at least put that argument to bed. Honestly, I think he's been relatively clear about what he does want: he wants to stay with the Niners, but at a salary that's at least reasonably close to his value. Obviously getting everyone to agree on what "reasonably close to his value" actually means is the contentious part. I'm as frustrated with the Aiyuk saga as anyone, but I really think it's disingenuous to dump all the blame and hate on him and ignore where the Niners have also clearly screwed up. I'm not defending what Aiyuk's been up to on social media (though it's far from the worst we've ever seen), but I am going to point out the other side that no one seems to acknowledge. Both sides were (by both sides' later acknowledgements) "close" to a deal back in April/May, so Aiyuk *was* genuinely willing to make a deal then, and was not simply going through the motions waiting for other contracts to happen. The Niners had the chance to get the deal done then, but they decided to play hardball to try and push Aiyuk lower instead, and then the other contracts started raising the market. The Niners then just left their previous offer on the table and effectively walked away from negotiations - that's the distinct opposite of "meeting someone halfway" - and didn't even start talking again until after *Aiyuk* requested that meeting in late June. Even then, the Niners didn't really move until upping their offer to that $26 million APY a few weeks later, which by that time was well below what the market had moved to. Serious negotiations didn't get started again until after the first wave of trade offers a couple of weeks ago. But even there, the Niners dithered at the last hurdle instead of completing the deal that they were apparently only "minor details" away from...and now they've been beaten to the punch again by the Cowboys of all teams (who were notoriously slow to get their negotiations going). I hope that doesn't blow up the deal Aiyuk and the Niners were close to, but it might. The repeated pattern here is that every time the Niners try to play hardball, the process drags on and the price just goes up, well beyond what it would have cost to just up the offer a little bit and get the deal done *right then.* If the Niners are trying to use the Aiyuk situation to prove their negotiating chops, that ship has long since sailed. They need to just accept their screwup and stop doubling down on the strategy that's gotten everyone to this messy of a point. I think the smartest move for both sides now is to essentially ignore the Lamb deal, and just finish hammering out what they were working on last week. And yes, I do think Aiyuk needs to get his butt out there on the practice field as well, for everyone's benefit.

BA needs to be fined the maximum amount allowable. He has now crossed the line from pushing the limits of personal greed to now hurting the prospects of his teammates and fans. He is and has at all times been under contract. Contracts are there for a reason and not just a continuous basis for negotiation.

If Aiyuk held out for the whole season, his 5th year option would essentially restart next season because this season wouldn't count as an accrued year towards free agency right? According to the most recent CBA?
@SteveCook1-kf2bx
@SteveCook1-kf2bx 2 ай бұрын
I believe he has to have 6 games for the accrued year to become a Free agent. If he holds out the whole year you are correct he would not be a free agent next year. The whole thing would start over.

I get Trent Williams, he is at the end of his career and wants to maximize his earnings. But when Nick Bosa did last year, it hurt him and the team. Bosa was staying in shape, but it was clear when he came back he was way behind. The league already told Aiyuk what they thought of him, and he is still pushing things past that interest.

Best thing we can do: Trade Aiyuk to a team for a solid starting left tackle. That way we can get rid of both of these greedy holdouts at the same time. we really dont need another WR. we just spent a 1st round pick on a WR, lets use him! Aiyuk is not necessary on this roster. Deebo, Kittle, Jennings, CMC, Pearsall should wind up being good... we have PLENTY of offensive weapons. aiyuk is not necesary. Williams is, but we are screwed with that. his holdout for guaranteed money is just so he can retire. trent williams is trying to scam the 49ers and they know it. so trent williams is likely finished with the 49ers.

I think the fundamental problem is BA knows what he wants - but doesn't know what's most important to him. BA wants top money and to play with the 49ers, or another top level team. However, he doesn't know which of these he wants more. If he did, this situation would already be sorted.

Can they send him home as detrimental to the team at this point. Either practice or stay home and take the files. He can't have it both ways. I said at draft time they should have tried harder to tread him. He is a worse diva the TO was. I think they can get a reasonable WR and improve the D at the same time with the money saved. I like the Stealers deal.

As time passes and BA remains absent, one wonders how this situation arose. Regarding Trent W., it appears he may continue his absence. Could the reasons be financial, the pursuit of a Super Bowl ring (unlikely if he remains out), or a desire to remain with the Niners indefinitely? Sidenote, both of these players are top notch, yet, the game of 'give me the money' phrase that shows our beloved sport has officially been cancelled.

I think there are only 2 or 3 other teams that Aiyuk would be as successful as he is with the Niners. His big numbers came after Brock Purdy became the starter. He Knows that and is trying to hold the Niners hostage knowing their other weapons allow him to play most of the season not being double teamed. On another team he may face it a whole lot more!

It would be better for the team if he didn't stay with the 49ers. It takes all the players working together to win. No team is one man team. Even as great as Montana was. He needed rest of his team make the 49ers a great team. BA thinks he can win the games by himself. U can't have that devision with the team.

Aiyuk is a good receiver and I hope the 49ers can work out a trade, but I honestly believe he’s overrated in many aspects. I don’t believe he’s even worth the $28 million a year the 49ers are currently offering him, but they are under so much pressure to win now they are really going out on a limb on a bunch of contracts. Yes Aiyuk has impressive stats, but do you seriously believe if he didn’t have Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, or Christian McCaffrey as tier 1 receiving talent on the field at the same time he’d be as productive? Kansas City has 1 tier 1 receiver in Kelce, the lions have 2 tier 1 receivers, I don’t know if Green Bay has any tier 1 level receivers, maybe Aaron Jones out of the backfield would be tier 1 from for his position but I think they really have like 3 tier 2 and tier 1 guys, but the 49ers have 4 tier 1 guys. I think there’s a few teams like Miami and Philly that might have 3 tier 1 guys but I think the 49ers are the only team with 4 legit tier 1 options. The point is how much does that pad his numbers. If he was on another team with an average QB and he was the only elite option what does he look like? I think we’ve seen hints of it when Deebo has been out or even in Cleveland when Devon and McCaffrey left the game and it was pretty shaky. I think if Sam Darnold was the QB, Aiyuk was the 1, Jennings was the 2, Elijah Mitchell the RB, and Braden will was the TE, Brandon Aiyuk would probably be a 80 catch, 1,000 yard, 10 TD kind of guy. A solid receiver, but not a $30 million receiver. He’s had 2 bad year, 1 good year, and 1 really good year. In my opinion he still has something to prove. The fact that he was in the dog house for two years with Shanahan and now this is happening it raises a lot of red flags for his character down the road. To be quite honest I would prefer the 49ers to spend that money on an elite Right Tackle that could solidify the O-line now and could be groomed to replace Trent Williams in the future.
@IanRobinson2yt
@IanRobinson2yt 2 ай бұрын
TW is a tough one, he is a major binding piece for our O'line but he is also too old for a new contract longer than 1-2 years max. We need him this year and we all know this year is probably the final chance for this group. I would give him a one year offer at what he wants salary wise but that's it. BA let him rot and fine him into oblivion, he makes us a better team but we need to put a stop to this sitting out childish behaviour from folks who already have a contract. We have a number of players on team friendly deals because they want to win, if your on ten million a year you don't need more money - learn to live without all your excess. A lot of these guys are on way more often than ten million, let's get real here.
