@Stable_Genius HUGE difference. An offensive lineman understands protection schemes, communication with the rest of the line and understands defensive fronts. These are all things a QB needs to know. If Seth was going to be a top tier OC he would have become that long before now. Promoting him over going out to get a real OC is just a form of nepotism. Demarco is another one. Great Oklahoma back, one of the best. But as a coach? His backs still don't know plays, they can't break first contact, not good at blocking, even see Sawchuck and Barnes both run up the back of tackles still in their third year.

Play calling changed some, but some of thats coach speak. Tennessee threw the ball 11 times in the first half and 10 times in the 2nd half. They’re a run first offense. UT offense scored 17 in the first half, 6 in the 2nd half. That 11 point difference had much more to do with 5 first half turnovers (counting the turnover on downs at midfield and the safety). 5 turnovers and the best field position Tennessee could have ever wanted. The OU defense couldn’t catch its breath the first half with that 1-and-out offense.

@@phillips3994 I've watched Heupel's offense now closely for 3.25 years and he has never just ran the ball up the middle 3 straight plays drive after drive. They clearly changed the offense to try to burn off as much clock as possible each series without risking a turnover and let the defense win. They most certainly took their foot off the gas. Anyone saying different just wants to think this game was closer than it was. If this was a one score game entering the 3rd quarter, you see completely different play calling in the 2nd half.

@@tylerhoffman2271 like I said, there were some changes, but some of that is what a coach just says. And yes, football 101 says you try to burn clock and avoid the high risk-high reward plays when you have a lead later in the game. That’s literally what I’ve already said. Tennessee only had 1 big play in the first half, otherwise they only scored when the OU offense gave them a short field (which they vastly avoided in the 2nd half). Go back and look at the average field position in the first half versus the second half and tell me that it wasn’t a factor to them scoring in the first half and not the second half.

Oklahoma played a good game. As a Tennessee fan, I'm not accustomed to bragging, that said, I'm going to say- Tennessee has accumulated a collection of players that can flat out 'get it'. That said, Oklahoma has some great talent as well. No team will have much success running the ball against the Vols this year due to the number of talented down linemen wearing orange. Your team and fans showed a lot of class Saturday night. Welcome to the SEC, we are proud to have you as a member.
@scotttuttle3513
@scotttuttle3513 Ай бұрын
Oh, another thing. You can't play just 5 OLs for an entire game. You have to have 8 or 9 guys that you trust and sub in. The Vols played without their top two OTs for most of the game. Their back ups were good enough to get the job done.... and we don't really think UT is good enough there yet. The biggest difference between the Big 12 that you used to play in and the SEC is that every team legitimately has the talent to beat you in any given week. Two thirds can beat you straight up- see UK vs UGA and Vandy vs Mizzou. OU is going to need more depth than they're used to having... and play them. UT played 3 deep on the DL. Whereas you usually talk about the DL being worn out by an OL... UT's fresh DLs gave OU fits.

It was really a tale of two halves. The second half Sooners offense looked better than OU has looked in a long time. The defense was actually the best on the field because of what it was able to do against the number one offense in the country. Tennessee’s offense is mortal. Hawkins showed that even with O line woes, OU can still move the ball against a good Tennessee defense with the right guy at QB.

OU has gone from having some of the best QBs in college football history with incredible offenses and horrific defenses to now being completely the other way around. That's arguably the worst offensive OU football performance I've ever seen dating back to the early 80s and it's not only the QB but the playcalling. Hawkins gives us some hope because he showed some promise and remember we also have Casey Thompson who started for TX and Nebraska. This season isn't over yet.
