Hi Jeff. U r the best! So my question is - how to breath on your strokes ?
@Whisper5554 жыл бұрын
Jeff Lots of coaches and KZbinr's talk about not holding the racquet too tight. None that I have seen (I have not seen every KZbin video or talked to every tennis coach that lived) has ever discussed the 60 million years of evolution working against the player if they hold the grip of the racquet in a particular manner. Once the palm and fingers grasp something a certain way, they are genetically programmed to hold on tight or DIE, which is the exact opposite of what we want when we teach people how tight they should hold onto the grip when they swing a racquet. I whole heartedly agree that lag and snap is not a concept that should be forced, as it should be a natural consequence of good biomechanics. BTW, I think you demonstrate hip and shoulders turn that is 10x more than the recreational tennis players you are trying to reach. It is probably also not hurt by the fact that you are ready to swing forward well BEFORE the ball bounce. Would still love to see a better setup of the front leg and foot so its easier to absorb the redistribution of weight from back to front on the swing. Finally, yes, people need to keep their heads still, which I see as a 2 part process of PHYSICAL (posture & balance with the corresponding co-ordination and strength to maintain them) and MENTAL (do I have intent & commitment to my swing outcome and do I have trust and confidence in my swing outcome or do I have to check to see what happened?) Yeah, I was only going to write about the grip thing Sorry

So so so correct!!! Lag & Snap is a driven movement not a driver movement. In other words it is caused or results from other actions taken. In this case much of which is relaxation, the lack of tension.

Wow this is so simple and fundamental. Fantastic advice. Do less and let the body work almost intuitively. I saw almost because I think the very new player will focus only on the arm. With a little focus on shifting the weight it’s almost like the swing happens by itself, given the proper preparation, RELAXED, which you mention, but don’t over emphasize. Love it, Jeff. Very helpful.

Thank you Jeff for the advice. My old forehand with the eastern grip was reasonably consistent, but got worst since I've switched to the semi-western grip with the lag and snip (kinetic chain method) which tents to mishit a lot more just like you have mentioned due to too much body movement. Even some of my tennis friends told me to stay down during my shots and yet bad habits are hard to break.

You're welcome. Changing bad habits do take time, yet it's possible with the right mindset and tools (Tennis tips - drills).

This is a perfect way to hit a forehand. What should I do with my right foot after hitting a forehand? I am righthanded. You mentioned once how Moya defeated you in Memphis using his right foot to complete his forehand.

Hi Jeff, great work as always. Would you say on the two handed backhand, the hips fire then then the shoulders come around and therefore creating a pseudo lag and snap on the backhand?

Good video. Actually, even for advance player Nadal's motion is maybe not the best to follow as he has a unique upwards motion (finishing with his signature buggy whip forehand) in which the violent hip motion fits perfectly. However, when Nadal hits in a close or neutral position he only accelerates the arm very straight.

I think on the forehand, the stroke is a compression of the body, where the arms tend to meet upon completion, whereas the 1HB is an expansion of the body, where arms and shoulders fly away from each other upon completion.

Interesting point. Thank you for watching!

I observed the things you said about firing the hips forcefully. My head moves, so I keep misjudging and mistiming the ball. I feel like even Nadal does not fire his hips forcefully, but rather due to the strength he has built in his hips and legs, he can move at such speeds while being relaxed. In videos where he is 14 or 15, he does not do any of that, because he wasn't that strong.
@TennisEvolution4 жыл бұрын

@TennisEvolution4 жыл бұрын
Exactly
@JuanPabloSecundo4 жыл бұрын
Mannarino is not your typical forehand role model, he plays with an extremely low tension, thats why the ball flies of his strings without really swinging, so he really is unusual, but the relaxation is there that's true

It's just like any other tennis stroke (forehand, backhand, serve, net play) you cannot just focus on one aspect like pronation in serves or the lag or snap in a forehand. In tennis there's a lot of fluid dynamics and if you hit your strokes right, all actions will happen. To overfocus on some of those sub-actions is to degrade the qualify of your shot. The best serve video I saw was a more scientific breakdown of Andy Roddick's serve and compare that to forehand is similar (in approach).

One more thing that helps timing issues with hip rotation is trying to 'watch - focus' on the contact point, this way you prevent your body from turning too soon.

Maybe you want to grip and swing loose, even if you mis-time the stroke at first, so that your body will adapt to a new timing for the loose stroke.

The lag and snap is what windshield wiper was in 2008. KZbin teachers need something new to attract viewers. All os these "secrets" come natural without thinking about it. There is a video of Verdasco, he was abou 3 years old with a wooden racquet and he was doing lags, snaps, rotation and windshield wipers.
@TennisEvolution4 жыл бұрын
Exactly!
@jorgefelix27064 жыл бұрын
The lag is a result of the hip rotation movement and a proper relaxed arm... Is not a movement that you should produce... Is due the inertia!
