Coach Michael Dwayne Vick is a former NFL quarterback who played for 13 seasons and retired in 2017 at the age of 36. Coach Vick played his college career at Virginia Tech from 1998-2000, earning first-team All-American honors in 1999. Vick was then drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons, where he became one of the top young stars in the sport. Known for his ability to make impressive plays on the ground and through the air, Coach Vick holds the NFL record for quarterback rushing yards. He was also the first quarterback in the league to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season. Some have compared Coach Vick to football's Michael Jordan, calling him "Jesus on the gridiron" Coach Vick ventured into coaching in the summer of 2017, when he joined the Kansas City Chiefs and his former Eagles head coach, Andy Reid, as a coaching intern. He joined the NFL on FOX as an analyst after training camp concluded that year. In April 2018, a coach Vick was hired as offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Legends of the Alliance of American Football. This will probably be more like TSU than JSU, mostly because neither of these schools are JSU. Also, neither of them has as many friends in the media or sports business world as Prime. Prime was going to have 30K+ at games even if the first year was a struggle, also things lined up perfectly that first year. Prime had Classics in Miami and Memphis to start the season plus JSU's first home game against an in-state school. It was like a "whoa" moment for people just getting introduced to HBCU football. Coming out of Covid, George Floyd, and some of the added attention on HBCUs; JSU fans and alumni were really starting to get active on social media leading up to Prime being hired. Prime was one of the first people to hop on the transfer portal. He had so much more going for him from an optics and storyline perspective going into 2021 than Vick does going to 2025, plus he's a much more vocal and media-focused person than Eddie or Vick. Is this enough to make NSU people start filling the stadium up and caring more about football if they're not good right out of the gate? They're still top 15 in FCS attendance, so this should be some motivation for them. They were just in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge. It would be a bigger deal if they were in it in 25 rather than 24 From a football standpoint, Vick might have relatively quick success. I wouldn't bet money on him winning the MEAC, but the MEAC is somewhat open. There were a lot of expectations for NSU going into 2024, and there were probably a couple of games they could have won. So, maybe they have talent, and Odums just wasn't the best fit as coach. One team in the MEAC loses a game they're not expected to lose, and the whole direction of the conference is changed in one day. They only have 6 teams. The MEAC has had a different team in the Celebration Bowl each of the last 3 years. Plus, he has name recognition, and he's from the state. He might be able to bring in enough recruits to get them over the hump. He just can't make a mistake in picking his staff. The MEAC has a few good coaching staves. He knows enough people to get advice from to not make the mistakes of many first time HCs. As for Keyshawn, we already know what he's going to do. As soon as Vick win 4 games he's going to be pushing for him to get the job at V-Tech or West VA
