Wealth favors the brave. Kudos to Coach V for taking the same chance that Bob Stoops took on him.

Careful with analysis guys - a scenario is definitely possible and workable where Ben Arbuckle brings QB John Mateer with him to let there be an open competition between all of the QBs - which is good for everyone. You guys are forgetting that Lincoln Riley had both Jalen Hurts and Spencer Rattler, and then Rattler and Caleb Williams on the same rosters - with CW coming in knowing that Rattler was QB1. You guys are also forgetting that when Baker Mayfield walked on at OU (to make CFB history) in 2014 Trevor Knight was a rising star having just beat Alabama and Derrick Henry in the Sugar Bowl. Baker had to sit out a year (transfer) but the great and wise Bob Stoops opened the competition for the 2015 season and Mayfield beat out Knight head to head (the rest, as they say, is history). Additionally, look at Texas right now: Arch Manning is quietly biding his time behind Quentin Ewers. It CAN work to have 2, or even 3, high-end QBs on the roster. In fact, if OU would have played their cards correctly, an intervention probably could have been made to keep Rattler when LR announced that he was leaving.

@@zacharykeller2998 There are ways to prevent injuries with strength and conditioning, especially soft tissue injuries. Then they should also look at the rehabilitation that was done because the goal should be to get them healthy and back on the field. Something is amiss with them experiencing so many injuries and players never playing the rest of the year.
@zacharykeller29985 сағат бұрын
@slundgr Yeah, but strength and conditioning won't help with breaking your shine (Kendel Dolby vs Tennessee) Torn Quads and Torn Acl's are going to happen no matter how big or strong a guy is and no matter how much strength and conditioning they do. And some players get knee injuries or foot injuries which can come back even with proper rehabilitation like Farooq. Things happen. Strength and conditioning isn't the end all be all to preventing injuries. Shit happens sometimes. And unfortunately that's what happened to teams like OU and Kentucky this year.

Considering the state of our O-line maybe the air raid is a good choice. I would have preferred option football, but I'm willing to give the guy a chance

Think you guys are underestimating the Hawkins part of this, why would he stay when someone's being brought in to start? Bringing Mateer in you could lose both JA and Hawkins. I hear all the numbers, but really how much is that gonna transfer to the SEC?? He's gonna account for 45 TDs in the SEC....nah.

So a head coaching career has come down to the wire heading into next season. It’s a do or go situation at best. I just don’t know about this hire at all. Seems like a roll of the dice. Sounds to me like the first choice had too much baggage to claim. Don’t know about the other choices. I do like Coach Venables. Wasn’t all in on hiring him when we did but here we are. Lots of shifting around in the portal coaches leaving for greener pastures. Players are the key. Who stays who goes. Lots of talk about Meteer. Hopefully we don’t face another injury prone season next year.
