Thank you brother! I like the cat whiskers as well as limb saver brand string silencers. Ive put vibration absorbing rubber stickers just under the string inside of liimbs, top and bottom. Reduced tone vibration sound. Didn't realize until your shared experence that they can be shoved up tight to the limb. Thats basically a vibration shock guard on your string, not allowing the slap to occur. Solid, gonna try it 💯.

Very informative, thanks for the insight. Perhaps you could do a video on your procedure for tying up and installing cat whisker silencers. Seems to be a variety of recommendations on You Tube but I find them tricky to get properly attached and splayed.

Hey Jeff, we know about the bow you are using this year, what about the arrow/broadhead combo? 🤔
@Kurtdog63
@Kurtdog63 5 ай бұрын
When a bow string is released, there are two nodes, one above and one below the center of the string, where the string vibrates THE LEAST. Amazingly for years, most archers have tied string silencers at, or close to those nodes where the string vibrates the least, and as a result, the silencers have... the least effect. The largest amount of string vibration is in the center of the string, but because you are drawing the string in the center, you don't want the silencers under your fingers, and you don't want them where they will strike you bow arm. You also don't want them above your nocking point in front of your face. This string silencer placement close to the bow tips, may be having a greater effect on the string vibration at the string loops, thus reducing the limb vibration that also amplifies noise.

I’ve been #tradonly for over 45 yrs. I also go to great lengths to get that ‘thump’ on release. One thing I read or heard is using the ‘heterodyne principle in string silencer position. Here follows an explanation. STRING SILENCER THEORY Something you might try & I use is taking advantage of the heterodyne principal of canceling resonate frequencies. In short, the heterodyne principal states that when two frequencies are mixed they produce both even and odd additional frequencies. This is how radios are able to transmit or receive a wide spectrum of frequencies without having a separate resonate circuit for each frequency. A naked bow string will sing like a plucked guitar string SO if you tie one silencer 1/3 the distance from one end of the bow string and the other silencer 1/4 the distance from the opposite end that combination will cancel out both even & odd resonate frequencies. That will make the string go thump instead of twang. Measure the distances with bow strung from where the string touches limb. This works with longbows, recurves & compound contraptions too. Aside from noise canceling it also allows the use of silencers with less bulk and mass giving you a little extra arrow speed. I use those small silicon string silencers from 3 Rivers Archery...string leeches or wishbones or any of the others work just a well.

Great observation Jeff. I take the soft part of velcro thay come pretty close too limb width , stick it on groove section , restring bow, string fits perfectly down groove and pushes in and man does that ever muffle the bow. Now im thinking also try your thought, along with that, could be double quite. The other thing i do , i keep velcro a little longer on upper limb so when i hang the bow on limb or bow holder its not marring up my finish. Awesome day these bows will be like a whisper 😁

Great info Jeff. I'm just in the process of setting up a bow and will definitly be trying this. Have you tried it without the velcro on the limbs to see if the velcro makes a difference or is the velcro more to reduce the string slapping the bow rather than vibration of the string and limbs?

Do you recommend using small zip ties to put on rubber cat whiskers or using a piece of serving thread? I'd think the zip tie might wear out and break at some point. My ILF bow is still a challenge to make quiet. Thanks for another great video and helping us put meat in the freezer!
