How accurate is this test after 10 days of exposure
@Biolytical9 ай бұрын
Hello - thanks for your patience. To help explain how HIV testing works first. If infected with HIV, generally the body will produce antibodies anywhere between 3 and 12 weeks after infection (about 97% of people). This is called the serological window period. This can happen with or without symptoms as not everyone who contracts HIV will develop an acute infection with symptoms. Some individuals may produce antibodies 21-22 days (approximately 3 weeks) after infection and thus may test positive (if infected) with an antibody test, but this is dependent on the person and can take up to 3 months to produce sufficient antibodies (IgG or IgM) to generate a positive result. About 97% of people will develop detectable antibodies during this window period. It is recommended to wait at least 21 days (or 3 weeks) to test for the first time. While some antibody tests can detect HIV antibodies within 21 days (such as the INSTI® test), we do recommend testing again at 3 months as each individual may develop antibodies at different times.

@@Biolytical window period of hiv tridot test?? When person should go for hiv tridot after last exposure??
@Biolytical Жыл бұрын
@@rajkumar-raj. Hello. Thank you for your message. We cannot provide information about the tridot test as it is a different test than the INSTI HIV-1/2 Antibody Test. I recommend reaching out to tridot specifically relating their test. I can however, provide you with some information regarding the HIV Testing window. If infected with HIV, generally the body will produce antibodies anywhere between 3 and 12 weeks after infection (about 97% of people). This is called the serological window period. This can happen with or without symptoms as not everyone who contracts HIV will develop an acute infection with symptoms. Is 99 days post exposure negative test considered conclusive for INSTI Test?
@Biolytical2 жыл бұрын
Hello Patrick, thank you for your patience. To answer your question on the INSTI HIV screening test and timing,. After exposure to HIV, it can take the average person anywhere from 3 to 12 weeks (21-84 days) to develop enough antibodies for a screening test to detect them. This is called the serological window period. Some individuals may produce antibodies 21-22 days (approximately 3 weeks) after infection, and thus may test positive (if infected) with an antibody test, but this is dependent on the person and can take up to 3 months to produce sufficient antibodies (IgG or IgM) to generate a positive result. About 97% of people will develop detectable antibodies during this window period. As you are past this window, there would be no need to repeat this test unless you have been at risk or exposed to HIV again. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out, we are always happy to help.

@@Biolytical thank you for response. You said 97 per cent wilo develop detectable antibodies by 3 months. Do you know why 3 per cent might be delayed? How do I know I am not in 3 per cent?
@Biolytical2 жыл бұрын
@@patrickdoherty6211 Hi Patrick. Thanks for writing back. It is quite rare that someone would not show positive if they had the virus, from what I have researched, it could be due to a rare immune response. I will ask our science team to see if we have more information on this and get back to you early next week with an answer either way.

@@patrickdoherty6211 Hi Patrick - thanks for your patience. In trying to find the answer to why 3% of people may not test for HIV - generally, this is because a false negative is most likely to occur outside the testing window (before 3 months). We recommend that if testing after 21 days but before 90 days, the individual tests again at 3 months. Most HIV tests, including the INSTI® test have over 99% accuracy (which is incredibly high). After 3 months, it is extremely rare that there would be a false negative. Additionally, there is a good source called the Body (HIV/AIDS resource) that speaks to whether PEP or PrEP (medications that prevent HIV infection - pre and post exposure) may influence the HIV tests results where results may take longer to show positive, though it is unlikely. The link is: www.thebody.com/article/can-pep-prep-delay-hiv-antibody-test-window if you want to read more. However, I recommend speaking to a doctor for a more individualized conversation relating to your risk level or exposure. Whereas rapid tests are considered screening tests for HIV (though highly accurate), the doctor can order confirmatory testing from a lab to verify the result. Hope that helps provide more information! Again, thanks for messaging us and stay safe!

Do elite controllers test positive on the 3rd generation rapid antibody test or do they get false negative?
@Biolytical3 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question! Elite controllers can be a challenge for screening tests due to the reduced level of antibodies in the blood which may give a false negative result. Since elite controllers make up a very small percentage of the general population, these are rare occurrences.

@janedoe75165 жыл бұрын
You should re-test if you haven't already :) These tests are not accurate if the exposure was less than or equal to 4 weeks ago. However, the negative result would mean that prior to this last exposure, likely you had not become infected with HIV. You should test again after 3 months of any potential exposure to ensure the most accurate result, but many tests are pretty accurate after 4 weeks.
